Holiday Inn Golden Gateway - San Francisco

sErvice was ok, rooms inside also ok but we heard the elevator whole night. at sometime we thought we are in amsterdam at a coffee shop. fitness was poor. and 40 Bucks pe Night for parking is a rip off.

The hotel is on the edge of the Tenderloin, which is still a somewhat seedy area of SF. However, I like that it is right on 101/Van Ness and easy to get around the city from the hotel. Parking is $41/day after tax - add that to hotel cost if you will have a car. I didn't expect much in terms of room size or comfort and wasn't disappointed. I reserved a room with a view, figuring we would be able to see downtown or the Bay. Wrong! We could see the Twin Peaks if it hadn't been foggy and the Bay if we leaned close to the window. Given that and since my partner wasn't comfortable on an upper floor in earthquake territory, I wouldn't request a room with a view on a future visit. I would book this hotel again if the price is lower than comparable properties.

Had a great time at this hotel everyone was wonderful we had a great view. Parking costs way too much.

At first I thought I was getting a deal. The hotel cost for where it was located was great. Little did I know that upon arriving to the hotel the parking would be outrageous; it was half the cost of the room per night! At first I chalked it up to just being in downtown San Francisco, but when you drive around and notice every other hotel offering parking at more than half the price you begin to get angry. To make matters worse, there was no microwave, the TV reception was horrible, and the gift shop did not accept credit cards. Overall, I would have to say that I was greatly disappointed and will never stay in this hotel again. Especially when you can stay for cheaper across the bay, or for a little bit extra (offset by the cheaper parking) you can stay closer to the Wharf.

THE PAYMENT FOR THE GARAGE WAS TOO MUCH!

If you're looking for a decent place to sleep and shower, this hotel will serve that purpose. If you're looking for a luxury room to relax in, this is not your hotel. I was in town visiting a friend and wasn't planning on spending much time in the hotel so it was perfect for my needs. The room was a nice size and clean. I didn't have a great view, but didn't really expect one based on the room I reserved. There are some cool restaurants and bars a block away on Polk. Worth walking around. If you're into wine there is a wine bar called S.N.O.B around the corner that offers a great selection and live music. Overall, this is a decent hotel but I think I'd look elsewhere on my next stay.

Our room was not that clean, and our room was suppose to be non-smoking but the room from the pillow sheets to the bed sheet and the entire room smelled of smoke.There is a 30 minute walk to union square, and one hour walk to the Pier. the hotel was to expanse for the rate that I got it for. the parking is also 36 dollars in addition to the room.

All was good, there is some city noise, and the room was clean. There was a good selection of restaurants in the area. Cable car right next to hotel on California street and bus access to the Fisherman's Wharf. The breakfast was on the high side but less than than some other competitors. Good Coffee! The hosted lunches for our meetings was good. The food had flavor, whereas some other hotels served bland rubberized food.

We stayed here for the weekend, Wasnt to far from anything, The Trolly stops on California St next to the hotel for sites of the City, Change Trollys to the wharf down the road. The City Bus you can pick up down the street from California on Sacramento for a trip to the Golden Gate Bridge.Both of these you can buy tickets for a day pass in the gift store. The hotel was very clean the people were very friendly... I would recommend.

My Husband and my self visit San Fransisco a couple of times a month one at which we stay for the night , Hilton was our usual spot , due to late booking we stayed at the HOLIDAY INN , OH MY gosh we will surely stay there from now on ~ The staff is out standing , the beds were sooooooo comfy and the view beyond the money we paid ~The food is wonderful and the service to be rewarded ~ Thank you for making out 4th of July that much better ~

We parked our car and never needed it again. The cable car stops right next to the hotel and with a pass we were able to go everywhere we wanted to go without driving. We had a corner room and a beautiful view of the bay and the ocean. Very quiet and comfortable. We'll go there again and recommend it to others! Parking was $36 per day, but safe and convenient.

This hotel is easy to find, right off of 101 (Van Ness). The Cable Car stops a block away. The only thing expensive is the parking, $36 a night. But I think it's like that everywhere. Our room had a fabulous view!

40 PLUS DOLLARS TO PARK YOUR CAR AT THEIR HOTEL, BECAUSE OPTIONS ARE LIMITED THE GUEST HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO ACCEPT! OR WALK 5 MILES.

The hotel staff was outstanding. Comfort of the room perfect. Hotel bar was very nice and friendly. I recommend this hotel to all!

Not bad for the price. $41 for parking is a little absurd considering the hotel sits on top of their parking garage. You would think perhaps $10 to $20 for overnight parking would be more reasonable. TIP, unless you ABSOLUTELY need a car, catch a shuttle to the hotel ($17 from SFO) and use public transportation. other than that not bad considering most places cost $50- $75 more a night. Good views too.

Well my girlfriend and i stayed there for one night. Room was very clean with a great view. But are room was right next to the elevator. We were up all night long. The other issue was the parking. if you do not own a car or a small suv, you cannot park here. The small suv's barely fit in the parking structure. And to top it off they charge 36 bucks a day to park. I have a lifted truck so we had to find other parking. but if you willing to walk acouple blocks there is a parking structure on sacramento street. And they only charge 20 bucks for a day/overnight.

This hotel was in the perfect location,right at the end of the California Cable Car line, very convenient. The price was fabulous and the conceriege was very helpful. Would highly recommend this hotel for your San Francisco stay!

very clean.. near all attractions would stay there again. price was reasonable and staff was friendly, parking $32.00 a day.

This hotel is worth the cost unless you have a vehicle that you'd like to park. Nightly Self-Parking in the hotel garage is $36 plus tax. There are limitted other options for parking around the hotel. I'd suggest calling hotels in this area to ask about parking costs before booking online. The room was comfortable and the staff is friendly.

I guess everything is expensive in San Francisco anyway. I feel like the fee was a bit much but the room is really clean and comfortable.

I was there to take an examination for additional professional certifications and there were no problems, issues or complications to further stress me out. It was a wonderful getaway for my wife and I. The surrounding neighborhood was refreshing and it was nice getting away from Union Square for a bit. Because of the location, we were able to find bike shops and ride the famous SF bike trial for the first time! It is also 3 blocks away from 24 hour fitness if you have a membership. Stay there!

I usually enjoy my stay at most Holliday Inns. However, my recent stay at the Holiday Inn Golden Gateway fell far from what I am used to in a usually high quality hotel. First of all, access to the hotel is dismal to say the least. Lord forbid if you drive in from the north where you have to make a dangerous U-turn more that a block away just to get to the entrance. The check in was okay, but if you only carry debit/check cards (which operate similar to credit cards)?be aware! The hotel will draw on your account to cover expenses incurred, which can take up to a week for those funds to return. After check in, if you drove, be prepared to pay an extra rather expensive fee just to park inside the hotel's owned parking structure. Why would a hotel require a guest to pay for their parking? That's beyond me. Then, when you do eventually locate a place to park in the structure, the parking spaces are so small that if you drive anything short of a compact car, you are going to have a problem! The room I stayed in was neat, clean, and properly stocked with required amenities. I remembered how the photographs of the view out of the room window looked like from when I booked the room online. I was looking forward to the beautiful view. When I opened the curtains I was shocked! I could barely make out the city line through the almost half-inch of built up gunk attached to the outside of the window! Outside of these headaches, the room stay was decent. Be prepared to pay an arm and a leg for food if you decide to eat on site. Putting that aside, the hotel is close to many attractions and even within walking distance of some fine dining. All in all, I would probably not recommend this hotel as a good place to stay. Unless they work out some of these problems (at least give the hotel guests free parking), then my guesstimate is that future guests will also feel the same as I?this place looked better in the photographs!

This Hotel has small rooms for the price paid and the location is very inconvienent in relation to the Wharf, China Town and other San Francisco attractions. The rooms were TINY. Our room was right by the elevator and we could hear it all night long.

The hotel was very clean, however, upon arrival I was not offered Bellman service even though I had two bags. I wanted a cup of coffee (4:00 PM) but restaurant was closed. Went up to the room only to have to call about the coffee maker in the room. The only information in the room was a pad and pen and a breakfast room service card. Nothing to tell about the services available at the hotel. I called a couple of times trying to get information. I would have thought that they should be concerned that I didn't seem to know anything and ask me to read the Hotel Directory. Then I could have told them I had none. This way I just thought they didn't supply one to guests. They did have a magazine about San Francisco. When I checked out I took my own bags downstairs only to find out the did have Bellmen. Considering the price, the service did not come up to par.

I was quite pleasantly surprised by the entire experience and would definitely stay here again. Initially, I was not thrilled by the prospect of being assigned a room near the elevator, but figured what the heck. If there was an issue, I'd call the front desk. I'm glad that I did not make a fuss. It turned out the be the service elevator and I didn't hear it once during my entire stay. The room was clean, staff were friendly, and I was able to walk everywhere I needed to. Not exactly walking distance from the the underground (BART/Muni), but on a bus line. I loved the fact that I could crack the window and get some fresh air. The only downside was that the parking fee was ridiculous - $77 for 2 days AND the spaces were teeny, so it's a good thing that I had a rental (although it was only used to get to and from the airport and for one other run). My 2 cents -- if you aren't in a car, you can always Muni up to Van Ness or Civic Center and cab the rest of the way. If you are in a car, then you may want to seriously consider another place to stay.

Parking was a huge problem. Street parking ended up being the only option and it was very time consuming trying to find a spot that allowed sufficent time to park overnight. Not the most secure and or safe option but completely necessary to avoid the very expensive parking rate in the garage.

Very clean. Updated nicely, but not fancy. Perfect for a quick trip if you're looking for convenient, central hotel that has a view, clean, and has all the basics. The only setback was the main hotel restaurant isn't open for dinner during the weekdays, so we had to drive to a restaurant when we were tired. The hotel lounge offered good pub-style food, but we wanted something more. They do offer room service which we could have had. Polk Street is just around the corner, which is always good for a laugh or two.

Ett bra hotell med bra läge. Rekommenderas verkligen. Dock... deras frukosterbjudande skall man vara försiktig med. Här får man efteråt veta att man får betala extra om man ätit varm frukostmat. Kupongerna som de ger en är inte mer värda än att man lockar folk till deras mkt dyra frukostmatsal. Ät frukost på andra ställen. Deras souvenirshop är mkt bra och servicen fantastisk. Här får du reda på vad du behöver och de tar sig tid att checka att du verkligen förstår, De vill inte sälja utan bara checka av att du är nöjd. Fantastiskt bra service! Här bor jag nästa gång också!
