After staying on the other side of Athens before moving to Plaka, it was a welcome treat to be in hotel which was in a great location. The hotel itself is impressive with a beautiful roof swimming pool with a view of the Acropolis. The restaurant has a great view - although the hotel promotes it as a bar and restaurant but you can't go for just a drink. My only complaints were that the staff were a little surly - it was impossible to get an answer from reception when calling down - and the breakfast was terrible! It looked good and there's was lots of choice but it was over cooked. That said, I would recommend the location.

Perfect Plaka location. It has a lovely breakfast garden and the rooftop pool is perfect for cooling off after a hot day of sightseeing. The pool and its adjacent bar have stunning views of the Acropolis. While the hotel is really a five star facility, it is a solid four star hotel and a great value.

Stayed there in July 2009 and thought it was a great hotel: located in Plaka so very close to all the sites, rooftop pool with a Parthenon view is a nice touch. If you can, ask for a room on a high floor - you will get a view of either Parthenon or the Lykabettus hill.

This hotels is located in a good loation next to market places and the Acropolis and the new museum. All within walking distance to the above mentioned highlights. Hwever, the hotel itself is very old and run down. Rooms were small and its furnitures very old. I was surprised to see that his hotel had a five star rating. I thought the price of the hotel was quite high as well for what you get.. I never stayed at another hotel in Athens, so I dont have anything to compared to. I think there must be another hotel with similar price range in equally good locations bt with better rooms and amenitues. Views from the pool deck is spectacular, especailly at night ober looking lit Acropolis.

The condition and the location of the hotel are excellent. Staffs are supportive and courteous. Our room was in the 4th floor, initially a spacious one, but couldn't sleep because of the chair and table pulling noise from the dinning room above until early hours. On our request the room was changed but on this occasion it was a cramped triple bed room with old carpet floor. In the second occasion our night sleep was disturbed in the early hours by noisy, arguing neighbours. In both room beds are not at all comfortable, firm mattress and flat pillows. Pools, gym, steam/sauna rooms were good. All in all our nights were not relaxing or comfortable.

Bewertet von Daniel aus Austin am Jun 28, 2009
We stayed at the Electra Palace for 4 days during our recent visit to Athens. We reserved and prepaid for a 'triple' room (for me, my wife, and 12 yr. old son). The hotel is in very good condition and is very nicely-appointed. The 'triple' room, being a standard-size room with a double bed (actually two single beds pushed together)and a day bed/couch, was quite cramped, but comfortable. The rooftop pool area was a very nice place to relax, with excellent views of the Acropolis, especially at night when the entire hill is illuminated. The hotel's location in the Plaka district is quite convenient, with a great deal of tourist-oriented shopping and restaurants within a short walk. The only problem we experienced during our stay was with some of the hotel staff. Although we arrived with smiles on our faces and some basic knowledge of Greek language, the reception we got was ice-cold! We were assigned a room on the 4th floor, directly across from the elevators. When I mentioned that I would like a room in a quiet section, away from the elevators, the same receptionist gave us another room on the 2nd floor. That room turned out to be right next to another set of elevators! When I pointed out the problem to her again, she became noticeably agitated, assigned us another room (this time one room away from the elevators), and stated that this 'would be the last room they could offer us'. It seems that her displeasure in having to meet this basic request extended to the bellhops too, since their attitude was also quite sour. The attitudes and demeanor of many of the lounge and restaurant staff were similarly brusk and detached, which was quite perplexing since we are good tippers and were trying our hardest to be cordial. We did encounter some staff members who were polite and even cheery in a few cases, so I can't give them a blanket 'poor attitude' rating overall. However, for a hotel in this category, I would expect consistently positive, cheerful, customer-oriented behavi

This hotel was in the perfect location. It was in the center of things but a few streets over so it was very quiet. It was very very close to all the things we wanted to see, the location was perfect. The rooftop pool was fantastic. It has a perfect view the Acropolis and was all lit up at night. The room and service was very very nice. The room was a little pricey but well worth the money. The breakfast was wonderful as well. The staff provided recommendations for restaurants and called ahead for us. We really really enjoyed the stay and will definitely stay there again if we ever go back.

Good buffet breakfast but not 5 star. Indoor pool very small. Sntagma square nearby, highly recommend city sightseeing bus tour which allows on off at any stop 90 mins full tour, from there. 18 euros for 24 hours, really means 2 days, we got ours at 11.30 am and it lastest until 6pm next day. .

The location of the Electra Palace Hotel cannot be beat. In the midst of the Plaka district in downtown Athens -- it is within easy walking distance of shopping, tavernas, and several ancient ruins. The Plaka itself is very charming, with predominately well-maintained, neo-classical buildings on narrow streets. The hotel also has a spectacular view of the Athenian acropolis from the upper floors and the restaurant. I stayed for two days in early January. I arrived at 11 in the morning, was upgraded to a suite on the 7th floor, and was immediately checked into the room. The room was spacious by European standards and had a great bathroom. The balcony had a teriffic view of the acropolis. Both the room and the public areas were quiet, clean and well-maintained. My only complaint is the beds. They were very, very hard, even by European standards.

Hotel is in a great section of the city. Pretty central to Athens and many of the shops and sites. Lobby is impressive and really seems to be one of the better hotels in Athens. However, 5-star is a little bit of a stretch. By US standards, probably more of a 3.5-star. My experience can be summed up in two words: bed bugs. First night in I arrived late and tried to get some sleep. Luckily, I can't adjust to the time change and was awake enough to notice a minor swarm of little red bed bugs crawling around me on the bed. Very very very gross. Hotel was very good in helping me change rooms. But no comps and no apologies. I don't know if this is very common in Europe or not, but definitely NOT acceptable. I think this was a very big abberation, so will give the hotel the benefit of the doubt. Only other comment is that the rooms are uncomfortably warm. Very hard to get AC or air movement (I had two rooms so pretty sure this is not room specific). My 2 cents.

Best things about the hotel: view (we were on the 7th floor and balcony overlooked Plaka with unobstructed view of the Acropolis), breakfast, friendliness of the staff Worst things about the hotel: carpet looked worn and very dirty, uncomfortable mattress, and our room had a door that possibly connected to the next room (we could hear conversations/tv from the next room). I expected a room in better condition for the price we paid. But the location is pretty good. Easy walk (without luggage) to the metro station, plaka, and Acropolis. I would not stay there again unless the price was drastically reduced.

Excellent hotel, only real issue were the very hard beds. Rooms to front are better, rear rooms have other building aircon units, so need ear plugs. View from pool/terrace is superb. Breakfast is bountifull, but watch the evaporated milk with the tea. Location is 10 mins walk from Syntagma square, so can take tube from Airport. Everywhere ancient is in walking distance if reasonably fit. The Local area has lots of great eateries to choose from. The resturants on the square in Plaka, probably worth a miss. The dancers look so bored its amazing they are awake let alone the clients. The day trip with Chat tours to Mycenae & Epidaurus was excellent, but the lunch was simply inedible. 05/08. Hired car, stayed at the EPH for first night before driving up coast to The Peloponnese, which was very lovely.I digress; Driving through Athens. Not for the faint hearted, without a very good English translated map or satnav. The journey almost caused divorce! Roads, signs, traffic etc - ummmm! The hotel is in the center area but down several tiny one way side streets. It took a few attempts!Parking is an additional E12 a day?! Hotel is pleasant, friendly and helpful staff. Our room was fairly small for the 3 of us & a little dark but clean, aircon & nice. We had a view of Acropolis to right if you stretched your neck a bit. The best thing about this hotel is the roof top pool. It's small but has a fantastic view of the Acropolis.Food & drink at the bar area wasn't overly expensive & was very nice. There are lots of restaurants in the Plaka, a few mins walk away.Breakfast in the garden was very pleasant. Plenty to choose from. £215 we paid for 1 night we think is a little expensive. £176 I saw it at an hour earlier would have been nicer, naturally?! Price varies by the minute! Go to Acropolis early. It gets very hot and busy later. It's being refurbish for some time yet, so shrouded in scaffolding and cranes, which is a shame. Would I recommend the EPH? Yes, probably for a night or 2. Greece isn't as cheap as it once use to be. Poor £ v Euro doesn't help, so be mindful. Here endith the lesson. Good luck
