Das Hotel befindet sich im touristischen Zentrum San Franciscos direkt am bekannten Turntable der Cable Car Linie Powell and Market. Die Lage ist ideal, um die Stadt touristisch zu erkunden. Mein Zimmer befand sich so gesehen auf der Rückseite des Hotels, den Cable Cars abgewandt. Dennoch war das Gebimmel deutlich zu hören, störte mich jedoch überhaupt nicht. Das Hotel gehört zu der älteren Kategorie, das von mir bewohnte Zimmer auf der fünften Etage war jedoch schön eingerichtet, sauber, geräumig, und so fühlte ich mich rundum wohl. Das Personal war stets sehr freundlich und zu jeder Zeit äusserst hilfsbereit. Checkout war um 12Uhr, jedoch bot das Hotel den kostenfreien Service mein Gepäck auch nach Checkout für mehrere Stunden sicher aufzubewahren. Meines Erachtens eine sehr gute Möglichkeit für wenig Geld direkt Downtown unterzukommen.

Die Lage des Hotels ist hervorragend geeignet um SF kennzulernen: 2 Blocks vom Union Square (Shopping & Sehenswürdigkeiten) & direkt an einer Endstation des Cable Cars. Der Zimmerkomfort ist nicht überragend aber insgesamt angemessen.

The rooms were very clean and in above average condition and the staff were very friendly. We had a pleasant stay, but I did hear the tram bells rining occassionally even though we never had a room that faced out towards Powell Street, although it never woke us up at any point and we are both light sleepers. The room we had faced away from the street and was very quiet because of that location. No nice view but peace and quiet. There is a ceiling fan instead of an air conditioning unit which was more than adequate at keeping the room cool and we had a really hot 4 day stay (unusual waether fro San Francisco). In addition to goo clean rooms though is the amazing location. You can't really get a better location as you are in the heart of the shopping district near everything you need. If we were going back to San Francisco or were asked to recommend a hotel I would definately recommend the Powell.

During our 4 night stay at the Powell The phone does not work in anyway as to contact front desk, housekeeping...ect.. We were told there would be a mini fridge, I believe our room came with the invisible model. our coffee pot was most surely broken we quickly found out as the desk begun to suddenly flood. The window would not stay open and due to the abnormal heat was a bit of a problem. Not to mention the fan would turn right off even though no timer had been set.. Our T.V. could not seem to stay on but would randomly come on throughout the course of our stay. oh... and the Boiler! Who could forget two full days of no hot water making it a bit difficult to shave before morning meetings our get ready in general.

This hotel has a decent location steps away from the Powell station for BART and Muni and is right in front of the touristy end of the cable car line if you're into that. The Lobby and hallways of the look nicely remodeled, but the room we had is a different story. The room was hot when we got there with no thermostat and no AC unit. Looking out the window, there was one room with an AC unit that which buzzed loudly all night. The bathroom was large, but the shower curtain had mildew and the floor look like somebody used a bottle of whiteout to hand grout the tiles. The room with the bed looked much nicer but was small so the full sized bed took up most of the space. Surprisingly, there was an iron and ironing board in the closet. I would say MAYBE this was worth the dirt cheap rate we got but all-in-all I don't recommend this hotel and I won't be staying there again.

Quaint hotel in downtown San Francisco - right on Market street. Lots of people on the streets - especially tourists and street vendors. Hotel staff was friendly and helpful. It was clean and comfortable. This hotel isn't your typical Best Western or Hampton Inn...it's an older hotel that has squeaks in the floors and you can tell it's older but the rooms were quiet. Several drawbacks...cost was a little higher than others I priced in the downtown area, no restaurant on-site and doesn't offer a shuttle to the airport. Several parking garages were within a couple blocks but none at hotel. Hotel is very close to the Powell Street BART station...if you're adventurous...and take about 30 minutes to/from the San Francisco Int'l airport. I would stay there again.

Hotel is perfectly located for tourists looking for shopping, dining, and easy access to cable cars. Hotel style, condition, and location were shocking considering price we paid.

The hotel has a very good location, it's right in the middle of everything. The only issue I had was not the hotel's fault. We had a room facing Powell St. we had to keep the window open because it was to hot if we close it, but we can here all the noise of everything that was going on outside. If you are a late riser, you should request a room away from Powell St. the cable car kept ringing it's bell and the homeless people were yelling and you can hear the echo from the buildings. All in all, it was a great stay, the hotel staff was very friendly, room was very clean except for the carpet.

the powell is very well located next to BART, street car stop, buses and taxi stand. the room was a little small which i didnt mind but also had the worst bed i have ever slept in. my friend and i could not get any quaility sleep during the stay. if they could improve the beds i would stay there again.

The Powell Hotel is such a charming place to stay. It is clean, comfortable and conveniently located near all transit. The hotel staff were attentive and helpful. They were nice enough to put a mini fridge in the room. This is not a 5-star hotel, but the cleanliness, charm and comfort make up for it. The bathroom tile is a bit worn, but very clean. The rooms don't have AC. You don't really need it in San Fran. but when you open the windows to get a breeze, you certainly hear street traffic. This may be a problem if you are a light sleeper. You are in the center of the city, so expect that.

The hotel is right on the cable car line. Walk up a block and jump on, don't wait in line at the turnaround. The hotel was freshly painted and the room was nicer than the online view appears. Have fun, we did!

We switched rooms from the first 2 night we were there because of a couple reasons-the room we stayed in originally didn't look at all like the room posted on the pictures on this hotels.com website. Maybe we just got a room that was different from other rooms. We relocated because we could hear a dog barking down the hall! We mentioned it to the front desk and he said they were trying to contact the owner. After we moved to another room upstairs(after seriously debating cancelling the hotel and moving to another one), we could still hear the dog barking from one floor up!

The Powell Hotel is conveniently located with the cable car turn around, streetcar, buslines, and BART stops just outside the door. Some rooms can be small, but they are updated and fine for the price.

We paid a lower rate on Hotels.com for this hotel than what was offered on the hotel's website for 4th of July weekend. This was for a Standard room with a Queen bed. We had heard the rooms were small, which they are, but the location was good and the rooms were clean but we did not spend a lot of time in our room. It is not like your regular hotel. There is only one ice machine on one of the floors. I needed to use their WiFi for business one of the days and it worked for part of the time and then I could not get reconnected so we had to leave and go to the next hotel we were staying at so I could get internet access. So the Wifi was a bit inconsistent for me. The neighborhood is on the line of a not-so-good neighborhood and Powell Street where the trolley runs and there are a lot of people touring the area. We had no problems though. If you don't want to spend a fortune on a room, don't mind a smaller sized room, but want to stay downtown then this place was good for the money spent. It's not a 5 star hotel but we were not expecting one.

My boyfriend and I came here for a romantic getaway weekend over the 4th of July. It was a great location, a nice looking room, a lovely lobby, and at first, we were really happy with it -- especially considering the price we paid. But then I woke up the next morning with about 10 insect bites. When I told the man at the front desk, he muttered an "Oh, sorry" and said he'd change the sheets. We slept there again that night with the window closed, in case it had been insects from outside. I woke up with 5 more. Most of the bites produced vesicles on my skin and I had an acute allergic reaction to them. The next day, I had to stay home from work due to the bites. When we checked out, we told them about the bites, but again the man at the front desk had no sympathy. He only gave me a business card so I could speak to someone else. This would've been a great hotel if they could just keep it bug-free, and actually care about their guests.

In the center of everything, more than makes up for the smallish room

Room was small like most of the reviews said and no a/c but we didn't need it at all. The room and hotel was very clean and the minimal service that we needed was excellent. Price was a little high for the amount of space & amenities, but the location made up for the price. Cable car, Bart, Shopping Center located right outside the hotel. Would definitely stay there again.

Hotel was clean and fairly quiet. The location was good for me. It would have been better if a shuttle to the airport were avaiable.

The hotel is a great/safe place to stay after a long day of sightseeing. Like many SF hotels, the rooms are small and older, so i wouldn't want to hang out in the room all day, but you're in SF, why would you. :) UNFORTUNATELY.... The valet stole my girlfriend's ipod out of our glove box (honestly was probably just the one bad guy though), so be cautious and don't leave valuables in the car.

needs upgrade. excellent location. rates were a bit excessive some days. needs inroom frig and microwave.

The Powell is a beautiful old hotel. It's location is great.

If you like to sit in your room all day, the Powell may be a little small for you. Rooms are very clean and newly remodeled, but small. Located at the end of the cable car line 5 mins from moscone and plenty of shopping and eating right outside the front door.

The Powell Hotel was great. The staff was very friendly and check in was a breeze. You can definetely tell that it's an older hotel, but it was clean and very convient.

there is no parking wait in front of hotel . until someone comes out takes your car to a garage at a cost of 30.00 and they wont tell you were. this was not disclosed in ad it sats parking

This hotel is basic, but that is good for the price.. so close to Union Sq and Moscone (easy walking distance). and the cable car is right there - easy to fisherman' wharf etc. The staff is very helpful. I have stayed there 4 times on business and will again.

Have stayed here MANY times, the hotel location is perfect in SF, however the details in cleaning the bathrooms are sliping, the rooms are remodeled but the bathrooms are not cleaned 100%, their is Mildew in the shower stalls and hair in the drain, I mentioned this to the hotel manager and he said they would address this with the cleaning staff.. Overall this is still a great old hotel right at Market and Powell street in the heart of Union Square area. Hope they get ontop of the cleaning issue, would hate to see this hotel quality fall short.

Location, location, location. Everything is at your fingertips-shopping, transportation, famous sights. The staff couldn't be more helpful. I will defintitely stay here again.

Not saying that the hotel was horrible because that wasn't the case. It was OK but the building is extremely old. The heater was constantly leaking steam which kind of made it hot and humid in the room. Not actually comfortable to say the least. Also the walls are thin so if there is any extra curricular activities going on next door you are sure to hear. The only available parking was valet which the service itself wasn't bad but the cost was. Thirty dollars a night! The overall service of the hotel was good but as you can see the few things like I mentioned will keep me from returning.

Good reasonalble price for a good room with no window view. Our room had a window that faced other occupied rooms and if we were able to see guests brushing their teeth in their restroom!! Yikes! Unfortunately, our visit there was a rainy weekend and we end up staying in the room which wasn't so bad other than the television having lots of static. Our visit at this hotel was comfortable and the staff was outstanding!! I would definetely recommend this hotel to family and friends. Be sure to ask for a good window view if you're staying on a sunny day :)

The hotel was great for the rate we paid. The room was a little smale but i was only there to sleep in or bathe for the most part. if you run the TV and the hair dryer at the same time, the power in your room will mostly go out and youll have to call to reset the circuit breaker. the water in the bathroom doesnt get very hot, its pretty luke warm in the sink and the shower so it makes for a fast shower if you dont like semi-cold showers.

THE POWELL HOTEL WAS A GREAT CHOICE.

I was traveling by myself and never felt unsafe. There were a few panhandlers near the hotel but they all seemed harmless. I took BART into the city and it comes out right in front of the hotel. Also, right in front of the hotel is every major form of transport. You can get anywhere from Golden Gate Park to Fisherman's Warf. I walked to the theater and some afternoon shopping. The location could not have been better. The hotel itself was small, clean and to my suprise quite. I had an interior room on the top floor. I did not have any of the street noise that others had complained about. The coffee shop down stairs was wonderful. The staff was helpful and polite. I had a very good experience at this hotel. I would recommend it and stay there again. What I expected for the money.

My girlfriend and I stayed here for Valentines day and thought it had a great charm to it. The hotel had a very historical SF feel to it. The location was great, it is literally less than 100yds from the BART station. We were able to walk to Union Square within minutes. Only negative was that despite great location had a terrible view of 3 other buildings. I paid $100 which was more than worth it.

I've stayed here many times and would definitely recommend it. It's an older hotel so you can expect charm (which means it is not sleek like some newer hotels, but it has personality) and they remodeled very recently. The rooms are more than adequate (besides when visiting a city like SF, how much time do you actually spend in the room?). And you can't beat the location--it's close to the BART, Muni, and within walking distance to lots of interesting places and shopping.

Excellent service, excellent location, clean comfortable room and bed, somewhat old tired building, but overall very good value. My partner and I would definitely stay at the Powell Hotel again. Stay much better than we had anticipated from the info on line. we loved it... could not have asked for better service... However, one strong piece of advice I'll tell you is request a room that is NOT facing the noisy/busy Powell Street side. We were in room 630 facing the courtyard interior. We could still hear a very small amount of street noise (mostly sirens) but nothing compared if our window was facing Powell Street. Not much to look at in the interor other than other windows. If you like to lounge around naked be sure to keep your curtain closed. Room is small but couldn't beat the location and price I paid for a Saturday - Tuesday stay. Linens and towels changed daily if requested. Overall a great stay and recommend the Powell Hotel to anyone who requires to be in a central location within the city! The free WIFI was up and running no problems.

Helpful staff, nice recent renovation. Heart of the city location is great. BUT, don't choose this hotel if you are arriving by car. Having to use valet parking and seeing your car zip off into SF traffic to a mystery lot 15 minutes away is bad enough. Having their street-side valet area usually blocked by tour buses or police cars makes it impossible. BART station is right out the door, as is the cable car, the Market St. line, etc. Just don't drive there.

Street car boards near hotel entrance. Bart station near hotel entrance. You can fly to Oakland and take Bart to Powell Street. Local transportation passes available near hotel entrance. Courteous helpful staff. The rooms are old fashion Quaint, small but very cofortable. My wife and I had a great weekend thanks to the Powell Hotel and staff.

This hotel was awesome. It was right downtown at the end off powell street, where all of the good shopping, food, cable cars, sightseeing, clubs/bars,etc. is located. The room from hotel.com was 50% off as well.
