nicht das neuste aber zentral, man kann alles zu fuß erreichen und muß nicht durch abgelegene gegenden....

Lage super! Hotel hat schon bessere Tage gesehen. Bad sehr klein, aber einigermaßen sauber. Mitarbeiter an Rezeption waren freundlich und hilfsbereit. Für ein oder zwei Übernachtungen völlig okay!

Die Zimmerfenster bieten, wie zumeist in den USA, keinen Schallschutz. In der Nähe des Hotels befinden sich einige kleine Restaurants; ideal für Frühstück. In San Francisco gibt es generell viele Obdachlose so auch in der unmittelbaren Umgebung des Hotels diese sind aber völlig harmlos. Die Situation bessert sich je nördlicher man geht; z.B. Polk Street, ab Post Street

Das Hotel war recht sauber, vor allem das Zimmer, was zunächst positiv auffiel. Allerdings hätte man sich die Fenster auch sparen können, der Lärmpegel war extrem hoch. Zudem war es im Zimmer abends sehr kalt, da die Aussentemperaturen noch nicht so hoch waren und die Heizung im Zimmer nicht funktionierte. Die Lage des Hotels war ganz okay, nur etwa 7 Blocks bis zum Union Square. Insgesamt würde ich dieses Hotel aber nicht weiter empfehlen.

Das Hotel war sehr laut. Die Lage und der Preis für seine Leistung sehr gut. Parken sehr teuer.

The hotel is nice and clean. The location of the hotel is near to union square and other sights. While this are is poplated with quite a few homeless it is not worse than many other locations in San Francisco. In this area i never had a bad feeling but from other sources on the internet i understand that a 'bad neighborhood' starts a few blocks south of Geary Street.

Das Monarch Hotel liegt für Touristen in einer günstigen Lage wenn man San Francisco ohne Mietwagen erkunden möchte. Von dort aus erreicht man alle wichtigen Punkte gut zu Fuss oder mit dem Bus bzw. der Cable Bahn. Das Zimmer war sauber und Zweckmäßig eingerichtet. Täglich wurde das Zimmer vom House Keeping gemacht. Die Angestellten des Hotels ware freundlich und hilfsbereit. Sollten wir erneut nach San Francicso fliegen würden wir wieder im Monach einchecken.

Unser Zimmer war zur Strasse raus und etwas laut. Das Hotel liegt günstig bei der Innenstadt.

Pros: clean room, attentive staff, wireless, Great neighborhood to the North on Polk within 2 blocks it begins. Cons: no cel signal, music on weekend AM from apt next door (bring earplugs for sat, sun AM inner rooms), neighborhood seedy, not safe at night for women, far from BART (15 blks +).

Ok hotel, ok location expensive parking and not very helpful staf.

This hotel is one step above SF's residential hotels. There is an adult bookstore directly across the street and it's not a neighborhood you want to be out in after dark.

I think that the hotel is not far from downtown. We can work to the shopping mall as well as China town.

the hotel itself is ok BUT they charge you USD 25 per day for the parking (but you may arrange otherwise)

It looks pretty good from the outside. People at the reception were a little unhelpful when we were trying to find the parking garage. The room itself was fine. It wasn't dirty as far as I noticed, but I was very unhappy with the pillows. We only had two pillows which were as thin as paper. Apart from that, I would recommend it for a 1 or 2 night stay in San Francisco for the cheap price and good location. Don't bring kids though because the area itself is very shady.

I will never ...ever stay at this hotel again, it was filthy, old, and everyone was rude! Oh and our bath towels were dirty, I had to ask for some new ones!!!

From the old-fashioned DEEP tub to the marvelous old-style Chinese window blinds, this place is a real treat. Complete service includes automated wake-up calls and free tea and coffee in the large and plushly carpeted lobby. The elevator is slow, but the stairs are richly and beautifully carpeted. The one problem I had was the street sirens (ambulance, fire, police?) at night, but it seems this is an issue everywhere in downtown San Francisco. I noticed that a lot of Europeans seemed to be taking advantage of this hotel.

We got to the hotel a half an hour after check in,already unimpressed by the fact there was an adult store across the street. We did not even have to insert the card into the door, the door was already open, and the bed was not made as well as the room not being ready. I went to the clerk and made him aware, he just stated the room wasnt ready...ok not profession in my opinion. He then put us in another room, I had asked for a King size bed but was given a queen, when asked he said that there would now be a $20.00 charge. The room had stained towels so i asked for more. The comforter was stained as well. The floors were all squeaky which doesn't help when you have a 2 yr old with you. The day were were leaving we went downstairs assuming there would be some sort of breakfast...there was..for seven dollars. All and all not a very good experience at.

The surrounding area is really sketchy. The hotel staff is nice, and the hotel itself is pretty nice--but it is not a safe area

... but not great!

Hotel was ok, room was clean, neighborhood still ok.. - Remote for TV wasn't working and was replace with a non-functional remote - front desk number was programmed to room 311 (don't book this room) - plumbing under sink was leaking .. (Room 205 if Monarch cares to do sth about it)

We showed up and they didn't even know we had registered a room online. You have to pay for your parking, nowhere to park but a parking garage. We had to walk about 6 blocks until we could get to public transportation but SF is a walking town so that wasn't that bad. No continental breakfast, just bad coffee and tea. The bed was fairly comfortable, our view was of the apartments next door which was less than stellar. Small rooms, no fridge. For the price I paid, I would've liked to park for free. Parking is sad in SF.

It's not worth staying because the hotel doesn't provide any parking so you either have to park on the street, which is inconvenient because there's street cleaning every other day or you can pay $20 to park in a structure that is two blocks away.

It's a very convinient location, i like it, it was good for the Pri$e!!! the only thing i really didn't like it is the Parking. i ask them for Park my car and they say the were full at the time so i have to park like 3-1/2 blocks away from there!!!!

The elevator was scarry my man friend and my two adult children shared a room on the 6th floor and after check in we took the elevator to the 6th floor and the door would not open causing my daughter to have a panic attack. I reccomend you take the stairs or remain calm when the doors don't open. All in all our stay was very nice and the place wasn't as bad as the reviews that I had read, in fact it was really nice.

The staff was friendly and competent. The hotel was spotless and comfortable. And the room was everything I needed it to be, clean, comfortable, and equipped with a dorm-sized refrigerator (no mini-bar). The Monarch was also the most reasonably priced hotel I've stayed in in SF (and I've stayed in quite a few) and absolutely the best value. The location is in within walking distance of the BART (though perhaps not with heavy luggage) and the Van Ness AMC theater.

Nice clean room, very small quarters...elevator very small. If you have more than 2 person it's tight. Good location and for the $ very resonable.

The service was great. The staff was very friendly. The location is good. It's not the best area, but it's not bad and it's convenient. It's near main streets so it's easy to catch a cab. Parking is easy with a lot right next to the hotel (at a car service station). The room has older carpets and bedding. It's what you'd expect from a 2 star hotel and I was prepared (brought my own bedding). The room is spacious. The only bad part is that the walls / doors are thin. Overall it was more than I expected and the price was a great value.

It was a nice stay for the price. The surrounding of the hotel was a bit on the shady side. One morning around 3 am, there were a van full with guys who just hop out and started banging on random cars causing a lot of noise. Luckily, we had used the hotel valet parking which was another 25 dollars a day. The room itself was nice and roomy. But watch out if you're booking a hotel looking for wifi, because this place claims they have internet access, but it only works in the lobby; that's if you're lucky. Overall, I would not stay again, not because of the service of hotel, etc, but because of the surrounding area.

The hotel is near the city center just around 15 minutes walking to the heart of the city. For lazy people frequently buses get you to the center quickly. The hotel is clean and well equipped. Although in reception the were not very warm that was not a problem. I would go to this hotel every single time I'd go back to SF.

The staff are helpful, the rooms are comfortable and quite clean but this is one of the few hotels in SF that permits smoking and, unfortunately, rather a lot of the clientele prefer controlled substances. Smoke wafts in through the bathroom ventilation and, if you open the bedroom windows, you participate in the enthusiastic conversations of the clients of the "adult" movie theatre across the street. It is a very good price for SF downtown hotels but you do risk partying in someone else's festivity.

It's your basic hotel in a seedy but convenient neighborhood. The rooms were small but fine. The neighborhood is pretty noisy, and there are a lot of homeless people around (and porn; may not a great family choice). On the other hand, I had a room in downtown San Francisco close to many bus routes for less than I've spent in many an airport dive. A great choice if you're more interested in saving money than luxurious accommodations. For breakfast I would recommend a nearby breakfast place. About a block and a half away, on Geary right off Larkin, is the Moulin Breakfast Cafe. It's tiny with a badly handwritten sign, that belies it's true nature. It's a cute little place with above average food at below average prices run by a very nice older couple. I only discovered it my last day, but if I'd known sooner, I would have gone there every morning.

If you take into account the price, and don't expect 5* service for this money, this is quite a good hotel. The rooms are clean, staff is friendly and helpful, and they even have free wifi. Location is just in the middle between all the main attractions, so, basically a bit far from everything, so if you are short of time, you will have to use public transport, but if you have plenty of time, you can reach anywhere on foot. Biggest disadvantage is the district where the hotel is located - very poor and suspicious. But I didn't have any problems with safety. And the better district starts just ~3 blocks away.

They need to make sure that every room is ready to use. Cause when I tried to check in, the room was so messy and dirty. Finally they gave me the clean room. The internet acces need to up gradeee...so it will more faster. The customer service lady is so niceeee.

If you are looking for a cheap place to stay in town - this is it. If you are looking for anything more you will not find it here. Travel in pairs at night and dont park too far from the hotel. Parking is $20.00 per day and you share spots with the crowd going to the strip club across the street.

This hotel had an excellent staff and the rooms was very clean, although it was on the small side. There were no views, but the location is just a few minutes walk from Union Square and there are quite a few restaurants nearby, as well as being only a few minutes drive from the embarcadero. Overall, it was a very good value for the price

The hotel was nicer than I expected. That area of Polk seems to have improved since my last stay in San Francisco a few years back. The neighborhood still has some of the old fixtures of days past such as adult bookstores, beggars,& homeless (although they seem much less aggresive)but has opened many new shops and restaurants. I will consider staying here on my next visit to San Francisco.
