sehr gute Lage, nahe an der U-Bahn und am Grand Central Terminal. Hausangestellte waren alle überaus zuvorkommend und nett.

Die Zimmer und insbesondere das Bad sind groß. Trotz zweier ca. 120 m breiter Betten von ausgezeichneter Liegequalität war genügend "Verkehrsfläche" vorhanden. Unser Bad hatte eine Wanne mit sehr gut funktionierender Dusche. Auffällig im Zimmer war der fehlende Kühlschrank mit Minibar. Die Reinigung ist vorbildlich. Die Klimaanlage funktioniert schnell und mit akzeptablem Geräuschpegel. Unser Ausblick auf die 42. Straße war überwältigend, weil man auch das ganz in der Nähe stehende Chrysler-Bulilding vor sich hat. Rückwärts sieht man wohl auf das Empire-State-Building. Wahrlich traumhaft ist die Lage in der 42. Straße, die als eine der wenigen in NY in beiden Richtungen befahrbar ist. Die Busse in alle Richtungen halten ganz in der Nähe und zum Grand Central Station mit den vielen U-Bahnen geht man keine fünf Minuten. Die 42. Straße liegt m.E. ideal zwischen Uptown und Downtown und durch den M42-Bus (u.a.), der die Straße alle paar Minuten durchfährt, ist man schnell in den verschiedenen anderen Avenues. Zufälligerweise sind auch die Wasser-Rundfahrten am Ende der 42. Straße (Circle-Line am Pier 87) ideal mit diesem Bus erreichbar. Das Preis-/Leistungs-Verhältnis war - auch durch die Buchung über hotels.com - angemessen bis gut. Wenn man sich vorstellt, dass im Zimmer vier Personen gut Platz gefunden hätten (im Bad waren auch immer für vier alle Handtucharten vorhanden), dann kommt man sogar auf ausgezeichnete Werte.

Meine Frau und ich haben insgesamt 3 Nächte (12.06.09-14.06.09) in diesem Hotel verbracht. Das Zimmer (19 Stock) war recht gross mit sehr gemütlichem King Size Bett. Bad war auch sehr geräumich. Leider liess die Sauberkeit sehr viel zu wünschen übrig: Fensterrahmen, Ablagen im Bad, Feuermelder, Minibar hatten eine deutlich erkennbare (zum Teil) fettige Staubschicht und der Teppich hatte einen muffeligen Geruch. Fenster waren schlecht abgedichtet und konnten nicht richtig zugemacht werden, so dass es im Zimmer abends sehr laut war (wir haben immer mit Ohrstöpseln geschlaffen). Jedes Zimmer ist mit einer sehr teuren Minibar ausgestattet, die automatisch erfasst, falls Snacks oder Getränke geholt werden. Am Abend des zweiten Tages haben wir eine kleine Weinflasche auf unserem Schreibtisch vorgefunden. Das vermeintliche Hotelgeschenk hat uns beim Check-Out 10$ gekostet, da dies angeblich von uns aus der Minibar geholt wurde. Unsere Beschwerde hat nicht viel bewirkt, so dass wir verärgert das Hotel verlassen haben.

Sehr angenehmer Aufenthalt. Top-Lage in Midtown Manhattan. Einziger Kritikpunkt: Das Zimmer war zu warm.

Wir haben vor unserer Buchung dieses Hotels viele sehr positive Kritiken gelesen und können diesen nur absolut zustimmen. Das Hotel wirkt insgesamt sehr nobel, es ist sehr gut gelegen und das gesamte Personal war wirklich stets freundlich und hilfsbereit. Wir würden das Hotel jederzeit wieder buchen.

Gut gelegenes Hotel - 5 Minuten zum Grand Central und den Haltestellen der Airport-Busse sowie viele Sehenswürdigkeiten sind zu Fuß zu erreichen -, ordentliche, gut ausgestattete und saubere Zimmer sowie freundliche Bedienstete.

Das Hotel liegt an der 42. so dass wir einen super Ausblick auf das Empire State Buildung hatten. Der Ausblick vorne raus wäre auf das Chrysler Building gewesen... Der Service war super nur die Putzfrau war ab 9 Uhr morgens etwas nervig...

Wir hatten ein Familienzimmer, d.h. 4 Personen in 2 Doppelbetten, was vom Preis-Leistungsverhältnis in dieser Kategorie kaum schlagbar war. Außerdem liegt das Helmsley sehr zentral. Der Nachteil ist dafür, dass man in einem Hotel ohne besonderen Charme unterkommt. Das Zimmer war aber absolut in Ordnung, mit der üblichen "Grundausstattung" TV, Safe, Bügeleisen, sogar Bademantel aber ohne Minibar (ich brauche die - da sündhaft teuer - ohnehin nicht). Ansonsten alles eben guter Standard. Die Aussicht vom Zimmer ist allerdings nicht berühmt (immerhin: runter in die Straßenschlucht der 42nd Street). Und Vorsicht: die Kofferträger nehmen unverschämt viel Trinkgeld ;<

Gutes Zimmer und sehr zentrale Lage

Wir haben dieses Hotel aufgrund seiner geräumigen Zimmer und seiner zentralen Lage wegen gewählt und sind nicht enttäuscht worden. Unser Zimmer (mit King size Bed) war tatsächlich sehr komfortabel, die Betten sehr gut, was wichtig ist, wenn man NY den ganzen Tag zu Fuß erkundet und das Zimmer war sehr sauber. Das Personal ist freundlich und hilfsbereit. Alle Fragen - auch nach speziellen Geschäften - wurden sofort beantwortet und man hat uns Adressen auch ausgedruckt. Nach dem Auschecken kann man das Gepäck im Hotel lassen, wenn man noch Zeit bis zum Abflug hat. Bis zum Grand Central Terminal sind es nur wenige Minuten zu Fuß und man kommt von dort aus fast überall mit der subway hin. Es lohnt sich auf jeden Fall, dieses Hotel zum Ausgangspunkt für Trips durch New York zu nehmen. Direkt neben dem Hotel gibt es ein diner, in dem man sehr gut und abwechselungsreich frühstücken kann. Es ist unbedingt zu empfehlen!

Das Hotel Helmsley werden wir auf jeden Fall wieder buchen, es hat unsere Erwartungen übertroffen. Wir konnten problemlos den early check-in Service nutzen, bekamen ein Cityview Zimmer, obwohl wir nur Standard gebucht hatten! Wir hatten einen Traumblick auf das Empire State Building. Das Hotel ist super sauber und die Lage einfach toll. Das Cryslerbuilding ist vor der Tür, man kann bequem zu Fuß zum Empire und Times Square laufen. Das Grand Central Terminal ist 5 min. Fußweg entfernt. Von dort kann man mit der Metro fahren. Wir werden das Hotel unseren Freunden und Verwandten weiterempfehlen!!!

Freundlicher Empfang, Wunsch nach ruhigem Zimmer wurde prompt bereits beim einchecken berücksichtigt. Gute Lage, alles wichtige zu Fuss erreichbar.

Optimal für Stadtbesichtigung - Viele Sehenswürdigkeiten sind zu Fuß erreichbar Time Square, Empire State Building, Grand Central Station etc.

Excellent location, with a view of the Chrysler building to wake up to:)

Stayed here for 5 nights this month, whilst the location is great for all the sights etc, the fact that there is no restaurant/bar or lobby in the place at the moment is a huge no no. Rooms were spacious with everything you needed and were very comfy. I wouldn't go back until renovations were complete. I heard that staff were not friendly but with the exception of one snotty concierge the rest of the staff were lovely.

Rates better due to major renovation of Lobby - no restaurant or bar - but lots of places close by mean it is a great deal. Good sized, clean rooms. Needs in-room coffee maker.

The hotel was fine. The first floor is being redone, so you had to get through the construction to get to the lobby on the 3rd floor, which was a surprise. Still, it is a great location and I'd stay there again.

Everyone was sooooo helpful and friendly, from the front desk to the maids to the doormen. The beds were wonderfully comfortable for our tired-out-from-walking bodies!

The New York Helmsley is undergoing a significant renovation of the lobby and entry level. The result: no dining facilities and no bar. It was possible to order room service food, but dining this way would be quite expensive. This condition at this hotel will likely exist for weeks if not longer. There was no warning on the hotel web site when we booked (unless it was there but in fine print). We stayed there because we were attending a wedding and this was the suggested hotel for wedding guests. Before booking rooms at this hotel, it would be wise to ask about the renovation currently underway.

The hotel is spacious, elegant and comfortable and the mid-town Manhattan location is convenient for travel to local events (US Open Tennis).

I was worried after I read some reviews. I stayed for a week with my daughter, mother, and aunt. We had two rooms and they were able to put us next door to each other. All of use were pleased with the comfortable beds, convient location, and friendliness of the staff. Hotel restraunt and bar was being remodled but I doubt we would have eaten there with all of the great places NYC has to offer. This was my first visit to NY and I had heard how small the hotel rooms were. Ours seem typical hotel room size with 2 double beds, chair, desk, and armoire. The new TV was on the desk and a little inconvient to see from one of the beds but since we spent very little time in the room it was not an issue. I would not mind staying there again.

Would have been nice to have been informed about the hotel renovations

Couldn't get a glass of hot water at 11.30pm to take medicine.

My boyfriend and I stayed at this hotel for 5 days, and we had a fantastic time. The hotel was very comfortable, with large rooms, comfortable bed; and despite the renovation work going on downstairs, this made no difference to our trip, as no noise could be heard from our room and none of the services we wanted were affected. The restuarants in the hotel were closed, however they did offer room service for breakfast, lunch and dinner. We didn't require food in the hotel anyway, as we walked to one of the many restaurants in Times Square for dinner, and convineantly used 'Pax' next door to the hotel, which was fantastic for breakfast/lunch! The temporary reception and concierge on level 3 were well equipped and always ready to help. The location is great, easy walking distance - just a few blocks from the centre of Times Square, 5th Avenue, Empire State building and the Rockefeller Centre. Couldn't ave chosen anywhere better to stay, and we are looking forward to going back and seeing the finished renovation work!

During our stay, the lobby of the hotel was being refurbished, bu this did not ruin our stay at all. You don't eveb notice it apart from a bit of scaffolding, and there was no work noise. The staff were extremely friendly and welcoming after our long trip, and our room had fantastic views, including the Empire State Building. Anyone who has trouble sleeping in strange beds will not fail to sleep well in the most comfortable hotel beds ever! The Helmsley is in a great location for Grand Central Station, so you can get anywhere by train or subway, and only a short walk from Times Square and the shopping of 5th Avenue. It would be great to go back and see the newly refurbished lobby!

We have stayed at the Helmsley New York several times. we love the location - a block from Grand Central - you can get anywhere in the city from there. there is a cheap place for breakfast right next door. very convient. the loby is under construction, but there were people everywhere to help us find our way. will def. stay there again and again. highly recomend.

The Helmsley is under construction which was not mentioned when we booked the hotel. The staff was very considerate and helpful however the room was only average at best. The location is very good but quite noisy. The shower worked poorly and the hair dryer and iron did not work at all. This was not worth the price we paid!

the hotel is idealy suited for a leisure break, the only disappointment was that the hotel is under reconstruction and we were not aware of this until we arrived. The inconvenience was kept to a minimum but it would have been nice to have a bar to relax in after a long day out.. I would have no problem recommending this hotel and would use it again for my next visit.

Nice hotel for the hotel.com price. Rooms are very nice but a little dark with only table lamps. Close to the city, Grand Central, and Times Square Don't like the little "gotcha" where they ring up $200 for incidentals at check-in IN CASE you might use something. They do refund it but I thought it was pushy.

Rooms were lovely but reburbishment meant no restuarant or bars. We were not told this before we booked. Lack of information on arrival as we were told there was a pool on the top floor. Poor service but maybe because of the disruption at the moment. Great location and very comfortable rooms.

Hotel is ideally suited for exploring the pleasures that New York has to offer, either by foot or public transport. Excellent eatries in the vicinity and the major shopping avenues 5th etc are within walking distance. Only problem the hotel lobby and the dining areas were being refurbished and it would have been ideal if we had been alerted of this at the time of booking. Will definitely stay here again.

The Helmsley is a very comfortable hotel and the location is quite convenient for shopping, Rockerfeller, Chrysler Building and Grand Central Station. It's about a 30 minute walk to Central Park or Times Square but there are plenty of taxis and they are not too expensive. The hotel was comfortable but was being renovated whilst we were there, so there was no restaurant or bar and reception was on the third floor. I would recommend the hotel when the work is finished, but guess the price we paid reflected this.

Very accommodating and flexible.

My girlfriend and I stayed at the NY Helmsley in August and it was a very nice stay, largely due to the room itself. A big plasma with lots of channels, nice bathroom and bath, and best of all a big comfortable bed made our stay the most comfortable we've had in a long time. There were renovations going on downstairs which did not affect us, and the service from the staff in general was adequate. Location was brilliant, right near grand central station and a 10 minute walk to times square. I would stay here again for sure.

We got a great rate and knew it was under construction so were a little concerned, but the doorman met us at the door and took us up to the "make shift" reception area. The construction did not effect our visit at all. Our room was clean, and after leaving the bottom floor, we forgot about it completely. The location was perfect! Great deal!!

As a later sleeper, I was grateful that the cleaning service waited to clean rooms that were occupied last… never had anyone knock on the door to clean my room. One down side of the hotel was that the first floor was under construction and that the restaurant and bar was not open, but there were plenty of places to go on 42nd St. The bed was not great, but not bad. Tip: bring your own pillow, if you don't like sleeping on huge pillows. My wife used a bath towel in place of the hotel pillow.

My wife and I stayed here for our first trip to NYC. The location was extremely convenient. Hotel was under construction, which I didn't know when I booked, but it wasn't too big of a deal. It was a minor inconvenience, but since we were close to everything at a very inexpensive price a night, I was okay with it. Disappointed with bell staff. When we first arrived, as I was paying the cab fare, I saw a bellman go to the back of the car. I thought he put the bags on the cart, but after I tipped him, once we got to the room, my wife said that he just stood there and watched while SHE unloaded the bags. Overall, it wasn't the nicest hotel, but it was clean, safe, and the majority of the staff was very pleasant. We would stay here again after the renovations, assuming price was still right. We always came out of the hotel and turned left to get to Times Square, Grand Central Station, Rockafeller Center, etc, but it turns out that if you turn right, the United Nations is only about a block away!
