King George Hotel - Union Square - San Francisco

Wir (2 Personen 55/60 J. alt) waren im August 2009 für 9 Tage im "King George", da wir uns San Francisco ansehen wollten. Die Lage des Hotels ist unübertroffen gut - alle Sehenswürdigkeiten sind zu Fuß zu erreichen, der Preis ist sehr in Ordnung, das Personal an der Rezeption sehr freundlich, hilfsbereit und überaus kompetent und - für uns ein wichtiger Aspekt - es gibt in der obersten (9.) Etage Raucherzimmer ! Wir würden uns jederzeit wieder für dieses Hotel entscheiden !

Der Hotel ist sehr sauber. Jedes Zimmer hat kostenlos WLAN-Internetzugang. Unten bei der Rezeption stehen zwei PCs Hotelgästen zur Verfügung. Die BART Station Powell Street ist zum Fuß innerhalb 3 Minuten zu erreichen. Von dort kann man mit BART zum San Francisco Flughafen fahren. Fahrkarte kostet für einfache Fahrt 8,10 Dollar (Stand: August 2009).

Folgende Unannehmlichkeiten müssen in Kauf genommen werden: - Im Bad keine Heizung, Schiebefenster schließt nicht dicht, Flurtüren lassen Geräusche aus dem Flur leicht durch (evtl. nicht in allen Zimmern) - z.T. lange Wartezeiten am einzigen Aufzug - das dürftige, optionale Frühstück wurde Ende März 2009 eingestellt (aber es gibt eine Kaffemaschine im Zimmer) Positives: Wir haben im 6.OG. in Richtung der Geary St. gewohnt; Verkehrslärm hat uns nicht gestört, obwohl wir in dieser Hinsicht empfindlich sind. Internetzugang war kostenlos und problemlos.

Ein völlig durchschnittliches Hotel mitten in der City mit einem fairen Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis.

Leider trotz guter Voraussetzungen kein Restaurantbetrieb. WLAN kostenlos, doch PC-Nutzung (z.B. für Check in) muss bezahlt werden. Durch zentrale Lage günstig für Stadtbesuch. "Bonbon- Service" sehr gut.

Das Hotel liegt direkt am Union Square, nahe Macys und allen anderen bekannten Geschäften. Ihr braucht hier keinen Mietwagen, da die Parkmöglichkeiten super teuer sind und ihr von hier alles bequem und schnell entweder zu Fuss oder per Cabelcar etc. erreichen könnt. Achtung, solltet ihr ein Zimmer hier buchen, achtet darauf, dass es nicht zum Hof raus geht. Neben dem Hotel befindet sich ein super Dinner, allerdings befindet sich die Küche zum Hof hin und es lässt sich leider nicht vermeiden, dass es dann beim geöffnetem Fenster nach Speck und sonstigem Essen riecht. Ebenfalls fanden wir es nicht wirklich gut, das die Kosten für die Internetnutzung sehr hoch sind. Die Türen zu den Zimmern fanden wir ebenfalls nicht wirklich sicher, da sie auf unserer Etage wohl schon etwas älter und wackeliger waren. Aber, dass Hotelpersonal ist freundlich und hilft immer gerne, die Zimmer sind sauber und der gesamte Eindruck stimmt. Wir würden auf jeden Fall dort wieder 2-3 Tage übernachten da das Preisleistungsverhältniss und die sehr zentrale Lage, trotz der kleinen Schönheitsfehler, absolut überzeugend sind.

Ausgezeichnete Lage im Centrum San Franciscos. Das Frühstück ist typisch amerikanisch, bietet aber genug für den Tag. Die Zimmer sind einfach, sauber und vor allem ruhig.

Einfache und etwas antiquierte Einrichtung, aber Betten o.K., sehr sauber, ruhig, zentral gelegen, freundliches Personal und für den Preis absolut in Ordnung. Für einen Kurzurlaub jederzeit zu empfehlen, wenn das Einfache nicht stört.

Klein aber fein. Die Zimmer sind eher klein, aber in SF will man auch nicht im Hotel sein. Das Hotel super zentral. Leider nur ein Fahrstuhl was gut fuer die Fitness ist.

Für drei Sterne ein gutes Hotel, sehr freundliches und hilfsbereits Personal. Ideal für kurze Städtereisen. Nachts sehr laut, da mitten im Zentrum. Bitte nicht im Hotel frühstücken (miserable). Nebenan im Café Mason gibt es für den gleichen Preis ein hervorragendes Frühstück.

Toller Service an der Rezeption, Lage des Hotels sehr zentral, gute Gegend, gemütliche Betten, eigenes Bad mit Fön und Badewanne, Raucherzimmer, gute Verkehrsanbindung vom Flughafen, Fernseher,

My room backed into an alley that was shared by the hostel and a restaurant. As you may know, SF has a large homeless population. Each night, the homeless would sort through the garbage outside my window (I was on the 5th floor) and find bottles for recycling. This was very noisy as parts of my window were not glass panes, but plastic shutters, offering no relief from the noise. The location is great and the hotel has charm. Rooms are very small, but fashionably furnished. If you are unable to take stairs easily (even with your luggage), you may want to look elsewhere as it often took a long time to wait for the single elevator servicing the neighborhood.

This hotel was awesome value compared with others that I have stayed at in Union Square. The rooms were small but adequate and everything was newly decorated and furnished. There was a parking garage across the street which was convenient and had reasonable rates, although you could probably find cheaper parking if you want to shop around. It would have been nice if they offered a continental breakfast but Lori's Diner is right next door for yummy waffles.

nice hotel in a good location, very dated inside, although it is in keeping with the theme of the hotel. (room was small and with ceiling fan instead of aircon, had a safe in the room which was good for security

It had been almost 23 years since I had last stayed at this hotel. The decor and roominess of the "executive" (I believe that was the title, but I may be mistaken. The location was excellent and valet parking was very helpful. Best value for a top notch location.

What a wonderful older hotel in San Francisco, the rooms are small but really you're only sleeping there in the great city of San Francisco. I can't say enough about the courtesy of all the staff. The only bad thing was the hotel bartender he was fixative on one customer and wanted to talk politics. I would recommend this hotel to all my friends and you too.

The staff at the King George Hotel were the nicest I have ever encountered!

Somehow I managed to fit my family of five in a room with two twins (I didn't know what a twin bed was -- my bad). Anyway the staff was nice enough, and let me have a roll-away at no extra cost.

REally good place to stay.. really close to mall, bart, and taxis. 24 hour diner next door pretty good food too, service was great didnt need them to much but very nice when we arrived. highly recommend it and its an alright price

This was my first time staying at the King George Hotel. I am frequently in SFO on business and found this hotel to meet my expectations. The desk in the room is very tiny and hard to work on. The location is good, close to dining, shopping and mass transportation. The hotel staff is curtious and friendly.

We found this hotel was excellently situated. It's an easy 5 - 10 minute walk to a BART railway station (that goes to SF International airport) and near the terminus of two of the three cable car lines that the city is famous for. There are also lots of big-name stores. Barneys, Macy's, Bloomingdales as well of lots of smaller designer stores are very nearby towards Union Square. There are also lots of places to eat, some of them open 24 hours a day, with something for everyone. Be aware that the hotel is not actually on Union Square, as the name suggests, but is actually on Mason between the intersections of Geary and O'Farrell. This is only a block from union square, but it affects the way you walk from the nearest station.

We travel to San Francisco once a year during the summer and we always try to stay at different locations within the city. The King George Hotel is great and is in the heart of Union Square. Great location and is close to Muni, and the BART stations. Shopping, dining establishments, and bars are all nearby and walking distance. The hotel staff are very pleasant and helpful. I got locked out of my room (my fault) and the staff was there is less than a minute to help me. I will have to say that the elevator situation could use a bit of work. It is very tiny and there is only one. I can see how it can bother some guests. We took the stairs everyday, and looked at it as some exercise to our great vacation.

I enjoyed my stay. My room was fine. Everyone was very nice and the location was very convenient.

All in all my stay at the King George Hotel was very pleasant. The hotel itself was great. Was it small? sure but it is an older building and they play up the coziness. The staff was courteous and the concierge was helpful. I did not partake of the lounge, breakfast or internet, so I cannot speak of those amenities. The location of the hotel was great. It was within walking distance of everything downtown and the staff was more than happy to give directions or get you a cab. Yes there are homeless beggars but guess what...IT'S SAN FRANCISCO! I would reccomend King George to anyone.

The King George is a European style hotel (charming, small rooms, clean) right in the heart of downtown SF. The staff are pleasant and courteous and the ambiance is pleasant. Since I was working a conference at the Hilton across the street, I was only in my room to sleep, but the bed was comfortable and the outside noise minimal. Great place to stay!

The elevator was out of order for 1 evening, however it was fixed by the morning. When we arrived there was a used wash cloth in the bathroom. The location makes it a little noisy for light sleepers. The bed was not comfy, I had to sleep on an angle because my husband, who is about 75 pounds heavier than I weighed down his side of the worn out mattress. The receptionist and concierge were helpful and the overall cleanliness of the hotel was good.

Good area, great taxi service provided by front desk.... great weekend!

Although some reviewers have said their rooms were small, mine, because of its configuration, was in fact fairly spacious. The decoration, carpeting, linens, bedspread, cabinets and furniture were very tasteful, even luxurious, the towels large and thick. The bathroom was spotless, with very nice appointments, including marble countertop and magnifying lighted shaving mirror; large ironing board and iron were also provided; large-screen flat TV was top quality, with cable. Best of all, WiFi had pretty strong signal, and room had a small safe large enough to hold (small) laptop and other valuables. Staff were very courteous. Hotel is conveniently located to all public transportation, including cable cars on Powell and Muni/BART stations on Market, as well as to good shopping, nice restaurants of many varieties (Lori's diner, next door, is open 24 hours and is excellent). All in all, the King George offers very good value for money. I'd highly recommend it to anyone, tourist or business traveler.

The location is great. Very close to cable car and opera house. The room was small but comfortable. Unfortunately the bar is a bit of a let down.

A stay at the King George will round out your San Francisco experience. It's location is convenient to major bus / street car stops & BART stations, as well as being within walking distance of major 'hot' spots, such as SFMoMA & Union Square. The staff is wonderful, helpful, and knowledgeable. The rooms are cozy & bright, with everything you'll need to feel at home (TV, alarm clock, ceiling fan, etc). And, should you desire, your room is impeccably re-assembled every day. Be sure to drop in on the fantastic bartender, Drew. He runs a fun ship, and takes the already positive vibe to a whole new level. Lastly, the atmosphere throughout the hotel fosters a camaraderie between the other guests, allowing for opportunities to meet fellow travelers from all over the globe. Great hotel! Highly recommended!

This hotel is very nice at about half the price of other hotels right next door. Excellent location. I'm very happy and intend to stay there in future. only problem is downtown San Francisco with zillions of annoying homeless people after dark. They don't seem dangerous, but they are ubiquitous! But I would have had the same issue at the Hilton next door at 2-3 times the price. I highly recommend this hotel.

The location is very good, close to Union Square. The hotel is average, the elevator is terrible (small and slow). The beds were dated, tv old and overall the place needs a remodel. If you can deal with that, the location makes up for it.

We stayed on the 4th floor and it was a little noisy with street sounds. Ask for a room higher up.

good place, i'd stay again

Our room had character with high ceilings and huge windows..clean with fresh paint...generous with coffee and mints..and we couldn't have had a better location if we had built it ourselves..we'll be back..

Good, clean room if a little small. Only one elevator for the entire hotel (nine floors?), which was a little slow with all the stops. The two staircases were tight spirals, not something you'd take with luggage. Free Wi-Fi was a plus, as was the convenience to downtown San Francisco and the bus/trolley lines.

The hotel is a very well maintained boutique hotel in downtown San Francisco. This is a great hotel if you're looking for something that is in the thick of the city, and reflects the charm of the area. It's a little quirky, the nearly-spiral staircase is a great example, but the service is friendly and stellar. The rooms are comfortable and well appointed, a little small by today's standards, but reflecting again the history of the area. I will definitely return to the King George Hotel.
