El Tapatio Hotel And Resort - Guadalajara

It really needs a good overhaul for comfort, but the view of the city at night and old mission style charm was worth a one night stay. The hotel staff were friendly and helpfull. The restuarant served us a very good meal. I would stay again but only as a one night buffer to be close to the airport. It is not convienent to the city unless you rent a car. I had researched the property before making reservations and knew what to expect.

pool was out of order. cannot walk to anything. gym room is dysfunctional. hotel clerk extrememly helpful located a lost passport at the airport. no tv control in the room.

Older hotel but very comfortable close to the airport service was great

Thirty years ago this hotel was spectacular. The location and views are the best. Unfortunately, they have allowed the hotel to deteriorate, it really needs renovation. The restaurants are very good, the rooms are large, but overall the hotel is run down. Especially the pool and the pool area. the pool was such that you would not want to get in the water. Lastly, while the location is great for the views you will need to rent a car to get to the city center or sightseeing.

Everything was wonderful except that the shower drain was very slow. The water did not run fast through the drain creating stuck water. This hotel should consider an inspection of all rooms for future guests or the guests will be unpleased. Otherwise, I liked everything. Thank you.

I enjoy everything execpt they need to improve there health center the machines are to old

The hotel is very nice and colonial, excellent for a visit to Guadalajara. The hoetl sit on top of a mountain which has a very nice view of the city but you can get car sick you getting up to the lobby and rooms. A nice surprise was the wireless internet connection in the room at no extra charge(once you find a good signal in the room, don't move!) Overall we had a nice weekend and would come back.

The hotel personnel is very friendly and efficient. The grounds could be a little better, however, inside the room it was very clean spacious adn quiet. The view of the city from the room was nice. I liked their security at the entrance of the grounds. Breakfast was fresh. They offered a good variety of Mexican dishes including quesadillas de huitlacoche and home made salsa picante. The cafe de olla was delicious. Over all, this was an ejoyable stay. The rate was good. I would go back again.

I was pleasantly suprised, The hotel was very clean, pool was great,people and food were great, David the door man and the regular taxi guy Jorge was great.. I will go back ,Located about 15 minutes from airport and 15 minutes from downtown.

We were extremely comfortable in the hotel. The service at the restaurants and at the reception were exceptional. Everyone was extremely polite and accomodating. There was a problem with the electrical fuse in our room which could not be fixed but another room was offered immediately. Through the hotel recommendation, we hired a Tour Guide called Orlando, who really made the trip. The free shuttle service was an added bonus. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

Pros: This hotel is situated on a hill that provides great views in all directions. The staff are very courteous and well trained. The food in the restaurant was moderately priced and very tasty. The room we had was spacious with a great view from a large balcony. Free airport shuttle. Cons: Location is not really close to the city center or anything else for that matter, but they do provide a free shuttle to town and airport. The overall finish is looking a little old and tired, (really getting picky now). Good Value, next time I go I'll take my tennis gear.

This was a very pleasant older hotel. What it lacked in updated amenities it made up for in a kind of "Old World Charm" and a very gracious staff. People looking for night life might try somewhere else, but it was quiet and romantic, at least when my husband and I stayed there.

We chose this hotel for its closeness to the airport and because they offer shuttle service to the airport. We booked three rooms for a total of seven people. Upon our arrival we were told our rooms where in three different floors but in the same building. When requested the rooms to be in the same floor, we were offered dirty rooms. We had to decline the "offer" (of course) and agreed to take the three rooms they had initially reserved for us.I can't believe they offered us dirty rooms. That was uncalled for. Then, when we inquired about their airport shuttle service, we were told the two vans that take people to the airport were broken and that there was only one small car available. We were concerned about our transportation to the airport as it was going to be at 5:00 A.M. for an early morning flight and we had several pieces of luggage. We asked if the hotel could find a way to get all seven of us to the airport in one trip but they only offered to take some people at 4:00 A.M and some others at 5:00 A.M. Even if we had accepted their "offer" we would've had to get an additional cab to the airport. In the end, we had to pay for two taxicabs to take us to the airport. We felt it was unfair that the hotel did not even offer to pay for our taxicab ride since the issues with the broken vans was not our fault. If you plan on staying at El Tapatio because they offer shuttle service to the airport, you should reconsider your decision.

Room had outdated bathrooms, terrible pillows and cheap linens. Staff was not very energetic or friendly. Lobby lacked an inviting atmosphere -- perhaps music, live entertainment etc.

This hotel was gorgeous at onetime. It is in need of an overhaul, as it is very old and needs refurbishing. All bed linens, towels and curtains are ancient giving your room a "dirty" feel. The waitstaff at the restaurant were very friendly however the personnel at the front desk were rude and provided incorrect information regarding travel distances to outlying areas. If shopping and sightseeing is a priority the location of this hotel, high atop a hill is not conveniant for travel by city bus.

Have mature people in the front desk to solve situations.

A little noisy on the road side of the hotel.

A beautiful hotel with a very old, mexican design. The gated property had a lovely cobblestone drive that made it fee authentic mexican. The staff was outstanding from the start. They spoke both mexican and english. The bellhop meet us in the parking lot outside our room and carried all our and the rest of our family's belongings up three flights of stairs. All staff was very informative as to how to get around the resort. The taxi service was excellent and told us about Lake Chalupa which my husband and I loved!! The buffett was excellent along with other staff in the restaurant. It was also nice to have convenient internet service for free.

I was very disappointed with El Tapatio. The night we arrived in Guadalajara, we went to El Tapatio to check in. They ended up sending us somewhere else because of plumbing problems in "all 3 rooms". We came back the next day and our room had not been cleaned. We had several power outages that night and to make matters worse I got very ill and required medical attention. My husband called the front desk and asked for assistance in getting medical help immediately. They said it would take about 30 minutes. After an hour of waiting my husband called the front desk again. They said it would be another 40 minutes. We decided to get help on our own to get to a hospital. The following days the room service was very poor. I didn't appreciate the maid pounding on the door early in the morning to clean the room after I had been so ill and that was with th "privacy please" sign on the door. I won't be going back there and would strongly recommend no one else go there either.

The service was fast and impecable.

The grounds were beautiful and service was good... be a little careful of the language barrier..

This is an interesting property on a hill, just off the highway but feels like a real getaway. Our room was quite a hike from the main desk, including 4 flights of stairs. Request a close-in room. The pool area and view of the city at night is lovely.

This is a 5 star hotel, that needs to work on it's customer service. I had a great time and would return.

Having stayed at hotels in Mexico before, I did not have high hopes for this one. But we were all very impressed! The rooms are extra large, they are clean (I didn´t even have qualms about using the bathrooms). But the jewel is the other facilities. The pool is magnificent and has a swim-up bar! There is a bar and a restaurant in the hotel and it seems to me that it should be rated higher than just a 3 star hotel - it was quite fancy! The service was top of the line as well. Could not ask for more!
