Maybe the name 'Magestic Hotel' should have been a clue, because magestic it ain't, by any stretch of the imagination. Check-in was hassle-free, the receptionist was friendly & helpful. A poorly photocopied sign on the desk advised guests not to leave ANY valuables in their room when going out. The hotel will store items for you at no charge. Problem #1: one of the two elevators was out of service, no big deal. On exiting the elevator on the 3rd floor, I was greeted by the dirtiest, most threadbare carpet I've ever seen, and the corridor walls were scuffed, dirty, and hadn't been painted in years. The door to my single room, 309, was dirty, the room was tiny, noisy (the windows didn't close fully - traffic is very heavy 24/7 on the Cromwell Rd), the tv remote was covered in dirt from handling. The tiniest bed in Lilliput, oh sorry, London, was dressed in spotless linens - thank god for some redeeming feature. The bed was, however, up against a dirty wall, like all the walls in the room. The tiny bathroom (ok, I know, this place IS cheap as chips) was clean, with the exception of the taps on the wash hand basin, which were covered in soap, toothpaste, any other goo. The receptionist was happy to store a piece of equipment for me when I went out for the evening, and there were no problems picking it up at check-out.

If it were a hostel it would be acceptable but it is not good value as an hotel. The beds are uncomfortable, the floors are not clean, the bathroom was marginally clean; and I would not want the blankets to touch my body. This hotel is not just old and shabby; it is really grotty and without charm. The only positives are that the staff is very helpful and the location is good. I am a minimalist when it comes to hotels but this one does not meet my basic standards.

The Majestic Hotel is in a very good area, restaurants around, supermarkets, train station, you can not beat the location. And please don't forget this is a two stars hotel, but I thought when a hotel is two stars that means they don't provide the accommodations like a four or five stars hotel, I did not know that means the place will look so old and everything inside will be looking like is an antique. The shower did not worked good, in a various spots on the ceiling in the hotel you can see the water accumulations, the furniture inside looks like 100 years old and not in a good sense. The staff were good but when you get a big disappointment like I did, it brings you down but like I said, you get what you paid, I guess.

We realised that the hotel would be very basic considering the low cost and location (Kensington & Chelsea) but expected it to be clean and comfortable. We had very springy beds with stained (although clean) bedding. The bath had clearly not been washed and one could see daylight through the bathroom wall! We had not paid for breakfast in advance and so decided to have some and pay afterwards. I had basic cereals which were fine but my partner's 'cooked' breakfast was terrible. Cold mushrooms, no beans or tomatoes and one sausage and bacon. The worst thing was the springy, deep fried cold egg! We complained but were still charged £6.50! We are not fussy eaters but it looked entirely unappetising. We were glad to spend only one night there and were surprised if this hotel has been checked by Hotels.Com and founf acceptable by them.

London is extremely expensive and it's hard to find modestly priced hotels, but this inexpensive hotel is to be avoided. It's the first place I've stayed in where I felt my room would be broken into. The place is threadbare, shoddily built, and barely clean. The staff were actually rather nice, but that was a small compensation for the general ickiness of the place. The only thing to recommend it is its location, which was convenient for my needs, but otherwise this place is a must-avoid.

The hotel is in a good location, being within 15 minutes' walk of Gloucester Road Tube and hence direct connections to Heathrow and King's Cross. It's also right next to a large Sainsbury's, with a Waitrose and a 24 hour Tescos close. However its location and cheapness are about the only things going for it. The hotel in general is grotty, with worn carpets, peeling paint, and creaking floorboards. I had a single room, which was stuffy (though I could open the window) and had no amenities apart from the TV. The bathroom was small and the shower temperature never got above lukewarm (I don't mind that, but others would). Toilet roll, soap, and towels were provided but no other toiletries. Annoyingly, there were no surfaces (except the floor) on which to put shampoo, soap, etc when you were in the shower. If I'm staying in this area, I'd normally go for the Park International a few hundred yards closer to Gloucester Road but it was fully booked. Though the Majestic was poorer on all counts, its location was still good and the cost low, so I would consider staying here again if the Park Intl was unavailable.

The hotel was in a great part of town and near the Tube, but this is where the positives end. The rooms were tiny, the bathrooms were tiny, the carpet was ripped everywhere, and apparently the internet rate on hotels.com didn't include breakfast. It caters to European teenage groups, who tend to stay up until 02:00 a.m. banging doors and talk loudly through the paper-thin walls. I stayed there because it was cheap but in the end I got no sleep. Spend a little extra cash and go somewhere else.

The hotel is a bit shabby, and the rooms weren't exactly sparkling, but it is reasonable for those on a budget looking for somewhere to come back to after a night out. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the location made getting around simple with the nearby tube station. Recommended for a one night stay, possibly 2, but no more than that due to the bathroom, which was not as clean as I would have liked. Not dirty as such, but it had a feeling of grubbiness.

The hotel is located close to two tube stops, near Hyde Park, and has many decent places to eat and food shop. The actual hotel, on the other hand, is lacking in everything. The room was small, not an issue for one person, the TV was even smaller :-), the bed was hard as a rock. Don't, under any circumstances, let them put you in a room facing Cromwell Rd. If you are used to quiet, you'll be kept awake all night-the traffic never dies down. There is no internet access in the room, and the Internet lounge was down. The clerks at reception did not know how to smile. They were friendly enough-just enough to answer basic questions, but no personality whatsoever. The window opens-a little-and it was so warm in the hotel, I had to look outside to see what people were wearing to figure out how to dress. Basically, I felt like I was in a large coffin. Luckily, I was not in the room for long. I stayed out as long as I could and I was out by 9:30 AM. There is also a notice that if you have large items, like computers, to take them with you as they are not responsible if they are stolen. This didn't fill me with security. I wasn't about to sightsee all dat lugging my laptop along. Anyway, if you are on a budget and just need a place to crash, then this is OK. If you want ANY type of amenity, stay away.

The hotel, while being in a poor condition, was more or less what we expected from the amount of money we spent there. Its a 4 to 5 minute walk from both Earls Court and Gloucester Road tube stations, both in the sentral part in London. We only spent time sleeping and waking up there, thus we are pleased with our stay. However the maintenance of the rooms was horrible, with dust and dirt on every "non-obvious" place in the room. Sound isolation is also close to non-existant. We were unfortunate to live wall-to-wall with a german party coming home late and waking up way too early that robbed us from quite some sleep. The hotel has a key-policy as to where you leave your key on every departure from the hotel, just to reclaim it when you get back. While this also seems a bit unnecessary, we were surprised when the lady at the counter handed us our keys after we checked out (we came back to claim our luggage before heading off to the airport) without asking for any proof. Summed up its a fair hotel that suits couples traveling there on a tight economy that wants a short traveling route to the city center.
