I have stayed at the Cantlie Suites twice now and would go back again. The main draw is the location, downtown on Sherbrooke street, walking distance from shops and transport. The hotel decor is a little dated but the rooms are spotless, large and comfortable. The kitchenettes are useful for longer stays. There is a nice pool on the roof and superb city views from up there too! I noticed a lot of KLM flight crew staying there this time so it is obviously a popular choice for them. No complaints from me about the Cantlie!

For the price, I thought this hotel was a good choice. There were three of us to the room, and this was one of the hotels in this price range that had the adjoining room with a sleep sofa that made it very comfortable for three people. The only issue we had was the old television. We couldn't get it to stay on the channel we wanted. It was very tempermental and needs to be upgraded. The mezzanine cafe was very nice. The attached restaurant was too expensive for the price of the hotel.

We are frequent visitors to Montreal -- my spouse is a former Montrealer. Le Cantlie is an excellent hotel -- especially if you opt for the executive suite. All rooms come with kitchens, I believe. I recommend getting Montreal bagels and cream cheese (from St. Viateur Bagel Factory) and pastries from Premier Mousin to stock the kitchen. The latter is a cafe chain in the city. There is one just down the street from the Cantlie on Sherbrooke, past the Fine Arts Museum. The hotel is well situated (stay away from hotels around Rene Levesque St -- you get no sense of what the city is about in that convention and business area. Le Cantlie is close to McGill Univ and a block away from the Ste. Catherine St. shopping area. The Fine Arts Museum is two blocks away and a fabulous museum -- free, too, except for the special shows. As for the hotel itself: the beds are very comfortable. Rooms are well appointed. We like the suite, although it's not really a separate bedroom. You have glass doors with gauzy curtains separating the bedroom area from the living room/kitchen area. Not as private (if you've got kids or friends sleeping on the pull out couch) as one might like, but workable. Personnel are fine, if not super friendly. We do want to put in a good work for Daniel, one of the valets in the parking garage. He works the evening shift and was wonderful. He's been there as long as we've been staying at the Cantlie.

The Search For One-Eyed Jimmy. This place ROCKS!! OK, it's not the 4 quarters. Yeah, it's not even the Mary go, or a Comfort whatever. It's a block from Peel Metro, unofficial Gateway To The Universe. They park your freakin car and get it for you an hour later if you want it. Oh yeah, better leave your truck at home -- won't fit in the garage. Rooftop pooooool -- how cool are we? Tiny elevators you sometimes have to ride up to ride down -- Spend a minute with your neighbors. Small TV I never had time to watch anyway. Bathroom sink was cracked, but didn't leak my tooth paste spittle. Charm! Really friendly staff and guests. This is a hidden jewel. Not for my sister with the $10,000 ring or my neighbor the junkie. Definitely for families with small kids (us), people too old for Ronald M's house, teachers and lawyers on a budget, the overweight poet who sometimes forgets to floss, and the Chinese immigrant he married. We go stay, we stay go? Stay here!! Go! See ya there!

It was our first time traveling to the French-speaking province. We were told that people were different there. I guess we just did to think that they would be so different at this hotel, which seems to be a very international place. We heard their guests speaking Russian, Spanish and perhaps Arabic. During check-in a very pleasant receptionist would mispronounce our last name. I corrected her once thinking that it might be an honest mistake. She would mispronounce it again. I corrected her the second time and guest what? She would say it incorrectly the third time. Looked like she was just teasing us. Another time we asked a different receptionist for a good place to eat. She directed us to a street 30 minutes (walking) away from the hotel. It turns to be a very unattractive and dirty part of the city with a huge variety of “adult” stores and “adult” show. Our 8 y.o. had a lot of “fun” window shopping. We tried out faith the “last” third time. I saw a very attractive part of Montreal in the magazine and asked a receptionist where it might be. He told us that it was the French part of the town and explained how to get there. When we got there of cause it did not look like anything we were looking for (surprise-surprise). We just wasted 2 hours of our time which is a lot when you have only 2 days. After all that we gave up asking anything at the reception. PS If you do not speak French do your homework yourself.

This hotel is centrally located with easy access to restaurant and shopping area. However, if you have an SUV, the hotel parking can not accomodate you, which we find out on a rainy day. The room is nice with a good size kitchen. The bathroom is very small and definitely need a makeover. There is no gym in the hotel and the swimming pool is on the roof, which means you may not be able to use it most of the time considering the weather there. Staff is friendly and helpful.

Hotel looks and feels old and tired. Sense of decor is very dated. Checking in was crazy with way too many people for the desk to handle and for the reception area to hold. There was a wait for the extremely slow elevators. The bed was not made when we got to our room. Drains in bathrooms were slow. Must say the staff were commendably responsive when we called their attention. Location was excellent. Considering the number of other hotels in the area, I will stay elsewhere next time.

Hotel is in a very good location. While they try to really keep the rooms clean, the decor and everything about the hotel is a little dated and in serious need of updating. Our first assigned room, a king with sofa was very musty and smelly but we were reassigned a different room when we went back to the front desk and the staff were good about it. Second room was much better but we ended up getting a two queen room which less roomy. The quality of room service food left a lot to be desired. One good thing though is the staff who are nice and helpful.

This hotel was fantastic. The location is amazing- Métro was on the other side, major shopping was two streets away, and it was minutes to Vieux Montréal by Métro. The hotel staff was very efficient and knowledgeable of the area. I booked a Queen and Pull-Out bed, and the staff, for no extra cost, was able to get me two Queens without me even asking! The only downside was the parking. It's not the hotel's fault, as all of the city charges for parking. They only have a few SUV spaces available at the hotel, so the first night I had to park at the adjacent Marriott for an extra C$3. The parking price listed here was also for the day, not overnight (overnight is higher than the max day), but the spot is reserved for the duration of your stay and you can come and go as you please. Street parking is available, but it's pay during the day, and free at night. All in all, it was a minor annoyance but if you fly in and/or don't have a car, you don't have to worry about it. All in all, a fantastic hotel.

The hotel is old and outdated. There are many cracks and chips in furnitures and fixtures. Although we stayed in a suite with kitchen and dining table, we could not be comfortable in using or touching any of the appliances because it feels filthy and dirty. The bathroom has no ventilation. The matress is sunken in the middle and very uncomfortable. The cartpet is old and dirty. There is parking and wireless internet (very weak signal) with additional charges. Half of the staff are friendly. Within the same neighborhood, there are many other choices for similar price range. I would not recommend to any of my friends and families.

Rate was at or below other nearby hotels. Service was courteous, but not excellent. Location was excellent. One thing to watch out for is parking. There is no signage for parking anywhere, and nowhere to pull over and check-in to get the info. In addition, we drive an SUV and we had to park around the corner at a garage for another hotel. Parking without in/out priviledges ran us $25/day canadian. Rooms were clean and well-sized, but dated. While all rooms have nice views, the balconies have all been caulked and painted shut in last renovation, likely due to safety concerns.

We stayed in a suite for 2 nights. The location is great. The service is average. Parking is $22 after tax per night. They have a "no-party policy after 11PM" to prevent noise disturbing others, but they have loud music playing until 2AM on Saturday Night from the club on ground floor. Even with all windows closed from 5th floor, you still can hear the music clearly. The rooms definitely need major renovation and updates. The carpet must have been over 15 years old without changing and so is the sofa. The kitchen applicances are really outdated as well. You will find many chips on cracks on furnitures & fixtures throughout the room. It really gives you a feeling of dirty and filthy. The mattress isn't comfortable also due to age. There are plenty other ones in the same neighborhood for the same price range and more recently built. I would not recommend this to anyone I care for.

The location is great. The price I paid was low. They do put a hold on your credit card for incidentals (i.e., smoking in a non-smoking room). The room was a bit noisy because of our neighbors and a broken toilet that kept flushing. But other than that, the suite was great! We stayed in the executive suite. Two beds, a sofa, large large bathroom with the Tingle King shower head, small tv, dining table, and mini-kitchen. I definitely suggest Hotel Le Cantlie because of its proximity to everything in Montreal. They also have a parking lot underneath the hotel with decent rates and friendly valets. It's ABOUT 10-12 blocks to old Montreal. Though it is far from the Botanical Gardens and Biodome in the old Olympic Park, it is all within walking distance. Also very close to McGill. All in all the location and the price I got here. There were so many restaurants in the area, I asked the concierge for a recommendation. And I have to say that I was satisfied!
