Good, small hotel close to Union Square, Market and Powell Street. Regardless from the central location very quiet

very convenient location, excellent accomodation and breakfast together with the wine and cheese "get together" each evening. Staff very helpful and knowledgeable. Very good value for money and would not hestitate to stay again. No view from room windows, but not an issue.

This is a jewel in the crown hotel with a great location right in the centre. It is nicely furnished, clean, tidy and comfortable. The service and custommer care is superb, with curtesy fruits, biscuits and with wine tasting on every other level in the evenings and with a simple but nice continental breakfast in the mornings. Don't let a first negative impression of a tiny insignificant looking reception area out you off. It is truly worth your stay in every respect.

The Good: Very friendly staff. Bathroom very nice. Bed was sagging, but when asked they replaced the mattress with a smile. Good breakfasts. Needs Improvement: No A/C which probably isn't a problem most of the time in SF, but I like it quite cool. Iron could use replacement and ironing boards are low.

I stayed for only one night at this hotel which is conveniently situated on the edge of Union Square and thus in the heart of San Francisco's theatre district. As a single female traveller I am concerned about security and this appeared to be excellent. I had been upgraded to a suite which was equipped with every comfort. There is a good business centre and when I encountered a slight technical problem help was immediately available. Ann, the concierge could not have been more helpful with good suggestions on where to eat and excellent directions. My only slight reservations are that the decor is slightly faded while American guests might find the double bed (of which there was only one) on the small side. This hotel represents excellent value for money, particularly when one considers that a very good continental breakfast is included as well as wine and snacks in the evening.

The front desk support staff were always extremely friendly and happy to see you. In addition they were very quick to help out with finding & printing directions, meal reservations or anything else we could ask for. The evening time chocolate chip cookies at the end of the hallway were also a nice touch. We completely enjoyed our stay at this hotel

This hotel was really comfortable and clean. Staff were friendly and welcoming. The quality of the food at breakfast was exceptional and there was wine, cheese, fruit, soda etc. in the evenings. We were upgraded to a suite which was good because I was staying with my son and could only afford a room with a double bed in San Francisco. Overall we enjoyed ourselves at this hotel and would definitely recommend and return.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The staff was incredibly friendly and knew who we were. The food was excellent, and all the guests were more than friendly. The hotel was very clean and very comfortable. Have already recommended it and will again!

We rarely contribute to hotel reviews, although we use them to decide where to stay, but we are making an exception for the Inn. The standard of service deserves to be highly commended, from the complementary breakfast to the free cheese and wine in early evening. The latter proved a great opportunity to meet other guests and swap stories. The staff, especially Wayne, were extremely helpful. One of the best hotels we have stayed at, in terms of value for money.

We like to stay in smaller hotels when we travel and avoid the crowds....the Inn at Union Square is just delightful...lovely little lobbies on each floor...and wonderful breakfasts and wine/hor dourves hour. Very European style....Also got wonderful restaurant recommendations from the innkeeper. Room was ample in space. Also very centrally located to major shopping and the Bart lines. We will be back.

This hotel is perfect for those who wish to be in a quiet, friendly environment in the midst of a busy city with all the facilities on the doorstep. A passing traveller might find the small lobby rather uninspiring, but a courteous and cheery greeting soon dispels any doubts. There are five rooms on each of the six floors, all located at the back of the hotel - hence the tranquility. Our room was smaller than our previous hotel in Chicago, but extremely comfortable and clean. Breakfast is included and can be taken in the small lobby on each floor, or carried to your room. Guests are invited to a complime tary cheese, wine and nibbles each evening in the lobby. Two bottles of water and chocolates are delivered to each room daily. There is free internet access. The staff cannot do enough for you. The hotel is situated a few yards from Union Square and a short walk from the tramline. I would thoroughly recommend this hotel, especially to single travellers wishing to meet like minded people.

Myself and my partner stayed at The Inn from May 5th to 10th '09. The location of this hotel is absoluely perfect. It's on post street just off union square, so its lovely and quiet but really near everytihng. From the moment we arrived at the hotel we felt really welcome. All of the staff were really lovely and couldn't do enough to help. The continental brekkie in the morning was great, as was the cheese and wine reception in the evening even though we only made it once for a few minutes. I would definitely go back here and would recommend it to anyone. If I had to say something bad it would be that our mattress was very soft and kind of dipped in the middle so it could probably do with being changed. The room could also have done with a new carpet as there were a few stains on it. Overall though room was lovely, with Aveda products in the bathroom and I would definitely recommend it!

Since we were only staying for one night on our way to NY I wanted somewhere nice and centrally located. I loved how it was a boutique hotel and not a huge business hotel. Friendly staff, nicely decorated, great continental breakfast. Disappointed we missed the wine tasting but had a friend meeting us at same time. Bedroom was small but they upgraded us to a 1 bedroom king suite so we had a living room which was great to have our friends visit us in. We had our 3 month old with us and staff were accomodating. Hotel is in a great location right next to Union Square. The continental breakfast had a great selection but you either have to eat in your room or a different floor as there is one table by the food only.

this is one of the lovliest hotels we have stayed in, so many extra touches to make out stay there so special - evening cheese and wine, friendly helpful staff, delicious breakfast. I would strongly recommend

For the price that was paid, it was really a great value. The location was excellent, when you consider that we were in the downtown area near many galleries, museums, theaters, and fine restuarants. And Chinatown is only about four blocks away, and Fisherman's Wharf is about a mile away. As a word of advice, don't let the staff park your car for you, there's a fairly reasonable garage for you to leave your car that's about a block away. Also, at night when you go out walking around, beware of all the people -- poor people and drug users alike -- who will approach you for money. They would not leave my wife and I alone, when we were trying to enjoy our honeymoon.

Quaint little hotel right on Union Square. Easy to get to from international airport. great access to everything you might want to visit. Great restaurants all round. Avis car hire 100 metres away if need a car. Hotel well maintained. Very sociable breakfasts and a lovely little wine and cheese event every evening. Great for picking up tips on things to do from other guests. Would recommend highly.

This is a very high quality hotel. I would recommend it to anyone. Further it has a great intimacy to it and the staff goes out of their way to make you feel like it's your home.

Great location, breakfast, wine happy hour, staff and overall hotel and room condition.

At first glance, this Inn didn't impress much, but was pleasantly suprised once I got settled in. The front staff was very nice and helpful and the room was a pretty good size; much bigger than I was expecting from the outer appearance. The hallways are pretty narrow but it wasn't a problem. The room had a window, but don't expect any views from it. The hotel is nicely situated just off of Union Square which means you could walk to alot of different things, plus the mass transit is very close if you wanted to go to other parts of the city. I'd definately recommend this as a lower cost alternative to other hotels in the immediate area. There isn't the frills of a larger hotel but I spend most of the time out of the hotel so that wasn't important. It also has free wireless which was nice.

The Inn at Union Square is a quaint little hotel in downtown San Francisco. It was immaculate. The staff was very helpful and extremely pleasant. We really enjoyed our stay.

My wife and I just completed a 5 night stay here. Here are the highlights. PRO's: The location is ideal: on the corner of Post & Powell just off Union Square. The closest BART is Powell Station, about 3-4 blocks away & 25 min. ride from SFO. Chinatown is 3-4 blocks away and the hotel is on several major bus lines. Shopping and great restaurants abound as Union Square is the heart of the city. We interacted with 6 different staff - all very warm, engaging, and very helpful with bus routes, local attractions, etc. We enjoyed the complimentary breakfasts (hard boiled eggs, 5-6 breads w/jams, cereals, OJ & coffee, pastries, etc). The Inn also has a complimentary wine/happy hour from 5pm - 7pm every night on two separate floors. The self serve HH is very generous and includes 4 bottles of wine (2 reds/2 whites), 3 cheeses, dozens of crackers, fresh fruit, nuts and other sweets. Small business center with complimentary internet access, telephone, and free printer for hotel guests. Rooms have LCD flat screen TV's with lots of cable & premium channels. CON's: The Inn has no lobby and the complimentary breakfasts & HH's occur at the end of a hallway on two floors, just enough room for a small table a few chairs. Meeting friends and socializing with other guests can be challenging but still worth it. The rooms are typical in size for a big city hotel, small but cozy. May be a turn off for more than two people. Our bed seemed a little old and bowed in the middle. Overall: Ideal hotel w/great staff and nice perks with a location that you can't beat for the price. Shop around and you may find a competitive rate, particularly in the off-season like we did. Will definitely stay here again. A word of caution: the Tenderloin neighborhood begins about 5 blocks West of the Inn. Like any big city, it can be a little gritty at night. The area immediately around the Inn is safe and very busy with activity.

Hotel staff were very friendly and genuinely helpful. Room was a little small, but we expected that in the heart of San Francisco. The room overlooked a brick wall but we were only there to sleep and everything else was brilliant. Complementary breakfast and evening nibbles, wine/soft drinks were very much appreciated and added a little extra to the whole experience. Would definitely go back!

Low price for an A+ location. Friendly staff and clean rooms.

Hotel id like a B&B (31 rooms) great wine and cheese hour and continental breakfast. Staff is very friendly and accommodating. Great location-close to Chinatown, downtown, theaters and transportation. Would definitely stay here again.

This hotel was very clean, had nice Aveda products, and a nice continental breakfast each morning. This wasn't luxury by any means, but it was well priced for the location. Even in the suite room, the room was fairly small, although it did have a nice sitting area with flat screen TVs.

Great location, really helpful and nice staff. Communual area for breakfast is small but can take it back to your room. They do cheese and wine gratis every night and we met some great people staying at the hotel at these.

Great location one block from Union Square. Very quiet. No large crowds or waiting for check in / out.

The Continental Breakfast was very good, but the room it was served in was quite small and therefore, crowded when more than one couple was there at the same time. We were upgraded to a suite for no additional charge and it was wonderful, so we don't know about the regular rooms.

The hotel stay was great. The room was decent size, but clean and very comfortable. Staff was great. We stayed on 3rd floor (302) and room was near the continental breakfast area which was convenient. The hotel also had a wine and cheese happy hour every night between 5-7pm. Also had free wifi and LCD flat screen. It was a great stay and right in the middle of everything and close to transportation. I would stay there again if ever back in the city.

The rooms were cute and well proportioned. The bed was very comfortable. The location was excellent. The price was great. The wine and cheese event allowed us to meet fellow travellers. That was fun. I'd stay there again.

My wife and I stayed here 3 nights, went to the wine county and returned for 4 nights. Except for a small shower in room 602, this was PERFECT! The staff was extremely friendly, especially Omar who made sure we were satisfied AND made sure we would come back. The night staff was warm, welcoming, and on top of their game. One of the night guys called and said that he noticed we were checking out tomorrow and asked if we needed a shuttle or cab when we headed for the airport. The wine/cheese reception was a nice touch and breakfast was great! We would give the Inn at Union Square a 10, but the score only goes to five!

This hotel was cozy, updated, and in a great location. The staff was friendly and helpful and the free breakfast and free "happy hour" wine service was a nice touch. The downside was the bathroom-especially the shower. The bathroom was not very clean (hair on the floor) and the shower was moldy and outdated. The positioning of the showerhead was weird - the water sprayed right into your face and the nozzle was not adjustable. Very akward and unsanitary to shower in.

Bed was comfortable and service was exemplary. The breakfast was nice and the evening wine tastings were a nice touch and a way to talk to some other visitors. Room was clean and comfortable. My only complaints were that the room was small and the shower was extremely small.

Great location, people, breakfast and snacks!!! Only complaint is small room, didn't even mind the small room but not enough room for 2 large suitcases without moving furniture. (should offer second suitcase holder) Overall we loved it and if ever back to SF would stay same hotel. Thanks!

Small quaint hotel with wonderful service. Located less than 50 yards from the cable car pick up and Union Square. The hotel had a continental breakfast every morning, which exceeded our expectations in its offering. It also had a wine and cheese hour every evening. Hotel was quiet from street noise, even though it was in the heart of all the action. We were very pleased.

When we arrived at 11pm to check in we were greeted very warmly and immediately made to feel at home. Lovely staff throughout. The hotel is very narrow and so the "breakfast room" is merely an inbuilt kitchen at the end of the corridor, with one set of table and chairs but there are trays available to take the breakfast into your room. In the evening there's also a very nice, informal (quality) wine reception with wonderful cheeses and dried fruit. The room itself was cosy and decorated "european style", i.e. red and gold with cute decorations and mirrors. Our room was good sized (queen bed) and given the way the hotel spread's out to the back in between other buildings the view was that off roofs but it was very quiet! The location too is unbeatable, just off Union square and a 10 min walk to the main tram stop. Would go back immediately!

Great small hotel with nicely furnished rooms,nice expanded continental breakfast. Hotel staff was very friendly and able to guide us to things to see and where to sign up for wine country tour. They also recommended the purchases of the Muni unlimited day pass that was great. Will definitely stay there again on next trip and have recommended to others.
