Excelsior Hotel - New York

Wir hatten ein Zimmer im 15. OG. mit einem wunderbaren Blick über die Stadt. Viele Zimmer gehen allerdings in kleine Innenhöfe. Das Frühstück ist nicht zu empfehlen. Aber es gibt Coffeeshops in der Umgebung. Die Betten waren gut, das Bad sehr funktional unsd sauber. Das Hotel scheint vor 1-2 Jahren grundüberholt zu sein. In der Columbus Ave und in der Amsterdam Ave gibt es ausreichend kleine Restaurants und die Subway ist auch gleich um die Ecke.

Die Lage am Central Park ist perfekt; U-Bahnstation direkt vor der Tür, 5 Minuten mit der Bahn zum Times Square; zentral und doch nicht mitten im Gewühle und Lärm.

Das Hotel ist ein guter Ausgangspunkt um New York zu besichtigen. Metro und Bus sind direkt beim Hotel. Die Lage ist für New Yorker Verhältnisse trotzdem als eher ruhig zu bezeichnen, da der Central Park in direkter Nähe ist und die Strasse vor dem Hotel nicht so stark befahren ist. Das Hotel selbst hat Fühstücksmöglichkeit und ein Restaurant. Allerdings gibt es in der direkten Umgebung auch viele andere gute Möglichkeiten. Auch der Columbus Circle ist nur zwei Stationen mit der Metro entfernt. Viele Shops und Restaurants. Die Zimmer und -Ausstattung im Hotel sind sehr unterschiedlich. Vom 16 Stock hat man eine tolle Aussicht über die Stadt. Hier sollte man beim Checkin versuchen das beste zu erreichen.

Das "Excelsior" ist ein "altes" Hotel im besten Sinne, will heißen, es hat Stil. Gebaut in den 20-ern, 1999 rekonstruiert, hat es nichts von dem sterilen Ambiente üblicher Hotelketten. 1999 konnten wir noch auf dem Dach die Aussicht genießen, das ist jetzt leider nicht mehr möglich. Für Gäste, die es gern etwas bequemer haben wollen, wird in der 2. Etage Continental oder Full American Breakfast angeboten. Die Lage unmittelbar am Central Park ist phantastisch, eine Subway Station nur wenige Minuten entfernt.

Hotel ist in Ordnung. der Preis ist für New York ok, ansonsten völlig überzogen. Zimmer sind klein. Lage ist gut, da dicht am Central Park und alle Museen (Guggenheim, Frick etc.) sind zu Fuß zu erreichen. Personal ist freundlich. Hotel ist empfehlenswert, verschlägt einem aber nicht den Atem.

When we arrived at the hotel we were met by a very friendly and helpful Bell Captain who took our luggage and took us to the reception desk. The hotel is an older hotel and the decore in the reception area is in keeping with this, everything is very clean and nice. The elevators were very quick and a good size. The corridors and the room itself are clean but in needs of a refurbishment. Everything, whilst clean, is old and dated. There were no Tea or Coffee making facilities in the room and the rooms do not have air con. The area around the hotel is very nice and there are quite a few restaurants in the area to choose from as well as deli and supermarkets to pick stuff up from. There is a subway station at the end of the block. I was glad I got a good price for the hotel and it was probably about worth what I paid for it. I would not have been pleased if I had paid full price for this as even for New York I would have been over charged. That being said, I would stay at this hotel again if I got a good deal on the price as it is perfectly acceptable.

The bed was excellent. The room was quiet as requested. Will stay here again if the price is discounted again.

Beautiful, cozy and comfortable. Staff was friendly and gracious. Neighborhood is outstanding.

Our room, while small, had a fabulous view overlooking the Natural History Museum and (perhaps more important to me) it had an extremely comfortable bed with luxurious bedding. The bathroom was well appointed with amenities, and the water pressure in the shower was awesome. My husband found the room awfully small and was disappointed with the easy chair in the room, which he found too small to be comfortable. But I'd stay here again, in a heartbeat.

We just got back from 5 nights at the Excelsior Hotel. The room was very nice, clean, and quiet. It is located near the subway, Central Park and the Natural History Museum. It is quite a walk to the main sites, but I liked the fact that it was safe and quiet there. We walked to the Metropolitan Art Museum (20 minute walk through Central Park) and walked alot of places from there. The only downside was that there was no coffee maker or refrigerator.We walked to Starbucks , H and H, and Zabar's 2 blocks away to get breakfast. We got a great price through the internet and would stay there again.

The breakfast room is beautiful. It was a pleasure to have breakfast there.

Used this hotel as only a place to sleep for 1 night. Wasn't expecting that much out of it, but the hotel exceed my expectations. Nice staff, clean rooms, very nice bathrooms and suites are reasonably sized for a NYC hotel. Parked across the street at the museum and with hotel validation, payed the least amount for parking I ever have in NYC. Overall great experience at this hotel would recommend to anyone.

Very nice Hotel and will stay there next time I go to New York.

Great Location but concierge was ill informed. We received parking ticket and had our car towed after directly asking them what a No standing sign meant. We were told taxis couldn't wait there but we could park. WRONG!!!!! Cost us $415. They also charged $2.00 for a cup of coffee in the morning and no weekend paper was available. The room -- leaked in the rain.

We loved our stay at the Excelsior. It was "so New York" -built pre-war but kept up so nicely. The a/c had a little trouble keeping up but it was hot there. Great location - close to subway and Central Park. We would definitely stay there again.

This hotel was perfect for our needs: comfortable well-kept rooms, very near museums, subway, park, and affordable places to eat. Parking was available at Museum of Natural History. Our mini-vacation went off without a hitch.

Sunny & pretty room. Very clean! Helpful and pleasant staff. Comforters on bed were a bit too heavy. Would definitely stay here again.

I was given a room with two twin beds. No where on the web site does it show that. Only double and queen size beds. Very disappointing

The hotel is clean and comfortable and in a great upper west side neighborhood close to the subway and lots of great restaurants and shops.

Bedroom and sitting room - great for families. Exceptional location - across from the Nat History Museum and Central Park: many, many restaurants within several blocks; subway within a block. We would definitely stay there again.

Clean and well-maintained, the hotel was a positive addition to our visit to NYC. A short walk to the subway station was another plus. Great location. Deli across the street is also a great value for eating. Got some great sandwiches and saved huge over a sit down meal at a restaurant.

I had a good stay. The room was clean, quiet and is in a good location.

The air conditioning was defective and the staff was difficult when we asked for help. We would not book here again.

If you appreciate the charm of older hotels, you'll love the Excelsior. The lobby is full of antiques and mirrors and the rooms have charm but have been updated- particularly the bathrooms - to fully meet modern needs. There is a new restaurant adjacent which we didn't go to but which looks excellent and is highly rated.

This is a wonderful hotel, clean room, good beds, nice bathroom and great location. However the AC was not sufficent during a very muggy stay.

Our hotel stay was very pleasant. the neighborhood is more residential, which makes it quiet and pleasant for walking and window shopping. However, for those who have business on the lower number streets, it's quite a hike and certainly can necessitate a taxi. The price was great and the morning breakfast option is reasonable and adequate. We'd definately stay again if the price was similiar.

I loved this hotel. There were lovely little amenities and the place felt like a home away from home. The staff was very helpful and the breakfast was reasonably priced. Great shops and restaurants in the area and across from the Park and Museum make this an ideal location for tourists. Looking forward to staying again.

My husband and I stayed here regrettably for only one night. Lynn at the front desk was extremely helpful, prompt and courteous. Pierre the doorman, and Joe the van driver were also friendly and helpful to us. The parking was easy and the cheapest out of all the hotels I investigated. It was only $26 a day to park. However, we were 30 minutes late and they charged us the full $26 for a second day. SO BE FOREWARNED! But I really didnt mind it too much because most other hotels in Manhattan charge between $50 and $60 a day to park anyways. This is a wonderful hotel and very reasonable priced for the area.

This is one of the best bargins in NYC. The hotel itself is charming and the rooms, if a bit shabby, are large, clean and well-supplied with amenities. The staff provides better than five-star service.

The location and price cannot be beat. The hotel is clean & nice. I requested a queen room & was given a twin and was told that if I reserved through another website (like hotels.com) that they would not guarantee the room type -watch out for that.

Thoroughly enjoyed our 2 night stay at the Excelsior Hotel. My daughter and I arrived Friday afternoon by car. We were promptly checked in, the employees at the front desk were very helpful, we parked our car at the museum parking across the street. The room was clean, smelled nice, the bathroom was a larger then expected and we had no complaints. We were on the sixteenth floor with a beautiful view of the city. Definately a hotel that I would stay in again! Thank you.

Best hotel experience I've ever had in NYC. Perfect location, quiet, spacious room, helpful staff. What's not to like?

Up graded us to a Jr. Suite which had a really big bedroom and beautiful, if small spotless white embossed hand painted tile bathroom. Nice furniture, quite new, or at least not worn at all. The view unfortunately was of the airshaft. They should have mentioned that at check-in but we were so happy with the extra space that we didn't mind. The wonderful doormen were extremely friendly and helpful which helped make up for the unsmiling desk staff. They did give us a nice early check-in, and a slightly later check out. It was great to have continental breakfast right at the hotel. I didn't think ten dollars was bad. It was set up in a lovely room on the second floor with lots of dark wood and nice furniture, like a private men's club. Again, a smile from the woman in charge would have been pleasant. I knew there was no coffeepot in the room so I brought a small one which fit well into the deep tile window sill in the bathroom. Big terry bathrobes are included. I did peak around when the maids were cleaning and it did look as though the rooms with a view were smaller and of course brighter. It was nice though, that my husband was able to go into the other room and read when he objected to my choice of TV shows.

Very convenient location to many of the sites and access to public transit system. I encourage walking around the neighborhood to find many nice pubs and restaurants. The staff were friendly and courteous. We definitely recommend the hotel.

With validated parking at the American Museum of Natural History,a subway stop less than a block from the door and the M79 bus in walking distance this has to be the best hotel value in NYC. Great neighbor hood restaurants add to the value.

Great location, safe, close to central park and museums, subway. Recc. Isabellas restaurant around the corner. Hotel staff not the friendliest, but not the worst either. Parking is in Museum of Natural History Garage immed across from hotel, convenient.
