Bewertet von A aus Belfast am Sep 12, 2009
Was very impressed with hotel for location - right in the middle of loop, close to river and Michigan Avenue and all major attractions were within walking distance. Was a bit worried by some of the reviews I had read with regard to reception staff and elevators - have to say my whole party found staff to be very friendly - always a good morning or good evening when walking thru reception. They went out of their way to accomodate an unusual request from one of our party for potato peelings (long story) but was dealt with without a problem! As for the elevators, we experienced no problems - don't think 12 seonds to the 26th floor is an issue. The recent addition of a small bar to the hotel with an outdoor patio area was appreciated. The only slight improvement needed would be in the bathrooms. All in all I would recommend this hotel both for its location and size of rooms.

Bewertet von Nejla aus Irvine, am Sep 9, 2009
We got an upgraded room, which was absolutely great, both the room and the bathroom. room was very spacey and we had the King premier with River view, wow the view was so nice! You actually see the river, which is beautiful specially at night with some nice buildings. we were on 10th floor and had no problem with the elevator as I read on some reviews. So I have to say we got lucky with the whole experience. The hotel service was great, the only thing they absolutely need an improvement is to have a bar and lounge. The restaurant was pretty boring too. Sometimes when you are tired you just like to spend time in the lounge of the hotel and not worried about waiting in line. I will stay in another hotel next time, just for that reason, but I was happy with anything else.

This is a great hotel in an outstanding location. The rooms are larger than most hotels because the building was designed as a condo. You can walk to just about everything from this hotel, and it's convenient to public transportation too. If you want to be in the middle of it all, I can't think of a better place to stay in Chicago.

this is a really nice hotel. it was once a really very nice hotel - but it's interior decorating is the model of hip 10 years ago (think those bubble shaped couches they used to have at starbucks). but the location is fantastic, the service is good, the room's are big and clean, the bedding is nice...and the prices they're offering these days are a steal.

The staff was exceptionally helpful - provided an umbrella when I forgot mine, and even had a refrigerator delivered to our room when we had dinner leftovers one night. The kitchen staff graciously reheated for us the next day. My only suggestion would be that each room have a frig and microwave. Beautiful room furnishings, great view of the river and the downtown area. We would stay here again.

The view from our hotel was amazing...I am glad that we did the upgrade for the river view. They did not tell us that we would be charged per night for parking though. When I got the bill, that was a big bummer. Overall, I thought the rooms would be bigger, but we didn't spend much time there anyways.

The hotel is in need of some renovations. The carpeting and the furniture were quite worn. Not only could we hear conversations easily from the hallway, but they had an event going on in the ballroom above, so we could hear pounding music until 12:30 in the morning. The one and only saving grace for this hotel is that the location is fanastic.

The location of the hotel was great a few blocks from "the bean and park, across the street from the Chicago river, and trolley's to Navy Pier. The rooms were a good size and clean. There were only 2 elevators going to the upper floors. One of the elevators was out for several hours, causing over a 20 minute wait for the elevators or a long walk up the stairs 10+ flights, or craming into the full elevator and making new friends. All and all a good stay.

We were very impressed with Hotel 71. The price was reasonable, the rooms where comfortable, and the staff was friendly and helpful. The hotel was situated right in the heart of the downtown area (the loop) and was close to all the attractions (water tower, parks, museums, ballparks). Though the hotel does not have a restaurant, there are many eating establishments in the area and it is situated close to bus lines and trains that can get you anywhere in the city in just minutes. The front desk staff was helpful in giving directions and suggested great eating establishments in the area. We stayed at the hotel for two days, then were fortunate enough to be able to stay at a friend's house in Oak Park. On the day of our departure, the hotel let us store our baggage for a few hours before catching the train to the airport, saving us over an hour in travel time. One of the big advantages of staying at this hotel was being able to take the subway to the loop and walk about three blocks to the hotel. The Hotel 71 is easily assessable from both Midway and O'Hare airports by subway. Besides, you can purchase a 1,3,5,or 7 day pass for the subway and bus system at the airport which was the most convenient for us. We had a great visit to the beautiful city of Chicago and will surely use the Hotel 71 again on our next trip.

We stayed in the unrenovated area of the hotel. The halls smelled very musty. The bathroom didn't have a fan in it. Very sheer drapes so it was very light in the morning, even though we faced west. The staff was great and I would recommend it to people who aren't used to places like the Ritz!

Bewertet von Ron aus Peoria am Aug 18, 2009
Last weekend we were in Chicago to celebrate our wedding anniversary & stayed 2 nights at Hotel 71. By far the best asset of the hotel is its location -- easy walking distance to the theater district, could catch either a bus or boat tour a block away, & has a nice outdoor ambiance with outdoor cafes/restaurants all around. However, our room on the 38th floor, though quite clean, had a tired look about it -- an old TV, a chipped drawer, a non-working security lock chain, & stains in the bath tub. I asked for a remodeled room (a reviewer's recommendation)upon check-in but was told none were available. Also the AC at high fan & maximum cooling ran non-stop but did not cool off the room adequately. The vent's location in the corner of the room away from the bed/bathroom area probably had something to do with its efficiency. There are also only 2 elevators, so the wait was a problem at times. There was a wedding reception going on Sat. night in the ballroom, which is 2 floors above our floor. The music could be heard in our room, especially the irritating bass. Even with ear plugs, that bass came through. On a positive note, the help staff was very cordial & available. Valet parking was $43 a night, probably an average rate in Chicago. Would have been nice to have a self-parking option though! I'd stay here again but only in a remodeled room with a better functioning AC.

Front desk was friendly at check in. View from room was outstanding...couldn't have been any better. We were given a handicapped room, which was fine, but there was minimal furniture. A few blocks from the Orange Line, we were able to catch the train to Hotel 71 from Midway airport. It was pretty late but felt safe throughout our ride into the city. We were able to get a great room except that it was a smoking room; which we did not prefer. It was a corner room with the river view and city view....we could not give it up. The room aired out nicely; didn't smell smoke the rest of our stay except for in the hallway. Staff was friendly and attentive; very professional. The price was right for our stay. The negative: We had reserved a room with 2 beds. Upon arrival we were told that the hotel was booked to capacity and no 2 bed rooms were available, only rooms with 1 king size bed. Therefore I requested a cot for my 13yr. old grandson. I was told that a cot would cost $30 additional a night. After protesting the cot charge, the manager agreed not to charge me for the cot. Also the view from the 9th floor (City View) was awful. See gazed out at the back alley and trash dumpters of surrounding bldgs. The positive: The hotel and rooms were very clean. It appeared to have been recently remolded. The responce to any housekeeping needs was immediate. Great location near resturants and shopping, tour buses, and tour boats.

Got 3 day CTA pass for $14-unlimited use of bus and subway. Purchased ours at an Osco/Jewell store--heard they are also available at Chicago Cultural center and some CVS pharmacies.
