Hotel Du Fort - Montreal

Old and not in the nicest part of town Microwave was defect, room were not cleaned up on the 1st day, the safe was broken. Pretty poor, I will not go there again

I think the headline says it all, but let's get into some detail anyway. The room was just great. It was really big and included a safety deposit box, table and two sitting chairs, make-up desk. There was plenty of space to hang or put away the clothes and the bath was big too. Everything was very clean. Staff was very nice and helpful, too. The hotel is located in the middle of Metro stations Atwater and Guy-Concordia. There's a supermarket, pharmacy and post office within 3 minutes walking distance. As there is always something wrong with every hotel here are three minor things for the Hotel Du Fort: breakfast not included (buffet offered at the hotel though for a very reasonable surcharge, but we'd recommend checking out some of the many breakfast places in the city anyway); internet is only available at a surcharge; the area around the hotel is a bit rundown (the hotel definitely is not! And the area is safe and close to downtown). We can recommend this hotel without hesitation.

Gutes Hotel in guter Lage.

Ein sehr nettes Hotel mit sehr hilfsbereitem Personal. Etwas gewöhnungsbedürftig ist die Klimaanlage (nicht gerade superleise) im Zimmer. Für Selbstversorger ideal gelegen, da Supermarkt, Post, etc direkt um die Ecke. Die Metro ist gut zu erreichen.

Good location. Clean and comfortable rooms. The front desk staff could not care less that you're there. Eye contact takes remarkable effort. No bathroom hairdryer. One-computer "business center" closes by 11pm. Proof required beyond the booking printout that you qualify for a breakfast coupon.

I booked a room that Hotels.com called a premier suite. It really was a large 2 room suite with a king bed as promised and a kitchenette. Two flat screen tv,s cd player, safe, coutch, comfy furniture,..... this made our first 5 days in Montreal totally pleasant. The location was convieniet to the metro and tons of interesting restaurants just down the street. We walked all over and had a great time. The desk staff was very helpful. We had the kitchen so we did not buy the breakfast buffet. This was the best value on our trip.

Hotel Du Fort is right in the center of downdown Montreal. Anyone who is not familiar with Montreal, the comparison could be merely been staying right on 5th avenue of NYC. Everything is in walking distance, shops, restaurants, and even supermarkets. The hotel staff were very friendly and we did have a small fire within the building on our second night there at 3am. But the fire was quickly resolved within 2 hours and gave us a free breakfast comp. The room itself is extremely close and the cleaning staff are very professional and friendly as well. The walls within each rooms are very solid and thick, we cannot hear the neighbors whatsoever nor the traffic in downtown. We would definitely stay here again if we ever were to visit Montreal again. The only negative part of the hotel is that nothing is free. If you wanted to use WiFi, it's $10/day, if you wanted to park your car in the garage, it's $17/day and no free breakfast neither. overall, I give it a solid A

The hotel was centrally located and close to the subway which was great. When we first arrived there was an smell of body order that permeated the lobby, elevator and hallways in the hotel. We attributed it to the very warm and humid day. Once we requested a reservation be made by the front desk. I think they were a little put out by the request. One morning we had breakfast in our room, and put the sign out for service. Our dirty dishes were left in the sink. None of the supplies (except shampoo in a dispenser on the wall, and one additional coffee) were refilled. I think I was most dissapointed by the fact that the first night we sat on the curb from 2am - 5am due to a fire in the building next to us. No one apologized for the inconvenience or even spoke to us about it. I wasn't expecting monetary compensation, but someone acknowledging or discomfort would have been nice.

hotel is great. the staff is great. the breakfast is great. the parking is ???? I guess assuming the lot could handle a honda suv with kayaks on it was wrong for me to do. it was a problem to find a place that could accomodate me. Oh well, life is never easy!!!

Good location with clean rooms and a great staff. Certainly worth the money.

I was very impressed with the hotel staff. Everyone--including the maids etc--were bi-linguial, very friendly, and so willing to be helpful. There were restaurants close by & markets as well. The underground parking at the hotel was well worth every dollar since parking on the street in the city is difficult. I would definitely consider this hotel again.

Handy location and super staff, always extending themselves for their guests.

My 14 yr. old daughter & I stayed at Hotel Du Fort for 4 days & 3 nights in the summer of 2009. After extensive research on the internet, this one seemed to have everything I was looking for. The location was about 6 blocks away from Crescent St. were there are lots of places to eat. Also the main shopping street, Ste-Catherine Street, met our hotel street. The rooms were extremely clean as well as the bathroom. We were on the 15th floor and had a fantastic view of the city! They had a summer sale going on, so we got our room at a reduced rate! The beds were comfy and we had a sitting area with a table & 2 chairs. There was also a small kitchenette in a closet with a microwave, sink, small fridge too. There was also a vanity table with a light up mirror! **The only thing I advise is: call the hotel in advance and ask about their wifi policy. We were told that every room is wifi capable, but when we got there we had to pay ten dollars per 24 hrs. of wifi service** That's the only thing that I was not pleased about, because most hotels these days offer Free wifi. But overall, we had a wonderful stay and the front desk staff was very helpful and polite and called me a cab when I was leaving. I would definitely stay there again!

I would recommend this hotel to everyone! The staff were friendly and incredibly helpful. The hotel is beautiful with glorious views of the city.

The Hotel Du Fort is located close to many night clubs and restaurants. Rooms are big and clean. Hotel service was excellent.

Great location just downtown, not too bad price and great service. In my opinion breakfast was too expensive, but the hotel is so close to many restaurants and bars that it didn't matter. Great time!

We stayed at Hotel Du Fort for 4 nights in June. We enjoyed our stay very much. The hotel is close to a popular street(St. Catherine)which had a lot of resturants, stores, and things to do at night. It is also close to Guy-Concordia or the Atwater stop on the Metro which made it easy to get around. The hotel staff is very friendly and helpful and speak English well. The room was large, had a lovely bathroom, and we truly enjoyed having the kitchenette in the room as well. There is grocery storeand an internet cafe right across the street too.This hotel is great!

The hotel is very nice for the money. They also upgraded me to a suite from a regular room for only $15 more a night. The front desk staff was very accomodating.

My first impression was wrong. It seemed like the hotel was in a seedy neighborhood and I was a little put off. It turned out to be great. There were very good restaurant choices in the neighborhood and easy access to the Metro. I would readily go back.

it was very clean and big for a hotel room. the decor was a little outdated and the bedding wasnt very comfortable. the buffet breakfast wasnt worth the price. the staff were very nice and the location was very convenient.

This is a great hotel in the middle of downtown Montreal within walking distance of many things. The rooms were very nice and the hotel was a reasonable price. Excellent!

The Hotel du Fort is clean, comfortable, and convenient to many Montreal attractions. The desk staff is pleasant and competent. English-speaking guests may wish to know that the hotel is just down the street from the AMC Forum, Montreal's largest English-language movie theater. The hotel is also convenient to the museums and boutiques on Sherbrooke, and is close to Concordia University and not far from McGill. A good, reasonably priced bet.

Staying at Hotel du Fort was extremely pleasant. We got a really good rate (because I'm sure people don't visit quite as much during the frigid Montreal winters). The room was much bigger than expected with a kitchenette (sink, fridge, microwave). There was a small sitting area, two full beds, a vanity, and desk in our room. We had a small problem with the lights in our room (they didn't work) but we were promptly switched to a different room on the same floor. Housekeeping came every day and turned over our sheets. The concierge was very helpful in answering our questions. The front desk employees were hospitable, friendly, and helpful. The location of the hotel is also 2 blocks from two different metro stops and close to many restaurants. There is also a Overall, my weekend in Montreal was very nice.

My girlfriend and I upgraded to a bigger room for an extra 20$ a night and it was worth it in the end. Parking is an extra $17 a night in an adjacent garage. The room had a great view of the city being on the 14th floor. One of the evening concierge's was extremely helpful (can't remember his name, he had glasses) and was great to chat with about Quebec. There was a market, bars, and a 24-hour internet cafe all within two minutes walking distance. I would recommend, no problems.

My wife and I spent the weekend here and were very pleased. The Front Desk and Concierge made great suggestions for restuarants and travel methods. The suite was very comfortable, even with the somewhat dated furniture. The area surrounding the hotel is good, with grocery and drug stores very close. We walked everywhere, including to the Bell Centre on Saturday night.

Hotel did not find our reservation number and service was slow in fixing our problem. Location is convenient and in the end things worked out

A little difficult to get to, but once there, it was very convenient to many restaurants, tourists spots and the metro station. The hotel staff was very nice and helpful. Overall, a great stay.

we have stayed here many times and we have never had a disappointing stay. we highly recommend the hotel. breakfast is worth the money.

First off, I was as satisfied as should be expected with nearly every part of my experience with Hotel du Fort, except the treatment of me and my friends by the staff members. By all means, stay here if you enjoy being treated like dirt for being an American. Upon arriving at the hotel, there was a problem with my reservation, and I was made to sit in the lobby for approximately twenty minutes while they "corrected" the problem, an excessive amount of time considering there were rooms available. On four occasions, housekeeping and other staff members simply walked into our room without knocking, and accused us of things we did not do and threatened to charge us extra for messes that are to be expected when four people share a hotel room, and that did not involve anything extra than vacuuming the floor, something which I would assume they would do anyway. Some crumbs had merely fallen on the floor and needed to be vacuumed up, something that probably took her five seconds in all. My friends and I even cleaned up the room ourselves before they came in to make their job easier. All in all, I was baffled by the rude behavior, especially when the cleaning woman and her supervisor burst into our room and talked down to us so condescendingly. Basically, I would never recommend Hotel du Fort to anyone, and I certainly would never stay there again, and I sincerely hope that this review helps someone avoid this extremely rude hotel.

I recently visited Montreal on vacation. I had a room with a king bed and separate sofa bed which was very spacious. The quality was very nice and everything was well maintained. The staff was extremely helpful in recommending restaurants and planning activities. The hotel is located downtown, and definitely has a business feel. It is not in the middle of the tourist area, but the metro stop is a short walk away and the neighborhood is very safe and pleasant. I would definitely stay in this hotel again and recommend it to others.

I loved the Hotel du Fort. My room had a king bed with a sleeper sofa and was very large. It was well kept and the staff was extremely helpful in suggesting activities. The hotel is located downtown so it is not in the middle of all the main attractions, but the neighborhood is very safe and it is a short walk to a metro station. I would definitely stay here again and feel I got more than I paid for.

Good hotel for the price. In a good location close to everything. I just spent the weekend in Montreal with my girlfriend and if we had any questions about where to eat or go the staff was very helpful. The only complaint that I had was the parking was 20$ a night. I thought that it was pricey. Other than that the room was large and nice.

The hotel is just on the outskirts of the main shopping area on St Catherine but very close to two metro stops a few blocks away. The staff was very helpful and the rooms are very comfortable and large is size. I would definately stay again since this hotel is a real value.

I grew up in this city and know it well but have never had to stay in a hotel before. I would stay at Hotel du Fort again. The location is convenient (near metro stations and bus lines as well as shops and dining), inexpensive, clean, quiet and we appreciated the service of the staff. We stayed four nights and were surprised by the attentiveness and professionalism of the lobby staff consdiering the cost of the room (very inexpensive) The room was clean and although the hotel is steps away from Montreal's busier main drag, we never heard noise from the outside. The only irritation we experienced was a nonfunctioning bathroom outlet and a blurry screen on the TV. Overall, I would recommend this place to anyone.

We stayed at Hotel du Fort for two nights in August, 2008, in a room with a King size bed. The room was spotlessly clean, the bed was extremely comfortable, the bathroom was a good size and convenient. The staff -- front desk, concierge, housekeeping, breakfast room servers -- were five-star helpful and friendly. The room has a convenient kitchenette hidden behind folding louvered doors, with an under-counter refrigerator, coffee maker, bar sink and some counter space. There's a grocery store one-half block away, so you can get water, drinks and snacks to keep in your room. In your room is a take=out menu with over a dozen restaurants to order from, and they'll all deliver to your room. There are a couple of nice neighborhood restaurants nearby, as well as a drugstore and atms. The continental breakfast was just ok--cereal, yogurt, bread, juice and coffee. I don't think it's worth $11. The hotel is about a five block walk to the subway, which was easy to use, fast and convenient. We used it to visit Old Montreal and McGill University. We really enjoyed Montreal, and plan to stay at the Hotel du Fort on our return visit.

Great Affordable Hotel. Near a happening street.

My boyfriend and I just spent a weekend in Montreal and stayed at the Hotel du Fort. It was a great place, especially considering the price. Easy walking distance to downtown with lots of shops and restaurants just around the corner. The rooms are really spacious, quiet, and clean, and the staff are helpful. Definitely recommended.
