Nice location, walkable to many of Montreal's attractions, including the Metro, which gets you to the rest of them. Although there were a few minor maintenance items that need to be addressed ( a sticking door, a few paint chips), this was a great choice for my family. We especially appreciated the room layout (small suite with separate bedroom), which allowed us to isolate the snorer in our group so everyone slept well. Very friendly and accomodating folks at the front desk, and we liked the little cafe on the first floor for breakfast.

If you're looking for swanky digs, skip this place, and plan to spend a lot more money. But if you just need a comfortable place to sleep, in a neighborhood that's conveniently close to the Vielle Ville (Old City), Vieux Port (Old Port), downtown, and Rue St-Catherine, then it's a good deal. The bed wasn't terribly comfortable, but also not terribly uncomfortable. Just so-so. The room smelled a bit musty at first, but it's an old place, and turning the a.c. on for a bit took care of that. The carpet wasn't particularly appealing, the paint was a bit ugly, and the bedcovers were your typical cheap-hotel bedspreads. But quite serviceable. And anyhow, as soon as I enter a hotel room that doesn't have European-style bedding, I always pull the bedcovers back so that if we're lounging to use the internet or watch TV, we're sitting on the clean sheets and not the questionable bedspread - so no biggie. If space matters a lot to you, then that's one thing this place has going for it, or at least it was the case with our room. It felt quite spacious, like a little studio apartment. Also, it must be said, when we were checking in, some guys on the 6th floor were throwing beer cans out onto the street when we were checking in, which made me very nervous (my husband was fine with it, go figure). However: it was a Friday night, and I get the impression that this is the kind of place where perhaps college students will rent a room for the night to throw a little gathering, and the beer-can-throwing we observed was probably a very isolated incident (I have strange luck). Saturday trough Tuesday seemed much quieter. We did notice that most guests seemed like 20-30 somethings. However we did see some seniors, and there was a family with adorable small children (Is it just me, or are French-speaking children utterly adorable?) when we went up to the swimming pool, and they seemed quite happy. Carpet is bad, room smells

The hotel location is convenient and although the furnishings are dated, everything is clean. There is a great little cafe downstairs. Parking the car was a problem as the hotel parking seemed to be undergoing repairs.

This hotel had great suites, perfect for longer-term stays. Our room had a very comfy bed, and a couch-bed that's the most comfortable one I've ever slept on. There was laundry facilities, a pool, and limited parking on-site. And it was very close to a lot of the downtown activities that make a trip to Montreal so much fun!

We stayed in a king suite, which had a full kitchen, dining table, and a mini living area. My only complaints were: the bed was rather uncomfortable, room was very hot even after we had asked to have the temperature turned down, none of the windows can be opened, hot surges of water in the shower, and even though we asked for a nonsmoking room... it smelled as though it was a smoking one. Other than that the location was perfect, there's a cafe/mini grocery store right next door, large room and great for the price. I would not recommend this hotel for the older/family crowd my experience was that this is definitely a party hotel.

for the price we paid we got an entire small suite instead of a tiny room with 3 beds that is offered at other hotels. Great staff and convenient location

This hotel is very conveniently situated. We arrived by train and the hotel was in walking distance. The tourist office and main shopping streets were a short walk away. There is an excellent supermarket on the same road about two or three blocks away so you can self cater quite easily. There is a convenience store and cafe as well as a good Chinese restaurant next to the hotel. The hotel could do with being updated but if you are on a budget it is perfectly adequate as it is. There is a coin operated laundromat which we found very useful having been travelling for three weeks.

Beds are very narrow, AC very noisy and did not work properly. But location is excellent,price very reasonable room size is OK.Great for family vacation.

Where do I start? Furniture are so old that the couch and chairs are worn out and look like they are from the 1960's. The blankets have holes in them and the bedsheets smell like they haven't been washed in months . There are multiple stains on the carpet. When I stayed there I tried to go for a swim, but the water in the pool was so cold and murky that we walked right out. Let's not even talk about the parking situation. It's just insane. If there is an agency that regulates hotels in Montreal, they should close Hotel La Tour Centre-Ville.

La Tour Centre Ville is a hotel that has seen better days, but it is clean and comfortable. The rooms have kitchenettes (with dishes!)and a grocery store is only a few blocks away. There is also a convenience store and a Chinese restaurant on site. The hotel is within easy walking distance of the Old City, Chinatown, McGill University, and shopping on Rue Ste. Catherine. If you don't need 5-star service and are looking for a clean, comfortable, and most of all convenient place to stay, the La Tour Centre Ville is for you!

Did not have the requested room available at check in. (room with 2 beds). Very dirty carpets/floors, walls, windows. Faucet leaked in first room. Bad smell in hallways. Very outdated decor. Staff tried to accomodate, but there was nothing much better to offer. Just a torn couch with a pull out bed and thin mattress (What they called a "suite"). Walking distance to the convention center was the only good part.

The good bits - the location of this hotel is very central and convenient. As a single female traveler I felt very safe. The rooms are really large and have a kitchen area with a fridge and stove (although no utensils in my room apart from two plates and two cups). There is a bistro downstairs with great service and a good choice of foods to eat there or take to your room. The bathroom was really nice and clean, all things working properly. The bad bits ? the fridge was so noisy I had to switch it off. The air con was also noisy and made my room a bit too cold, and I couldn?t switch it off or unplug it. The unit controlling the temperature kept resetting itself. The room seemed very clean at first, but when I looked under the bed on my last day to see if I had left anything I saw a sock and a piece of paper that did not belong to me. I wouldn?t expect the cleaners to hoover every day but I would expect them to do so inbetween guests. On the whole, if you are on a budget and only staying for a short time I would recommend this hotel as it if fairly cheap compared to others.

The hotel lobby and staff were very nice, but the rooms were old and a little dirty/shabby. Not bad for a place just to sleep for the night, but not good for a longer stay.

good for the money

The only real negative is deferred maintenance, old furniture, TVs, etc. They can also run out of parking. The hotel houses lots of performers during music festivals.

Kitchen light was broken, shower temperature was either too hot or too cold, outside of that, no complaints. Clean was my objective in selecting this hotel and I was satisfied. Bed was comfortable, and the room had a good view of the city. There was a lot within walking distance, and the Metro was near by. Parking at the hotel was not an issue.

The hotel room was a throwback from the 70's but I was happy to find a mini-kitchen as it was useful for cooking small meals and cooling rediculous amounts of beer. The beds were fine and the room was well maintained. In other reviews I read that the rooms were not cleaned everyday. This was not so in my case. My room which was a small suite was cleaned everyday (beds made, fresh towels, ect.) This Hotel is in a great location, close to the metro and also close to st. catherine street which is where a lot of the downtown nightlife is. The internet acsess was around 10 bucks a night which sucked but whatever I would still recommend this hotel for anyone who wants a decent room for their money.

This hotel has an awesome location. The rate was very reasonable. The building maintenance was lacking, though. Rusty faucets, hard mattresses. Like living in a college dorm. Having said all that, if you get a cheap rate, not a bad place to stay overall.

We stayed 4 nights and 5 days; the only 2 things I can tell you that we had issues with is (1) The Hot water would surge in the shower, (we stayed on the 12th floor?), and (2) The parking garage was pretty tight for our Ford Freestyle. BUT- great place to stay! Wife and I walked to the Old City and the shopping areas every night, and the Hotel is in a perfect location for uptown or downtown shopping, dining, or just wandering. China town is 5 minutes away, old city is 15, shopping (St Catherine Ave) is 10 minutes. This city is easy to navigate, once you learn there are no left turns on major streets - look for one-ways to go down, and life is simple! The entire area is layed out in a square. You would have to be completly helpless to get lost in this city! We swam in the pool, and worked out in the private rooms (men's and women's are separate), plus the sauna is awesome! VERY NICE! The kitchenettes included plates, silverware, bowls, a fridge, microwave, and coffee maker were a great way to defray cost of this very expensive city, and the IGA grocery is accross the street and 1 block down for easy shopping. We read all the comments from Hotels.com about this property prior to booking, and the comments ranged from the very pickie - "No good service", to "we had to pay for parking". Let me tell you something- you have to pay for parking EVERYWHERE in this town! The $16.00 per day for underground, secure parking is a bargain! A simple parking ticket is $35.00! We used the Hotel garage and paid $16.00 per day and compared it to our friends who stayed at the next Hotel and used the public parking, we paid $74.00 (partial rate for half days), they paid an average of $27.50 a day, with two tickets for a grand total of over $100.00 dollars! No complaint from us! Our room was a small studio and was very comfortable. The cleaning service was excellent, and we never had an issue with the staff. They went out of their way to assist us with extra towels, coffee

The sauna and pool is on the top floor. Sauna is on a timer. It takees forever for it to get even a little hot. Also, the thermostat is hard to decipher. There are no instructions on it. My room got warm. I finally called front desk and they got someone to regulate it.

Good value for the money. Convenient location. Helpful staff.

The location of the hotel was great and persons at front desk were very kind.However the curtains had pasta sauce on them and my pillow case was dirty,I slept with my shirt on my pillow.

Good room for the money. Close to everything not too far to walk to Saint Catherine Street and close to the Metro's. Needs some things fixed in the room but the views override the small problems that age has caused. I would stay here again.

Don't come here if you're looking for swanky, trendy decor or special services. But it's a great option for those on a budget--conveniently located right downtown and near a couple Metro stations, perfectly clean, with helpful staff. My one complaint is that some sort of construction was going on at night outside, and I could hear it clearly even twelve floors up. Bring ear plugs and you should have no problems.

You get a lot of space - and esp. a kitchenette - for your money and the location is near many things. But this place badly needs some basic maintenance (more than one electrical outlet was loose in its box with a cracked cover) and a new paint job. Heck, much of it needs a real remodel - and new windows would really help w/ the traffic noise. On the other hand, it's so much cheaper than most of what's near that it's still a bargain if you're willing to accept all that. One other thing: I stayed for several days and it seemed to be taken over by college kids when the weekend arrived.

If you want to sleep on washed blankets, take a shower in clean bath and do not argue with customer service desk calling you "liar" refusing to provide simple service, than avoid this hotel. If you do not want to pay additional $20 daily for parking your car and $10 for Internet access you also should stay away of this hotel - it is not explicitly marked (we checked three hotels in surrounding area they have free customer parking and free Internet wireless connection)

I got the large suite for a few extra bucks, and I was amazed at how large it was. Basically, a one-bedroom apartment. The hotel is a bit old so there are some maintenance issues and the carpet could use replacing, but the furniture was comfortable if basic and the staff were pleasant enough. A large party erupted close by and woke up my wife, but I slept through it. Oh, and the suite has a full kitchen, so you can save quite a bit by eating in.

This hotel is situated on a very busy street. If you park in the obvious place, in front of the hotel, you're likely to get a very expensive ticket. Instead go round the hotel and up a narrow street behind it and park in a designated spot above the hotel's garage for check-in. Apart from that, the room was comfortable but not in any way luxurious. And they nickel and dime you to death charging for parking and internet among other things. And they charge a 10% premium on anything involving exchange (such as giving you Canadian coins for US$s). Coming ny car I think I would by far have preferred a nicer and cheaper hotel outside of Montreal. I think that with a car one would be better

This hotel isn't the most luxurious, but it is clean, modern, and the staff is earnest and helpful. My room included a small kitchenette which was a nice added convenience. Also, the convenience store and bakery in the lobby had reasonable prices. I was in Montreal for a conference at larger hotels up the street, but this was only a ten minute walk and even closer to the basillica and down town restaurants and bars.

I chose this hotel because of its price, its relative proximity to the bus station and to the area of Montreal where I planned to sight-see. The suite was spacious and comfortable, with kitchenette, bath, sitting room and separate bedroom. (The TV was in the sitting room). I would recommend it as perfectly adequate, although there was nothing "special" about it in terms of extras.

Great price for being in downtown. Most places we wanted to go we just walked to. The room was just fine. We were a bit noisy but didn't get any complaints. Nor did we hear anyone else during the 3 days so I assume the walls were pretty thick. Cons: Parking garage is $16 a day. (free to park on streets from 9pm to 9am) Wireless internet password $10 a day. No breakfast or pool. Also, we were upgraded from a small suite to a large suite for free because they were out of smalls, which is what we booked. So that was a huge bonus.
