Clean room and hotel. Decent location walkable to shopping and public transportation. No frills. Slightly dated bedspread and decor, but a good place if you just need a spot to rest and place your stuff while sightseeing.

Great location on one of the main streets of Vancouver. Front Office staff were a touch vague and never answered the phone but the room was clean, housekeeping staff serviced daily to a good standard. Pub next door was convenient. All in all great value for money.

Decent, clean room. Some decor (bright yellow and brown beadspread) seemed slightly dated. A good hotel for just to sleep at night, but nothing to brag about either. The neighborhood Metrotown, at first glance, appears a bit sketchy, but the street life nearby are mostly harmless, and this hotel is easy walk to the new Vancouver subway and trendy Yaletown as well as downtown shopping.

staff , except for mangager Gabriella.....was very rude and obnoxious.....instead of servicing thier guests..all they cared about was how much extra $$ they could charge to accomodate any requets........there interpersonals skills were serverly lacking !!

The hotel is in the process of remodeling, but we were impressed with our room. It was clean and recently decorated. We had the A/C on and were not disturbed by the construction or the neighborhood at all. Considering the price that we paid compared with surrounding hotels this was a great value and I would stay again.

the hotel doesn't have parking lot, and you need to pay 14 dlls each day. I have been traveling in many cities in America and never paid for parking my car, that is very unusual for me. The hotel is very noise, because is in the middle of a night live city. Most of the time you will find people drunk and very noisy.

The manager, Lucia, was very friendly, and her staff seemed to follow her example/standards. The hotel exterior/front was under re-modeling, however, the lobby and rest of the hotel interior was in good condition. Two small distasteful issues; the duvet had one hole completely through about the size of a dime, and there appeared to be dried MUCUS on the carpet between the night stand & bed. Perhaps a box of tissue placed on the nightstand for the previous guest may have prevented this one unpleasant sight. The addition of a small refrigerator in the room would have been very useful for storing snacks, etc. I would recommend this hotel to others.

Staff were great, location was good, but my room had a horrible moldy smell that made my one night stay quite unpleasant.

The location and rooms are not bad for the price. However th service was horrid. Solely because I walked in with a guest from another room they suspected that I was trying to smuggle someone extra into our room. This was not the case but the staff would not let it go. I will not be staying here again, I'd rather stay in a hostel (whoch I have) at least they don't treat their guests as liars.

The hotel was great, you have to pay parking 15 dollars which sucks cuz it is their parking. Also I would call ahead and make sure if they are doing construction, Granville was closed off and the noise was very loud. Besides that, great location and price.

First of all getting to the hotel parking was quite tricky because the shared public parking lot is behind the hotel in a dark alley. We were not informed that there was major construction in front of the building that shut down the whole street. When walking to the front door of the hotel we had to push our way through the people that were standing outside waiting to get into the nightclub that is right next to the lobby. The night staff was not in a good mood when we got in for our late check in; understandable because the noise from the club is very loud and the people outside were kind of sketchy. The room itself was not too bad, apart from the heater not working. The fact that we were expecting a King bed w/ complimentary breakfast, but got a Queen bed w/out breakfast didn't help. It was more like staying in a cheap motel than in a hotel downtown.

If you are wanting to experience Vancouver's nightlife and need a place to crash - this is it. Reasonable rate. Guests seemed to be on the younger crowd. on a a Friday and Saturday stay. Granville is the hip and be seen area. Probably not a good area if you have young kids.

The hotel is ok but the nightclub it's too loudly for me...

The staff were very nice . Very accomodation with every questions/inquiry that you may ask about the place . The hotel is accessible to public transportation, you dont need a rent a car because parking fee is very expensive . Very close to attractions/sight seeings . The hotel is small though but its clean . there's several CHEAP dine in restaurants and fast food around the area . The only comment I have to say is I've seen several homeless people loitering on the street . But as a whole , the hotel is recommendable especially to tourists looking for good deals .

We stayed one night booked on price and location. Downtown Vancouver is very pricy in July it was value for money but I would not wish to stay more than one night. The Lobby is grim brown and green decor and poorly lit, with dubious looking people sitting around. Granville Street is closed to traffic as a new skytrain is being constructed down the centre of it to connect the airport to the cruise port. The room was on the 5th floor small but adequate, no views, very hot noisy air con. Towels tiny and very thin. Airporter Bus stops just across the road. We stayed at the Howard Johnson after having 5 nights at the Central Plaza Burrad Street (wonderful) and a 14 night Holland America Cruise so it was quite a come down. We had booked the Central Plaza on a great deal for 5 nights but they had wanted a lot for the single night. We dropped our cases and one rucksack off at 9am before our room was ready to take over (the Howard Johnson charge 1$ per item for storage). We were able to use a safety deposit box for our passports etc. No charge. That was handy we then enjoyed a great day at Grosse Mountain

An older facility in a not too nice neighborhood.

This hotel has a great website!! The place looked great online. Upon check in i was a little thrown off by the neighborhood but not as much as by the Front desk. They really weren't accomodating at all. The room was great though, very clean comfy beds. though it was noisy outside. If you just need a place to stay and not to relax you do get your moneys worht.. good location too. It for sure NOT a place to book your honeymoon or a relaxing weekend

The location was good the people where nice and the nearby restaurants great. If you go please do yourself a favor and grab some Blenz coffe. As for the hotel well the look was good, but as soon as we crawled in bed we found out that the bedspread was filthy dirty, so make sure you check it and let them know if you find anythign wrong.

It was perfect to crash in. The people were friendly and helped with our needs. Beds aren't extremely comfortable but hey you get what you pay for. I will definatly stay here again.

Location, location, location. The bathtub wouldn't drain and the shower was small, bathroom was teenie tiny... and the room was smaller than my two year old's nursery (maybe 12X12) and they called it a queen suite (?) It was really cheap though and the neighborhood had tons of shops and great bars. Everything that may have been nicer was almost double and we prefered to spend our money on the town. If you love to party this place is for you, especially since there is a great pub style bar in the hotel. The Sushi shop across the street is really convenient.

HJ is the type of hotel that is great for the travelar who doesn't need fluff. It is located in the dynamic West End of Vancouver and on accessible bus routes. And the rooms are clean and the staff friendly. Money well spent.

We used this room as a room to crash in. But the rooms are very small and the walls are very thin. At 6 am we could hear the people in the next room just talking. They weren't even being loud and you could hear every word very clearly. Front desk was ok. Very good location

If you are looking for an affordable place to stay in downtown Vancouver then this is the place. The area the hotel is in is kind of trashy, but compared to other downtown areas it's not so bad. The staff is friendly and helpful and they're is plenty to do in the immediate area. I would mainly recommend this hotel for young singles.

Smallest room I have ever seen. Toilet clogged. In a pretty bad part of town, at least once the sun goes down.

First of all, the hotel is on a block directly across the street from 5 peep show/adult video stores. When we checked in, the deposit was more than the amount we paid for the room!! The parking is in a sketchy lot around the back alley, the fitness center is 2 blocks away, there is no jacuzzi (unless you have a suite) and the front desk staff is some of the most unhelpful and rude people I have ever met in a customer service position. On top of all this, when we had breakfast in the hotel restaurant, there was a MOUSE running around! I would never come back to this hotel. The one plus is the area. Other than the run down block the Howard Johnson is actually on, the rest of the neighborhood is quite nice (yaletown). Perfect for the young, clubbing type!

Room size is so small, water was not draining properly in the bathtub, so noisy in the nights because of the pub in the first floor.

Certainly can't complain about this newly renovated hotel. The staff are friendly and its right in the middle of downtown Vancouver. Plenty of places to eat cheaply and the hotel's bar is rockin'. The homeless rate around the hotel is substancial but nothing to worry about, overall well worth it.

You also have to pay 12 dollars a day for the parking if you do get it. I wasn't to get parking until the second day. Vancouver is definately a party town and if you like to party, there are pleanty of clubs within walking distance. The room itself was good for the most part for the price I paid. I would stay there again and would recommend to anyone who stays there to check in early to get parking.

This could be an alright place to stay if the hotel staff paid any attention to you. I asked for a cot at about 8:00 and after asking 3 times it finally came at 11:45pm. Also it's in a really nasty part of the city. You can walk 3 or 4 blocks to the nicer part though.

Nice enough place. In a very bad neighborhood. Lots of homeless.

No iron or ironing board!!

It is not a bad hotel, it's not amazing but it's decent. If you are staying on Granville, you are probably there to go out and have a good time, and more than likely not with your family. This is a place for friends, couples and singles.
