Ambassador Hotel - Wien

Das Ambassador Hotel liegt mitten in der Wiener Innenstadt, für mich perfekt. Wer ein 5 Sterne-Hotel bucht, erwartet aber Perfektion in allen Bereichen. Im Ambassador fiel auf, dass z.B. der Teppich teilweise abgelaufen war, im Bad der Badewannenablauf nicht regelmässig gereinigt wird und somit verstopft war, sich Teile der Badezimmerarmaturen lösten und im Winter ganz besonders unangenehm: Die Heizung im Badezimmer nicht funktionierte, was auch nach Nachfragen nicht gelöst werden konnte. Am Kleiderschrank war das Scharnier defekt, sodass sich die Türen häufig aushängten. Fazit: Hätte ich den regulären Zimmerpreis bezahlen müssen, hätte ich mich sehr geärgert. Ich denke, die 5 Sterne hat das Hotel zu früheren Zeiten verdient, heute müsste dafür schon Einiges nachgebessert werden.

Gepflegtes, ruhiges Hotel mit großem, hohem, wohnlich möbliertem Zimmer. Da Zimmerzahl begrenzt (ca 80 auf 3 Stockwerken) angenehm intime Atmosphäre. Aufmerksamer Service. Man fühlt sich wohl. Rundum zufrieden.

Wir waren 3 Nächte im Juni 2008 da. Das Zimmer stellte sich als Themenzimmer ("Josephine Baker") heraus: großzügiges Eck-Erkerzimmer im 3. Stock (2 flinke Aufzüge) mit Blick auf die Spitze des Stephansdoms. Vom Vorraum aus ging es ins geräumige Bad mit Doppelwaschtisch, ins separate WC oder ins geschmackvolle Zimmer. Gelbgold-gestreifte Tapete, blaue Vorhänge, Parkett, gut befüllte Minibar und großer Einbauschrank mit antiker Front. Safe. Schreibtisch, Sitzgruppe im Erker, 4 Stühle. Die Matratze schien zunächst etwas weich, wir haben aber bestens geschlafen. Die Bedienung des mit Funktionen (Internet 13 EUR/Tag) überfrachteten TV-Systems war hoteltypisch umständlich. Aufdeckservice am Abend. Im Zimmer vermisst haben wir allenfalls Obst, etwas Süßes für die Nacht oder ein Blümlein. Stets sehr freundlicher Service. Das Personal hatte uns Karten für Staats- und Volksoper besorgt und stand mit Tipps zur Seite. Die Hotelbar bietet ordentliche Drinks zu anspruchsvollen Preisen (Gin Tonic 11 EUR). Das Restaurant haben wir nicht besucht, Speisekarte & Preise scheinen ambitioniert. Ideale Hotellage für die Sehenswürdigkeiten der Altstadt: direkt an der Fußgängerzone zwischen Staatsoper und Stephansdom. Auf der Rückseite (separater Eingang, Taxistand) kann das Haus mit Auto/Taxi angefahren werden. Das Zimmer hat Schallschutzfenster und 1 etwas zugige Klimaanlage. Recht ruhige Lage. Wir würden das Ambassador als gehobenes 4-Sterne-Hotel einstufen und kommen gern wieder.

Das naechste mal lieber in ein 4 Sterne Haus, in dem die Angestellten sich noch um den Gast bemuehen.

Super toll in der Innenstadt gelegen und nur 4 Minuten Wegzeit bis zum Stephansdom. Alle Sightseeingobjekte der Innenstadt sind bequem zu Fuß zu erreichen. Die Zimmer bieten hohe Decken mit historischem Stuck und sind angenehm groß. Da nur ein restaurant im Hotel vorhanden ist, muss man auf die Innenstadt ausweichen. Dies ist aber gar kein Problem, denn direkt vor der Haustüre des Hotels lässt sich der kulinarische Streifzug durch Wien beginnen.

Reception was not knowledgable about area. When asked how I should get to Franz Joseph Bahnhof...the reply was "take a cab".. I asked at the U-Bahn information and the answer was simple take Tram D direction to Nusdorf and Tram stopped right in front of Franz Joseph Bahnhof. Tram was by Opera 2 minutes to hotel.

Great location in the center of the city and close to metro stop. Comfortable rooms and helpful staff.

Good value, room small but very clean. Didn't realize breakfast not included in the price I paid through Hotels.com, so had breakfast my first morning there and was taken aback by the $35.00 cost. One can't possibly eat $35.00 worth of breakfast, no matter what it consists of. Also, although my requested nonsmoking room was likely not smoked in, the smell of smoke from other rooms on the floor permeated the hallway. Perhaps I should have requested a nonsmoking floor, if such things exist in Europe. Otherwise, no complaints.

This is a very traditional hotel right in the heart of the Innere Stadt and 100m away from St Stephens. It easily deserves a couple of stars for location, classic style and service but in my view does not merit the 5 star rating as I have stayed in more luxurious 4/5 star hotels with better facilities. If you want a central location so you can walk to most places and you can get a good rate then I would recommend it.

Very convenient located in the heart of down town and easy access to pretty much everywhere. Friendly staff and very prompt.

Hotel was very noisy, construction everywhere.

I do not recommend this hotel to anyone as long as it is in the middle of a construction zone. The hotel did not post any such information and was surrounded by street construction on all sides making in impossible to rest or relax during the day. Also, I expected to have a full bath in a 5 star hotel. Instead, all I had was a shower pan.

The location is nice as it is right in the center of the city. Rooms are quiet despite the large crowds outside during the evening/night. Cons are no free WiFi, you have to buy a Tmobile pass for 18 Euros per day. This should be included in a hotel of this caliber. Also they don't provide a hot water machine which would have been nice to make coffee in the AM. There is no place open to get coffee in the area until 7 am. Another annoyance is the staff who are polite, but couldn't seem to stay out of my room (day and night). They are always coming in, even after it has been cleaned, fluffing up the pillows and folding the sheet back, who knows what else. Really isn't necessary. I'd rather be left alone, so you have to keep the do not disturb sign on the door or they will be in there all day.

While the price advertised on their website was incredibly high, there were very good deals available via this website and this hotel had a good review in the Lonely Planet so we chose to stay here. The staff were very helpful and let us check in early. The rooms are nice and comfortable and the location is incredible. We walked to everything (except Schonbrunn)as the major sites are so close by. The only thing we found a little odd was that cleaning was done so late in the day (e.g. we'd come back for a break around 3pm and they were just arriving on our floor to clean) so we'd have to go out again. Not a big problem but sometimes we just wanted a little longer in our room with no interruption.

The rooms are large and comfortable but are getting a little run down. They could use some sprucing up. There is no concierge per se. The person at the front desk multitasks and does this quite well. Very helpful in obtaining tickets and restaurant reservations. Wonderful, reasonable places to eat on the Karnerstrasse. Don't eat at the hotel's overpriced restaurant or breakfast buffet. Location of the hotel is outstanding.

For my first stay in Vienna, this hotel was outstanding.

Extremely luxurious hotel. Everything is beautiful and sophisticated. The room is extremely large and expensively decorated in a classic style. There is a secondary vestibule for coats, etc, and temperature control. The amenities are all very pretty, and smell quite nice. Robes and slippers provided, as well as a wardrobe closet, flat screen tv, etc. The restaurant is amazing and the staff also is quite friendly. I stayed in this hotel in the middle of a month-long venture across Europe, and it was the most satisfying and pleasurable. The hotel is unquestionably worth what it charges, and more. Also, it is located right in the centre of a shopping area, right next to the opera, train stations, theatres, Sacher, and other important sites. The neighborhood is very safe and there are generally always peole around. The Museums Quarter is also nearby, as well as the Christmas market at Rathaus.

There is nothing wrong witgh this hotel, but nothing particularly great either. For the price and reputation it was disappointing. In Vienna, there are much better hotels in the same price range or, alternatively, hotels as good at much lower rates.

To see Vienna as a tourist this was a perfect hotel. Great room and centrally located. The only flaw is the front desk staff is out to lunch in terms of being any help to needs of their guests.

We couldn't believe the location. It's within walking distance to marketplace, wonderful restaurants and also St. Stephan's. Hotel was very helpful in booking reservations for restaurants and tours. Definitely would recommend.

For the cost of the rooms, it was very disappointing that breakfast was not included in the price. The rooms were spacious and comfortable and very centrally located in Vienna.

The Ambassador is an elegant hotel in a great location near the Opera House. Our room (Junior Suite) was very spacious and immaculate. Very friendly staff. There is a lovely lounge/bar and several nights a week a string quartet plays in the evenings. I highly recommend this hotel.

for a five star hotel I was very disappointed, the rooms were small, the beds smaller and the bedding was sparse. their was nothing luxurious about the room. the hotel staff were not friendly ,they were cold and not at all welcoming or accomodating. Vienna was beautiful but the people were snobbish and not interested in helping tourists at all.

We only had two days in Vienna so time and location were of the utmost consideration. The taxi from the train station was under twenty minutes and we were within walking distance of the Kunsthistorisches Museum, the Imperial palace and the Spanish Riding School. The bedroom and bath were spacious and well appointed. Lots of light and great fabrics. The hotel lobby was small but very elegant,in a 19th century urban kind of way. You can check your email in the complimentary business suite on the 4th floor. Using Hotels.com saved us a hundred dollars a night and believe it was absolutely worth it!

This hotel exceeded my expectations. It was in the heart of Vienna and within walking distance of museums, cathedrals & great food. The staff was extremely helpful and spoke english. I will note the rooms have a/c but do not expect the cold a/c we are accustomed to in the USA.

For our first time in Vienna, we loved the Ambassador hotel. Felt like royalty. Great location, lovely room, clean, well designed, modern bathroom facilities and just enough "old world" charm. Right in the middle of lots of activity but quiet. Walk anywhere with lots of shopping, dining and sights. Go, you will love it. Close to the Metro as well.

This is a great hotel, in excellent maintenance state, and a superb location on the Kartnerstrasse (pedestrian) street downtown, close to practically everything. We were quite pleased with the Ambassador overall, except for one thing: the bed! It was one of these European nonsensical constructs: the double bed was actually two twin beds put one next to the other, with two matresses and separate bedding. Very non-functional as a matrimonial bed! The hotel claimed that's all they had- it's possible that some of their other rooms have decent beds.

This hotel was perfect for our stay in Vienna

This hotel is great in terms of location and service. Very short walking distance to St. Stephen's cathedral, the Albertina, Hofburg, and other Viennese sights.

This Hotel was worth twice the rate. We took a taxi from the airport and then walked or used public transportation for 7 days.

The location is outstanding and being at the city center it is very convenient for sightseeing and shopping.

There was nothing about this hotel that I didn't love. The location couldn't be better, the staff is amazingly helpful and friendly and the rooms are fit for a king. I would tell anybody to stay here.

The hotel was centrally located with very nice facilities. The service was very good. The only problem was that there was noise on the pedestrian walk outside our room and they went until after midnight

This hotel is beautiful - inside and out! The staff is wonderful and polite. We liked the location because it was in the center of the square which was very convenient.

the hotel was beautiful and perfectly maintained. the staff was well informed and very helpful. the room was clean, comfortable and luxurious. there is a free business center for guests to use which includes a computer. the hotel is in a great location with a back entrance directly onto the walking street.

The concierge service was simply amazing; the location was great.

It would be helpful if the hotel would have irons to use. We arroved during a holiday and could not even pay to have something pressed.

First, the location of the hotel is excellent - and I would stay there again for that reason alone. Problems: I had to walk through the dining room to get to my room. The bed was uncomfortably hard, and the shower head was so low I had to crouch down to wash my hair (and I'm 5 foot three). I guess I could have removed and held it (it was a hand held typeshower head) but then I'd have splashed the whole room. I liked everything else about the hotel, but as I write this I realize I had major complaints.

Foersteklasses, om end naeppe helt i fem-stjernet hotel klasse. Absolut perfekt service, store, velindrettede vaerelser, helt ny og velfungerende sanitet. Glimrende central beliggenhed. Absolut anbefalelsesvaerdigt.
