The hotel was great for what we wanted - somewhere comfortable and clean to sleep. There was free tea, coffee and cookies in the lobby and they were a real tasty treat.. even better because they were free! The rooms were average size and the bed was so comfortable. Our room was decorated in a boutique style in good taste. The room came with a flat screen TV and free wifi. The bathroom was a little small, but had everything we needed including a fantastic powerful shower, just what we needed to wake us up at the start of the day. The location was really central to Union Square area where all the big names in shopping are and the tram/ trolley car stopped right outside the door to take you to the bay area or to save your legs up and down those steep streets (we stayed for 5 nights and only took the trolley 3 times, so the hills aren't too bad!). Right next door to the hotel is a place called Sears and their breakfasts are so tasty, so would definitely recommend that place, go early because the queue goes out the door and up the street!! Lori's Diner is an American 50's style diner that's just up the street, from the hotel, on the corner has a full size vintage car inside - food was very tasty too. The lady on the tour desk was very helpful and gave us the best deal on our return shuttle to the airport. She also gave great tips for skyline bars etc. In short - we had an amazing time in San Francisco and this hotel was the perfect spot for us.

Bewertet von M aus Leicester am Sep 20, 2009
Everything was great about this hotel, especially the location. This was one of the cheapest hotels we could find in 3 star bracket and it more than lived up to our expectations. Our room had a great view over union square and really felt like we were in the centre of it all, though it wan't noisy at all. You would usually expect a hotel that central to be noisy but it wasn't! The staff were all very polite and free cookies and drinks in reception were a great little touch. The only 1 fault I could find was the small rooms but for a big city I was expecting this so I can overlook this small drawer back! I would definitely recommend it or even go there again soon I hope!

We loved this hotel, but many people wouldn't and that's for one reason - it doesn't have air con. If you can cope without, then it's a gem. The rooms are clean and comfortable and the location is ace! The free coffee and cookies are available all day and night, so pretty handy when you're feeling a little peckish mid afternoon. Not many people noticed, but they also offer free apples in reception too.

Location is outstanding. Everything about the Chancellor is fabulous for anyone wanting to see all that SF has to offer. Cable cars at front of Hotel,Muni and BART about 4 blocks away. Very attentive and helpful staff. Rooms like most older hotels--small,but very clean, with all of the amenities. Great flatscreen TV. We spent a week in mid August and thought that lack of A/C would be a problem but it was not. Rooms on back side are quieter. Can't be beat for the money!

Bewertet von George aus Marshall am Aug 27, 2009
The Chancellor screams old San Francisco. We loved everything about the hotel except the lack of air conditioning. Sure the Bay Area weather is cool but the rooms only have a ceiling fan and are quite stuffy if you do not open the window. The Muni-Train runs 24 hrs a day right in front of the Chancellor and makes sleeping with the window open difficult. All of the city noises make for a restless night. We chose to sleep with the window closed and put up with the warmth. Our only other complaint was the maids disreguarded the do not disturb sign and cleaned our room anyway and woke us up from a nap when they came in the room without knocking. The food was wonderful and the bar was well priced and quaint. We would stay in the Chancellor again if we wanted to be in the downtown.

Hotel more on old fashioned side but very charming. Best to stop at the front of the hotel in the white zone, drop the bags then get directions from the staff.

I love staying at non-coroporate hotels; the Chancellor reminded me of smaller European hotels. The staff was incredibly helpful, the room was clean and very comfortable. Loved the coffee and cookies in the lobby at all hours. The only problem I had is that SF was unseasonably hot and the lack of air conditioning was a little problematic. Also, if you are a light sleeper like I am, the rooms in the front of the hotel are far too noisy but the staff was very good about relocating me to the back where I slept just fine.

The hotel was one of the cheaper options in the area, so considering the cheaper price it was a good deal. The room was clean and nicely decorated. Across street from Sak's...on the Powell trolley car line....SO, Great for the shopper. Great dining in the area (Morton's across the street & Daily Grill a block away). Only difficult thing is getting into hotel & parking is 1 block away. Can pull up to front of hotel, check in & then drive to parking, then walk back to hotel....ughhhh. All one way streets and curb is not always vacant - tons of traffic. Our parking was included in our Hotel.com reservation, this is a MUST have if you drive in because otherwise parking is sooooo expensive. So, would rather fly into SF, taxi to hotel then use local transportation - would never take car into the city again. The hotel was very charming and perfect location for our shopping spree. High end stores abound....LOVED our shopping experience. Close to the Theater district too!! Breakfast was delicious in the hotel and the bar was great. Staff was a little snooty, but we were in the city...it's expected.

Close to Union Square. Although it markets itself as being on the cable car line (it is), it's impossible to catch one (they're too crowded). Didn't eat at the restaurant which is only open until noon but they do have room service. I liked it because it was small, quiet elegance, and not flashy like the Westin St. Francis. Room was comfortable with a nice view. Nice flat panel TV. They did charge for movies and no continental breakfast but I like my Starbucks in the morning which was right across the street!

Managed to find (from an internet search) a direct email address and contacted them before I arrived, they were very helpful and made everything very easy. I'd booked the inclusive car-parking rate and was really pleased I did ... I don't know what I would have done with the rental car otherwise ... unloading the car and moving it to the garage around the corner went completely without a hitch, as did the reverse on leaving. We were lucky with the weather during our stay, but San Francisco apparently gets lots of showers, I thought the idea of leaving a complimentary umbrella in the room for you to use during your stay was a particularly nice touch. The lady in the little shop in the hotel lobby was very helpful in making sure we got the right stamps for sending our postcards airmail. If you're going to be using the SF public transport system a lot, you can get your all day tickets from there also ... we found this out too late. San Francisco is a fantastic city and it was great to be right in the middle of it all.
