The hotel is not so helpful with booking tours and is a bit of a distance from the major sites but the staff will help you get to where you want to be as Paris' metro system is very efficient and easy to manage. No a/c in the rooms we booked but a very satisfying breakfast was a nice touch.

Our stay here at the Claret has been comfortable and enjoyable. Neither of us has traveled abroad much; so we're not quite sure what to expect with hotels in other countries. Here are some specific observations that might be helpful. 1. The room and bathroom were very clean and adequately spacious. 2. The staff were very accomodating and friendly. They speak English well too. 3. The breakfast is adequate. 4. Semi high-speed internet (up to about 50k/sec download max) was available and relatively stable in our room, but not always consistent (small periods of diminished reception). This has been frustrating for me during Skype internet business phone calls. 5. The hotel is not close to city attractions, and is situated amongst many roadways and railways. To reach the more romantic streets of Paris, one needs either to take the metro (an unromantic means of travel) or walk through bland and sometimes unpleasant streets. I say this to properly set your expecations. The hotel room has somewhat of a romantic feel to it, but the surrounding area lacks this same appeal. So, if you're looking for a romantic location, this isn't it; but if you're practically minded and okay with traveling to get to the romantic areas, this should work excellently for you. 6. That leads me to the next point... proximity to mass transit. As other reviews have mentioned, the Bercy Metro Station -which has easy and quick access to the city center, is right outside the front door (literally). The hotel is also close to the Guar de Leon train terminal. 7. Now that we are familiar with the area and Paris (and are more practically minded people), we would likely stay here again.

The subway terminal is literally right out side the front door (Bercy station on the 14 or 6 train). For the price we paid and knowing the Paris is a little more expensive we were satisfied with this pick. Breakfast was free and our only problem was we had a tub instead of a shower and not all rooms were like ours. However, this would not keep us from staying there in the future.

The hotel staff was very friendly & helpful in helping find our way around. The breakfast came with the room. This is a nice feature if you're like me and don't feel like searching for a place to find breakfast first thing in the morning. The hotel is at an ideal location - right next to the Metro station which gives you access to Paris. The hotel is about a block from the Seine River and about 1.5 miles down from Notre Dame cathedral. The hotel has a nice, comfortable lobby and a small, comfortable courtyard in the back of the hotel. Please note that the rooms do not have air conditioning which can be an issue in the summer months. We were there in late-July when the temps were in the mid-80s. Also, the street traffic can get pretty noisy for those rooms facing the front of the hotel. They'll give you a room in the back, but they will charge extra for it.

The hotel is really very nice, except for one major downside - it is situated next to Gare de Lyon and you cannot leave your windows open because every time a train stops it sounds like 100 decibels of nails on a chalkboard. Luckily the windows are quite soundproof - but without A/C it is too hot to sleep with the windows closed. They do provide a fan which is nice. The breakfast and the staff are very nice. The hotel is located at Bercy metro which is on convenient metro lines for a lot of tourist attractions. The hotel staff for the most part speaks english well. So: stay here if you are not staying during the summer/when it's hot.

This hotel was a bargain when we stayed in June. Just a five minute ride to the Bercy metro stop from Notre Dame (the savings were well worth the extra five minute commute). Staff is friendly, but was not able to advise about the surrounding area. Breakfast was EXCELLENT. I recommend this hotel-just be sure to request a room on the back side of the hotel or the trains will keep you up all night. Safe travels.

We started our 10 European vacation in Paris at this hotel. What a little gem. The location is great. It is directly in front of the Bercy metro stop (lines 6 and 14). You can explore the whole city from there. The neighborhood is the 12th district. This is a mostly residential and business district, but there is a large sports arena near by and the Bercy train station that will take you to all locations in Italy. We found many local cafes and restaurants to eat at. The hotel itself was so charming. Our room was typically European in size... small. But it was very clean, with a good size bathroom, cable TV that included Canal +, large windows that provided a nice breeze, and my favorite part, wooden beams cross the ceiling. So cute! We loved this hotel and would stay again for sure!

It takes no more then 10 minutes to get to the heart of Paris on the metro and the Bercy station is 20 feet from the door. The hotel staff was very nice and spoke english and even had cold beer for sale in the evening, the free breakfast was perfect, very european, cheese, hard/soft boiled eggs, coffee, bread etc etc. The room was on the small side but still very comfortable with a large bathroom. I would stay there again without a second thought.

The hotel is a little out of the way but the front door is 20' from the Bercy Metro entrance. From there, it's only 30 minutes to any part of town. The area was clean and quiet and appeared fairly safe as I walked around multiple times as late as 3 or 4 AM. The breakfast buffet is typical for European hotels but perhaps a bit more selection with croissants, bagettes, ham, cheese, yogurt, granola, hard boiled eggs, and fruit. There was alwasy someone available to open the front door 24-hours a day so no need to worry about being back by a certain time. The rooms were clean and fresh linens were supplied on a daily basis. There is no air conditioning but the large windows swing open to allow the cool night air to enter the room. The only downside of the this is the close proximity to the train station which meant passing trains at various hours through the night. For the price and location, I would stay at this hotel again. It's not among all the monuments but given the ease of the metro, unless you are travelling at odd times, it is still convenient.

We stayed at Hotel Claret for 5 nights in late February of '09. The staff were very helpful and available. If you like firm beds, you will be pleased. The metro was located outside the entrance. Bercy station, #12 & #14 lines will get you to central Paris in 5 to 10 minutes. We would recommend opting for the breakfast which includes many goodies to get you warmed up for the day around Paris. Rooms facing the courtyard are your best bet as street-side rooms may be loud. There is a nice neighborhood for groceries and other small shops up the street. Doors lock at midnight with a bell that will notify the front desk to let you in. We will definitely consider staying here when we visit Paris again.

Bewertet von Suzanne aus New York am Dez 2, 2008
Never having been to Paris before, I chose the Hotel Claret based on a combination of its proximity to the Opera Bastille (the primary destination for this trip), the price, and -- of course -- how well-reviewed it was by other Hotels.com customers. I was not disappointed! The neighbourhood, while not all that glamourous, is pleasant and safe enough, if a bit empty after 7pm; much of the surrounding buildings are government offices. Still, there are plenty of lovely little restaurants nearby and I never felt, as a single female traveler, uncomfortable returning to the hotel at night. The room wasn't all that big (it's Europe, after all!), but was very comfortable, and the bathroom larger than I would have expected. The tub was perfect for soaking, which was a delight after long days of walking all over Paris for hours on end. In terms of location, Bercy would seem a little out of the way at first -- but then one discovers that there is a) an airport bus straight to the nearby Gare de Lyon and b) a multi-line Metro station just steps outside of the front door. The Bercy Metro station is served by Ligne 6, which runs between Nation and Etoile (Arc de Triomphe), and Ligne 14, which runs between Olympiades and the Gare St. Lazare. On Ligne 14, it was only 3 or 4 stops to the centre of everything; the Chatelet station, for example, gets you to the Louvre or Notre Dame, and is rather like the Times Square station of Paris (every line under the sun). Incredibly, incredibly convenient. As for the breakfast/no breakfast option: if you're a foodie, skip the breakfast, as it's not all that exciting. If you're on a specific schedule and need the convenience, then the Claret's continental breakfast is just the thing. I would certainly stay at the Claret again on my next visit!

Although the hotel is a little shabby, it had other qualities that are positive, e.g. great location, quiet room, good breakfast, responsive staff, close metro stop, large bath tub and an elevator that accomodates two people with two large suticases. There is a great family run Italian restaurant just around the corner, that has a terrific atmosphere. The Italian place gets very crowded about 7:30-8:30PM, but clears out about 9-ish. Go early at 7, or later at 9. The metro is literally steps away from the hotel and other restaurants are along the same street. It is a great base for explorations in Paris.

The Claret is located right next to the Bercy Metro station, which will take you into more central Paris. The most trouble we had with the hotel was the noise/disturbances. The housekeeping staff begin to clean and make noise fairly early in the morning (around 7:30 AM). Also, there is no air conditioning, which forces you to leave the windows open. This can cause problems because of the street noise on one side of the hotel. There are also several train tracks very near the hotel as well as a bus stop right outside of the hotel, which can sometimes get rowdy. So, light sleepers beware. Overall, the hotel provided us a place to sleep and was very good because of the Metro. The room was simple, but quaint. There was not a stand up shower in the botel, just a mobile shower head in the bathtub. And we found the restaurant attached to the hotel to be overppriced, so we frequented cafes and sandwich carts. But, again, for a clean, pleasant place to rest (excepting the noise), we would recommened.

After reading other reviews, I found the room to be bigger than expected. Very clean with a shower. By US standards the shower was a little small but I managed just fine. If you don't have a converter to recharge your cell phone, the built in hair dryer has a US standard outlet. It says to only use it for electric shavers but it saved me since my phone had only a drop of battery left. The metro station was about 5 paces away from the front door which made all the difference in the world. The room was cute. Definitely request a courtyard view. Be sure to push your room door closed! I fell asleep with mine open the first night since it closed automatically. The front desk staff spoke English very well which was helpful. They also had stacks of maps which they used to guide me on the Metro wherever I was going. The desk staff was awesome! It is such an easy city to get around in and everything is much closer together than I thought. The cafe' downstairs was ok, I wouldn't do breakfast there. 10 euro for fruit, cheese, coffee, juice, and croissants.
