Hotel Athena - Siena

Our stay at the Athena is of mixed feeling. It's a old 4* hotel that really just doesn't cut it in today's market. We paid for a superior room and when we arrived it was barely average. The air conditioning unit leaked and made a big puddle on the floor when trying to call reception no one picked up we tried maybe 5 times, but nothing. Finally when going down to the desk they said they would do something about it and yep, nothing was done. There are better hotels out there doing it for cheaper. In reality this is about a 2* hotel

we were on the ground floor and had noisy youngsters that had gathered just outside our window so i would make sure you are not at the front of the hotel on ground level but the staff and hotel was excellent

Hotel is perfectly situated to explore Siena, unfortunately it lacks any sort of life and was disappointing. Our room was shabby and the guest spaces (breakfast room, reception etc) left a lot to be desired.

Good location, close to Duomo and square, quite an average 4 star hotel, but exceptionally helpful staff more than made up for anything else average.

great value, deluxe room far superior to the standard room and well worth the reasonable uplift, clean, great location (inside city walls), friendly staff, lovely terrace with stunning views, on site FREE parking which is rare in siena, overall very good place, would recommend

Location was great and the hotel was very nice. The room was big, bathroom was big and the air conditioner actually cooled the room, all contrary to other hotels I stayed at during my visit in itally.

We used 4 different hotels from hotels.com for our trip to Italy and this was the only one to not meet satisfaction. The room was tiny and the bed was horrendous. The least one expects from a hotel is a satisfactory mattress and this hotel had a bed with no box spring and a thin, very hard mattress which gave no support and caused back pain which lasted for 3 days adversely impacting my experience in siena. The room was very small.

I would like to know why this hotel claims that it is a 4 star hotel. I was quite disappointed with this hotel. It is quite worn and in need of some updates. The hotel is in need of a renovation. The hotel was lacking. No body wash or soap in the bathroom. Don't drink the water. The water from our tap in the bathroom came out brown. Our room was quite noisy most of the day and night. Also, the hotel is not as close to the Campo as they would like you to believe. It is about a 15 minute walk to the plaza. After staying in a 4 star hotel in Perugia, we found the Athena quite depressing. I would not return to this hotel again, nor recommend it to someone.

Wonderful hotel. Greatly enjoyed my stay. Siena is a beautiful, charming city and the hotel was fantastic. Has a veranda that overlooks Tuscany beyond the walls of the city. Breathtaking. Room was gorgeous and clean. Would stay here every time.

I have only good things to say about this hotel. Great location, fantastic amenities, very clean, extremely friendly and helpful staff. Just one recommendation: If you have even a moderate amount of luggage, you'll want to take a taxi from the train station to the hotel. There are no convenient buses to the hotel.

This hotel is within the walls of the city. A perfect location! Breakfast was great and the room was very nice. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Fee for internet was very reasonable. Free parking was added bonus.

Easily accesible with on-premise parking (which makes a huge difference in Siena and Italy in general). Nice, clean rooms with a friendly multi-lingual staff. We would definitely recommend this place.

The inside of the hotel was nice, and spacious, with very modern rooms. Included parking, which was good. They had to work on the water the morning we woke up, and they mkade sure we knew in advance of the time the water wouldn't be available, and they had 2 free big bottles of water in the room for drinking, tooth brushing, etc. The view was poor, and it was about a 15 minute walk to see the sites.

Getting to the hotel from the bus stop is not fun if you are on foot. As for the hotel, it was one of the more "pricey" hotels we stayed at but the service was great, the room was very nice despite the tiny shower area in the bathroom)and the staff was very accommodating.

overall a nice place, only things on the negative side, the walls are not particularly thick, so it can be a bit noisier than one would like and the wireless is a not for free and b not very fast and reliable outside of the Hotel lobby. Location is great it is a 5-10 minute walk to the Campo

I would say this is one of the better hotels in the area. I've stayed at 5 star hotels and was disappointed with how old and small the rooms were. Considering this, I would put this hotel at the same with those 5 star hotels. However, if one visits this hotel for the first time you might think it outdated. On the plus side it's a great location, easy to find, and friendly staff. We enjoyed our stay and will stay again in the future.

The hotel is approx 10 mins walk from the centre. Its a lovely walk through narrow well lite medival streets. The hotel was very clean and comfortable and has a great view from its roof terrace bar. There is also very good access to the ring road which means you don't have to drive through alot of narrow, tourist packed roads if you want to tour the countryside.

Located an easy walk (maybe 10 minutes) into the center of Siena (the Duomo and Campo). The taxi from Siena station was about 10 euros, and about 5-10 minutes. Clean and bright lobby, and the room was clean and nice.

We had an exceptional stay. We were on our honeymoon and they upgraded our room and sent us a bottle of wine. The room was clean and had a modern bathroom with marble countertops and a good hairdryer. The location was good, as long as you don't mind a little walk up to the center of town, about 500 yards. The view is great because it is right on the city wall and overlooks the whole valley below. The breakfast was standard for a european hotel.

I liked the hotel, it was clean and a good location. For the price, I felt it was a good deal. I would not want to stay there a week but we stayed for 2 nights and it was a good deal for that.

The rooms were huge. The staff helpful and all spoke English. Well appointed and spotless bathrooms. Wonderful Italian linens. We had a great view of the countryside. Overall great. We would love to return. Location is convenient, but a steep, uphill walk to return from the campo.

Hotel Athena's front desk staff were simply refreshing compared to some other hotels we stayed in throughout our trip to Italy. The location is not the most favorable, but its charm makes up for that. Siena is such a small walkable city that it doesn't really matter where your hotel happens to be, just as long as it's inside the main wall of Siena. There is a great little place to eat just up the street on the right called Osteria "Nonna Gina". It was affordable and had such great charm.

Good location and great views of the Tuscan countryside. We would certainly consider staying here again. 8th floor rooms have great views.

Excellent location just inside the old City. Everything within walking distance

The lobby is nice, but other than that, rooms are very outdated. Staff is nice. Not worth the money we paid, which was pricey. We consider it a 2 or 3 star hotel, NOT 4 star.

Vi havde et godt ophold, dejligt værelse, hotellet var godt beliggende. Vi kan godt anbefale dette hotel.

Hotel pratique proche du centre de Sienne avec un parking interne gratuit. Par contre, beaucoup de chambres ont une vue très restreinte.

Hôtel assez bien situé. Parking privé et gratuit, ce qui est appréciable.Accueil chaleureux. Petit déjeuner très copieux. Chambre et salle de bains spacieuses mais très mal insonorisées: bruits de la rue et surtout bruit des autres chambres.

Bien placé près d'une porte de la ville. Parking appréciable.

sin dall'arrivo siamo stati accolti con grande gentilezza, la stanza era veramente in condizioni impeccabili, bella, comoda e pulita. La colazione era abbastanza varia: latte, the, cornetti, uova, affettati ecc... insomma un pò per tutti i gusti. Non posso giudicare la cucina in quanto, colazione a parte, non ho mangiato in albergo.

La camera non era all'altezza delle aspettative. Ricavata in una specie di sotto tetto, piccola, bassa. Dotata di finestrelle, sporche. I davanzali sporchi da escrementi di colombo. La sedia sporca, lampadina del comodino fulminata. Il bagno era basso, la cassetta del vater senza coperchio. Non c'era il collegamento wifi.Deluso per quella sistemazione. Ho chiesto di cambiare ma sembra non c'era posto.

Très bien situé, propre, agreable, bon accueil... en revanche une critique négative sur l'isolation phonique, inadmissible pour un 4 étoiles, on entend parler les voisins comme s'il étaient avec nous, dommage.

gesitueerd in het oude stadscentrum, met parkeerplaats. Beetje achterstallig onderhoud. Wel prima service.
