Britannia Ashley Hotel - Altrincham

Needed a hotel close to relatives for my two daughters and their respective babies while on a family vacation from Canada. In this regard, the hotel met the criteria. The hotel itself was extremely inconvenient. There was no check in area for vehicles or a place to drop off bags. There were five paid public parking spaces outside the hotel that were almost always occupied. We had to haul all our baggage up a flight of stairs to the elevator while the lobby staff looked on. The rooms were clean, but they mix smoking and non-smoking rooms on the same floor. We had non-smoking rooms but one of them had been smoked in and smelled bad. They switched rooms for us to another floor and these were tolerable. The mattresses were very old and uncomfortable, and heating was non-existent after about midnight until about 7am. My daughters and their babies practically froze. The dining area was the only bright spot. It has a reasonably priced buffet breakfast and lunch, and the staff were extremely friendly and helpful - especially the duty managers who fussed over the babies (7 months and 2 yrs). The other saving grace is that the hotel is situated in Hale, which is a fairly upscale village and has lots of good dining and shopping all around.

The hotel was better than I expected and was terrific value for money. The staff that I met were friendly. My room was clean, tidy and comfortable. I would definitely return if I need to stay overnight again.

the staff at the hotel were great very helpfull rooms were loveley and clean breakfast was fantastic and the buffet meal at night was great value woul most definetly use this hotel again disadvantage the car parking have to use somerfield car park make sure you have a ticket on your car

I had been led to believe that The Ashley was in dire need of refurbishment, but from my own experience a freshen up would be all that is needed. The overall impression was good, although the fact that some rooms are "smoking" is not good as the unpleasant odour of stale tobacco lingers in the air in the corridor whilst the rooms are being cleaned

Enjoyable stay. All Staff were friendly and helpful. I have stayed in the Hotel before and would stay again. The Hotel and the rooms are looking a little tired but overall cleanliness and comfort of the room was good. Being in the middle of Hale there is a good choice of places to eat close by.

This is a good, standard hotel with all that you'd expect for the price. Staff were really helpful and efficient. Room was okay, furniture a bit drab and dated and my TV didn't have its remote. Oh - and parking is very limited, but there is a car park nearby.

Local to Manchester airport - Welcome/friendly service - 24hr check-in service - Comfortable and clean rooms with very nice bathroom facitlities - Lovely dining room - Excellant breakfast with plenty of choice for everyone - Cost fantastic - Would recommend to all. Would have liked a lift on ground floor and to all floors. Not wheelchair friendly

Although the accomodations were fine, finding the hotel was dreadful. We had to stop and ask 4 times for directions from locals. Even consulting "map quest" did not produce results, because a complete address was not given. The picture on the home page was not the hotel that we stayed in.

satisfactory and flexible in most areas,but on arrival tv did not work[no arial connecrion]this was remedied within 1 hour.also went for meal at 20.20 and although listed in room as last orders 20.45,they had closed restaurant at 20.15,and had not advised reception.a bit old fashioned ,but comfortable,and i would certainly use again if in the area

Maybe the planets didn't align properly the night we stayed? Ashe (the girl at the counter) was very nice... no one else was even pleasant. The rooms were comfortable and the property is pleasant. The only problem was the annoyances stated above... and the fact that the staff was unhelpful when asked about them. The pub had a complete menu, but we were told, "The chef is too busy preparing for a catered party to serve anything off the menu." When we asked if we could have setups to bring food in, we were given attitude. There was a payphone in the lobby. And we could have used the pay-per-minute internet connection that somehow was working even though the advertised free connection wasn't. An otherwise pleasant stay was, unfortunately, made uncomfortable. Breakfast was very nice!

The hotel staff were very friendly and the breakfast in the morning was lovely, this hotel could do with a bit of a make-over though, the funishings are old and dated, it felt clean, but a bit musty! The location is ideal and hale is a lovely little town with a street of nice restuarants and shops, overall a nice stay.

Nice enough hotel in center of small town. Photo is misleading; park is smaller than it looks. Room was quite warm and could not be regulated without turning off the heat for entire hotel. Web description says breakfast at 7 AM and dinner in restaurant. Breakfast was not available at 7 AM and we had to order dinner in the bar. Beds were uncomfortable. For the money and a one-night stay on the way to the airport, it was acceptable. The staff was very nice and the food was very good.

While this hotel is in a good location, especially when planning a flight out of Mancester, the cleaning procedures and staffing were subpar. The bathrooms, especially, had not been cleaned properly. The breakfast, while adequate, was late in appearing and inadequately staffed.

Stayed at Britannia Ashley for one night on a business trip as it is close to Manchester Airport. The worst was the room. The bed was very lumpy and had no mattress pad under the sheet. The thin sheet was right on a lumpy, dirty mattress. Ugh! Window was painted shut. Dirt in corners of room and bathroom. Coffee cups were stained and glass in bath had white junk in the bottom. Only one slip lock on door. NO deadbolt. This is NOT a 3 STAR hotel! Gave me the creeps.

Although hotel title contained the word Airport this was not close to Manchester Airport. A taxi to and from the hotel cost $24 each way. The room was adequate for the money but the restaurant was not available for dinner as there was a large coach party booked in. The bar/restaurant had poor selection of food and service. The hotel would be adquate for an overnight stay if a free shuttle to the airport was included
