The people I met there were all really nice. It is inexpensive and in a decent location. The rooms are not that great, but hey, you get what you pay for. And in any case, you will probably only return there to sleep and shower. (the bathrooms are really small though. and ppl dont keep them that clean) but over all, it was an ok visit. not that bad at all.

The building is old, and even a nice, (also garish sometimes) paint job can't hide that. The stairs up to the 1st floor were uneven and prone to tripping people. The stairs to the basement were frighteningly steep. The staff was polite but infexible about check-in/out times. The room was small but just fine. It was very clean and the IKEA light cover was adorable. There was an inconveniently placed bar in the center of the bunk bed. However, if you're in NYC and you're not falling into bed exhausted with everything you did that day, you're not doing it right! The bathrooms were immaculate and the showers blessedly hot even after the morning rush. It's a no-frills place but for the price and location, it's a total win.

If your looking for the barebones then this hostel is for you. the lounge and lockers are in the basement. the stairs to the basement are very narrow and curve sharply. It's a pain to carry bags up and down. there is no air conditioning. The hotel staff tends to be lazy and unhelpful. you can use the computers in the lounge but it's $2 every 20mins. The luggage lockers cost $5 for up to 24hrs but if you open it you'll need another $5 to lock it up again. there are about 30-40 beds per floor and only 2 bathrooms per floor. I would recomend either a different hostel or to stay in a cheap hotel in jersey and take the path train into NYC

That is the best thing about this hotel. The rooms were moderately clean and extemely cramped, but that is not what you are paying for. The neighborhood is quiet and close to resturants, mass transit, Central Park and the Museums. When you travel to NYC there is too much to do, this hotel is great for spending all day out in the street then coming home, crashing in the lumpy bed for 7 hours, waking up and getting out to do more.

location of the hotel is good, close to central park and only 3 streets up or down to nearest tube. staff friendly. On the bad side the stairs are not straight and a bit of trouble to get up especially after a few drinks. Two bathrooms to each floor but only one in use one we went , be prepared to wait for shower in morning. The doors have a strange lock system which was not explained and we were locked in the room on two occasions for bout half an hour make sure this is expalined to you. The hostel was over run by about 30 french students who insisted on running up and down the stairs all night with no effort to be stopped by the staff. Altogether would not stay there again was clean but not well maintained and very noisy.

The hostel needs some serious interior work. The steps sag, making it rather tricky to navigate, and dangerous as well. The 1st floor bathrooms are in dire need of an overhaul. One of the tubs/shower doesn't allow water to drain properly, so it simply sits in the tub. A floor mat should be on the floors to prevent slipping and overall cleaning of the bathrooms should be done more than twice a day. The room itself was clean, so that was nice. The location of the hostel is ideal, with a subway station 3 blocks away.

The hotel could really use some updates. The stairs up to the rooms are not even or even level. There are no garbage cans anywhere in the hotel. Personally, i did not know what to expect after reading past reviews about Hotel Lollipop online, However, it turned out to be a refreshing surprise. The location was tricky at first, but once learned it turned out to be very simple. All in all, this hotel is a safe place to stay, and you can meet interesting people from all over the world. But this is not a 4 star hotel so expect minor inconviences such as poor air conditioning, a warm mini fridge in the lounge area, and waiting lines for the bathroom in the morning. BUT, i stress these are very minor issues. If you need a safe place to get a little sleep after exploring the city, the Lollipop is it.

I had low expectations when I arrived, but by the end of my 4 night stay, I was satisfied with the experience. I dormed with 3 other people, but luckily for me, they were all great people. The bathroom was in pretty clean and working condition, aside from the toilet. I didn't see any rodents, or roaches, which is a plus. But it would've been nice if the room had a TV or at least a radio. There are hardly any amenities at all, but considering the cheap price, it is worth it.

As said in previous reviews, you get what you pay for! The building is old so it was as clean as it could be. I felt safe (as you can in NYC anyway), and the location was great. Subways are just a few blocks as well as Central Park. Perfect place for young travelers who like to meet new people. The only negative thing about our stay was that you couldn't flush the toliet paper in one of the bathrooms on our floor. Just be patient as far as getting into the bathroom (coming from a big family, I'm used to that!!!) Overall we had a good experience, but we aren't spoiled!

This Hostel overbooks and we never got our room and have yet to be refunded. When we arrived there were multiple guests waiting to get their room and they were overbooked by 12 people and the next night they were overbooked by 30 people. The receptionist was more concerned about texting her friends then she was about the clients. For your own good, dont book rooms here, it will not save you money as you will have to book a hotel somewhere else.

It's a hostel. Low budget. No Frills. Very basic amenities. What do you expect? It is for the tourist on a budget. The room is literally a bed in a room. That's it. Clean room. Fresh sheets. A Towel. Bar soap. That is it. The bathroom was clean, even if you have to share it with 10 other rooms. May be tough to get into the bathroom in the mornings. Be prepared to wait...and don't wait until the last minute if you have to relieve yourself. You may find yourself waiting awhile to do so. The bathroom maintenance person seems to had adopted the credo that caulk can fix anything. There are three inches of caulk around the bathtub, toilet, sink...and baseboards. Drains inside the tub and sink have the same philosophy carried to them as well. I guess it never occurred to anyone to remove the old caulk before the new caulk is applied...but it is one of the few quirks in this place that make is special. It is a great value for the money if you're going to be visiting NYC and plan to spend very little time in the room.

The Hostel is very good! The rooms are small but since we were staying just to sleep... there were not dso much problem with that. I think the rate/prices of the night are a little bit high because we pay quite the same in a hotel, where they have bathrooms inside the bedroom. But overall, the hostel is really fun. They have pool tables, tv rooms, computers with internet. I liked the cleanliness of the place too. Every day there is someone cleaning the place. Bathrooms are always clean as well.

They don't want New Yorkers to stay at a NY hostel. Apparently all hostels want a foreign ID, or one from a long distance. I had to call my parents asking them to scan and fax a copy of my European passport - I could have remained with no place to sleep! AT least the girl who helped me at the desk was very nice about it. she really felt bad.

Ah Indeed! You do get what you pay for. In this case, a fifth floor no elevator tenement room. I paid up a little extra to get the "superior" room which apparently meant a little larger. I've kennelled my dog in nicer places. The furniture in this room consisted of two flimsy metal prison quality bunk beds, a sink, and a medicine chest with broken mirror with jagged shards sticking out. There was not even a chair or stool to sit down in or put your bag on. Lighting consisted of one circular fluorescent tube on the ceiling. No A/C, no fan, nothing to circulate the air at all and it was a hot muggy night. The two room windows open directly onto the fire escape which makes this room accessibile to anyone who cares to climb onto the fire escape. Anyone at all, as the building doesn't have secure front doors, so anyone literally off the street can walk in, climb up one flight of stairs, and the entire fire escape is then accessbile from any corridor window. Gives you that comfortable, secure, snuggly feeling. I seem to recall having counted 6 or 7 other rooms on the floor meaning you could have as many as 20 other people on your floor. Shared bath means 1 bathroom on the floor with 1 toilet, 1 sink, and 1 tub/shower all in one tiny room. You could wind up waiting a long time to get to use it, I did. And of course if you need to use it late, say between bar closing time and morning bathroom cleaning time, well let's just leave it at eewww, ick! Well at least I had my own sink to shave in except of course they didn't bother to include a stopper, but I improvised and carefully shaved making sure I didn't cut myself on any of the mirror shards. I had to kill 12 hours before catching a 7 AM LaGuardia flight so I figured I'd go cheap and see what the bottom of the barrel was like and that is what it's like: the bottom of a barrel. Management doesn't care and it shows.

I read the other hotel.com reviews of this hotel, which were spot on so there were no surprises. I do have to say, the location cannot be beat, especially for the price and the staff were pleasant. But the rooms were definately college-dorm style (i.e. squeaky beds, thrown together furniture) with no air conditioning. It is basically a place to stow your stuff and sleep, which is exactly what we were looking for.
