Affinia Manhattan - New York

das Hotel liegt optimal Midtown fürs Sightseeing-Programm für New York Erstlinge, sehr gute Anbindung zur Subway Penn-Station. Hervoragende Hilfe durch den Concierge-Service im Eingangsbereich bei Fragen, Reservierungen oder Tipps.

Für 4 Sterne ein etwas schmuddeliges Bad ansonsten aber durchaus i.O. Fähiger Concierge, nettes Personal, von der Lage direkt gegenüber Madison Square Garden und Penn-Station ganz zu schweigen. W-Lan für amerikanische Vehältnisse etwas teuer (nicht umsonst).

Das Hotel Affinia Manhattan hat uns sehr gut entsprochen. Einer der vielen positiven Punkte ist die sehr gute Lage mit bester Anbindung an das Subway und Busnetz von Manhattan. Der Empfang war sehr freundlich und der gesamte Aufenthalt sehr gut. Die Zimmergröße war super, eine kleine Küche war mit dabei. Das Badezimmer war sehr klein, aber sehr funktionell, mit allem was dazugehört. Großer Kleiderschrank, TV, Bügeleisen, Bügelbrett, Schreibtisch, Kommoden, Sessel, gute Betten, Safe, viele Steckdosen (Adapter nicht vergessen) - einfach alles da. Etwas verbrauchter Teppichboden. Auschecken problemlos. Unser Zimmer lag im 19. Stock mit genügendem Ausblick und für New York sogar nicht mal so laut. Die Klimaanlage war gut t zu regeln, aber laut. Insgesamt 7 Aufzüge für die Gäste sind vorhanden. Die Rezeption und der Informationsschalter waren immer besetzt. Die Koffer konnten nach dem auschecken sicher und kostenfrei deponiert werden. Topp- Tipp - wie würden dieses Hotel wieder buchen.

Das Hotel ist telefonisch schlecht erreichbar, die Zimmer sind eher lieblos.

War sehr zufrieden, vor allem die Lage ist für Sightseeing, Shopping, Theaterbesuche sehr gut. Das Zimmer war recht groß, gut möbliert und sauber, das Personal freundlich und aufmerksam. Einziges Minus: Es gibt keine richtige Lobby zum sich Aufhalten und auch keine Hotelbar bzw. diese befindet sich extern und ich fand sie nicht ansprechend.

Das beste Hotel das wir bis jetzt in NYC hatten. Dies war unser dritter Aufenthalt. Die Zimmer sind sehr groß und hell, kleines Bad (kein Problem). Die zusätzliche Kitchenette haben wir sehr genossen, denn man muss morgens nicht gleich los, um einen Cafe zu trinken.

The Affinia Manhattan is very well placed for getting around the major attractions in the city. We found it possible to walk to Times Square in ten minutes and to a subway in five. The hotel has a certain faded grandeur feel but the staff are very helpful. There's a very good information desk in the lobby and they sort out travel, transfers to airport, etc.We were given a 4th floor room to start with but moved to the 13th floor for the rest of our stay. Reception, correctly, said this would not make much difference to the noise from the street. The one big fault we found was that the window/air conditioning arrangement allowed in not only lots of noise but also real cold air we were there in late September so things may be different in summer or winter). There's a fire station around the corner and there was an emergency around 3am every night of our stay - New York fire engines have a very loud klaxon! We thought the room, with a small well-equipped kitchen area, was fine but there were no small table and chairs for eating. This was good in the end as it meant we went out for simple breakfasts and there's lots of good places nearby. Given what people say about many New York hotels, we thought this was a good bet if you are looking for neither luxury nor budget.

Finding a decent hotel in New York can be something of a minefield so despite some considerable research it was still with some trepidation when we finally arrived We arrived late, about 23.15 but there was still plenty of staff in the reception area so that went smoothly. Then up to the room. I was a little nervous when I was opening the door because if I got this wrong then guess who was getting the blame from the wife!! The room turned out to be fantastic. If there was a compliant it would be that it was just a little tired looking. Having made this slight negative comment this is the only bad thing that could be said for it. The room was enormous with a fully fitted lounge, separate bedroom, one bathroom and another separate toilet, kitchen , and get this, A BALCONY, in New York for goodness sake!!There is not many better ways to start the day than sitting in the sunshine drinking your morning coffee and juice looking straight at the Empire State Building and listening to the sound of the city. The staff could not have been more helpful whenever we had a query, nothing was too much trouble for them. Not only would I be more than happy to return to this hotel, I would not stay anywhere else when I return to NYC. I have also extolled the virtues of the hotel and its location to everyone upon my return to the UK so they can expect a lot more Brits coming to them, hopefully this will not put anyone else off. Thanks once again for a great stay.

On arrival we were greeted like long lost relatives. The receptionist wrote her name on our room card and repeatedly told us to let her know if there was anything at all she could do to assist to let her know. She even told us when she would be available. We quickly discovered that there was not a kettle in the room and within minutes of advising reception one was brought to the room. We were fortunately enough to have a room with a view of the Empire State Building and looked out every night to see what colour it was. Room was every bit as spacious as we had been lead to believe and with three of us sharing a one bedroom suite we had ample room to avoid falling over one another. Would happily return to this hotel again.

This hotel was perfect for our stay. Directly opposite Penn Station, with fast transferas to/from Newark Airport. Our room was huge with two king size beds and a kitchen. The only reason I didnt award top marks in this review was due to the room requiring a little renovation in my opinion.

Great location, a easy walk away from many of the main attractions. Hotel staff were excellent - very helpful and nothing too much trouble. A little disappointed with the room however - although spotlessly clean the decor was quite tired and dated and the bathroom was tiny and really quite shabby.

Great hotel .Plenty of space in room.Excellent kitchenette area.Huge fridge not that it is really needed,all we kept in it was a carton of milk.The ensuite is a bit small but manageable. Plenty of towels.The concierge was very helpful.Very busy at times had to queue.For the price we payed the hotel was top class.

The location is amazing, the rooms are adequate (some have plenty of space, some are a tight squeeze between walls & beds) but the kitchen in every room and the friendly service at the front desk make up for some of the shortfalls. Overall, a great place to stay...we will stay again.

Not a cheap hotel by any means, and the room was dingey and sort of depressing. Tiny bathroom with no sink top space or shelves for toiletries or towels. Black soot on bathroom walls from vent. Old old old TV that could not be moved or positioned so you could see it from various points in the room. No mp3 hook up on the radio and the price for the internet connection was a joke.

This hotel is in an excellent location, across the road from the Penn train station. Easy walk to Times Square, Empire State Building and other tourist sites. Subway is on your doorstep. The staff are very friendly and helpful and give you their own recommendations for places to eat, things to see. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

Conveniently located for sightseeing, shopping and access to public transportation. Wonderful food in hotel's restaurant with 20% off for hotel guests. Free printout of boarding pass and great help from the concierge desk.

Great location and a super bargain for the price we paid. Warning: the hotel's arrangments with the parking garage are expensive and not well handled.

Room was awesome....kitchenette ruled! We were close to everything and went everywhere...we cannot wait to go again!

The rooms could definitely do with a face lift and the bathroom was rather small, but the main room itself was spacious and extremely clean. (Even under the bed when I did my end of stay "sweep"). The staff were delightful, particularly Daniel the bellboy and Maureen on the concierge. Great restaurant - really helpful with my coeliac children. Overall, great value for money and I would stay again.

Having a working kitchen was great for us. Close enough to Whole Foods on 7th Ave. to walk(in the summer time) and gather healthy food to prepare breakfast and salads. This saved us the usual five pound gain at the end of a weeks stay in NYC.

Friendly staff. Bedroom very spacious - bathroom small - however kitchen facilities (especially fridge) more than compensated.

while clean and located exactly where I wanted to be, the building is OLD - I assumed (incorrectly) that all Affinia's were remodeled and much more up to date.

Hotel is accross the street from Penn Station and Madison Square Garden. Overall the hotel was fine. Staff was friendly and helpful. Room was very large - older but in good shape.

huge room by NYC standards for a very reasonable price; location is wonderful for tourists, many places to eat nearby.

We stayed four nights in this hotel in July 2009. Although the room was a little small (typical New York) the room was very comfortable. A refrigerator would have been nice but glad to have a safe. The staff were helpful and attentive at all times. The hotel was situated close enough for us to walk to Times Square, Empire State Buiilding and Central Park.

The hotel was not exceptional, but it was adequate for the price that we paid. However, the desk staff failed to put our room down as occupied. At 5:00a a random stranger walked into my room while my girlfriend and I were sleeping. Desk staff called 10 minutes later and was very rude to me. They harassed me about why I was in the room and kept me on hold while they fixed their error. The error woke us up, scared my girlfriend, and was incredibly embarrassing and the best they could do to resolve the situation is let us check out late. I understand mistakes happen, but for a hotel in NYC to handle an issue so poorly is unacceptable.

We stayed in New York July 28 and 29. We rode Amtrak into the city. The Affinia Manhattan is right across the street from Penn Station. We stayed in a two double bed suite. The description said kitchen, but I was skeptical since other rooms said full kitchen. We had a full size fridge, small stove, microwave, sink and enough dishes for four. Having a kitchen is a great money saver for a family. There is a Whole Foods about 5 blocks down 7th Ave. Getting around is easy. The subway stops are nearby. The staff was very helpful and friendly. I would stay at the Affinia Manhattan again and highly recommend it for a family.

The hotel we stayed at had a beautiful lobby as well as a helpful, friendly staff. When you venture out on the town and return at night they do ask for your room key to make sure you are a guest and I appreciated that; it made me feel like the hotel was somewhat secure. The room that we stayed in included a kitchen. It was convenient that the kitchen came with dishes, toaster and a coffee pot, but I expected the room to be larger. The kitchen did not occupy a separate section but rather the forth wall. The garbage can had a step down lid and was broken, we had a broken light switch and the bathroom was incredibly small with no ventilation. The lamp on one of the end tables flickered often and there was only one small window with no view whatsoever (though I do hear that is common of New York Hotel rooms). On the plus side the bed was very comfortable and there was a nice sized closet and plenty of drawers. If you are coming from Penn Station, the hotel is literally right around the corner. From the side doors you are right next to a Dunkin Donuts, there is a convenient store outside the front lobby doors to the left and a pizza place across the street with good pizza. I suppose if I were to be a guest at the Affinia Manhattan again the only difference is that I would get the cheapest room and not the kitchen one because I do feel for the size and condition we definitely overpaid.

Staff is very responsive. Location in mid-town Manhattan is very good. Room was clean and quite a good size for New York. Would definitely stay here again.

This was a great value for the money, we had a spacious corner room with very comfortable beds and a kitchen and dining area. the location makes it very easy to get around since it's right across the street from Madison Square Garden, Penn Station and multiple subway and bus stops. You could even walk to Times Square and the Empire State Building if you wanted to. We found a great bakery a block away called D'Aiutos. Classic bakery and everything was delicious. We went back to get a box of goodies to take home. Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts are on the hotel block, but for baked goods I'd go back there. The only complaint we had about the hotel is that it appears to be very understaffed. We had checked our bags with the bellman and came back two hours before our show to check in and change. It took them over 45 minutes and three phone calls to get our bags up to the room. But overall it was clean (though a little worn) and very comfortable (great beds!) and was a great price, we'll stay there again for sure.

The hotel was beautiful, the staff was friendly and helpful and the rooms are huge! My only complaint was that despite having large rooms, the beds where very small... I'm only 5'6" and my feet where just about hanging off the end of the bed. I would recommend that they get at least queen size beds instead of the double beds.... they also where not very comfortable. Other than that, it was a great hotel.

Very nice hotel, loved the extra room! Very convenient to all things! Across the street from Penn station, where you can catch a train or subway ANYWHERE. Staff very nice, lovely place. I would definately stay there again!

We were at the Affinia for 5 nights with three adults. Queen suite was perfect balance of room and privacy. Bed and sofa-sleeper were fine, street noise was minimal. Hotel is old, but well maintained. Staff were probably the most helpful and courteous that we have run across in our travels. Room service and guest services were outstanding as to service and quality of food. I would recommend this hotel to anyone travelling in NYC.

Hotel was seriously a great location. right near the subway, not too far from Times Square. A bit loud with all the traffic but what hotel can really prevent people from honking their horn or have ambulance pass by. People were pleasant and responsive. Was able to receive pillow and any other accommadations quickly. Perfect Location! Comfortable! Highly Recommended

This hotel met all my expectations. It was a fairly clean room with a kitchen and comfortable beds, close to Penn Station, with easy access around Manhattan. I liked the charm of an older hotel with the feel of a 1950's apartment. I felt like a true Manhattanite, not just a visitor for a few days.
