We enjoyed a great time in this modern designer hotel. No cool & fancy gadget design, just really nicely decorated. After long walks the small SPA area was the perfect place to relax (we were often the only people there). Location is very central and perfect to explore the various neighbourhoods of Madrid. No doubt, I will try to book this hotel again, when I'm back in town.

This hotel is in a great spot for exploring the city and within walking distance of many tourist spots. Really good size room and bathroom and super design throughout. Grat bar/lounge area, open all day, as well as rooftop bar, the latter is quite small but worth a visit. Restaurant really good and varied menu - excellent tempura!

Bewertet von William aus Nashville am Aug 11, 2009
The De Las Letras is a fine hotel, located just a few steps from the Gran Via metro stop and near the historical sites and nightlife. Don't be fooled, however, by the somewhat grand looking picture of the building. These are simple accommodations, though everything you need. we had two identical rooms in the rear and so didn't have noise problems. The bathrooms were quite large and the room itself was standard size. Great linens and towels. my only complain is that there is really no lobby, and therefore no good place to wait on a taxi or, in our case, a friend who was picking us up.

The location was perfect. Pretty much equal distance from the major museums and the Plaza Mayor. The hotel itself was very clean with very spacious rooms. The only odd part was the bathroom mirror is so far away from the sink. Both me and my wife noted this odd design. It's not a big deal, but it seems to have been designed with the long necked individual in mind.

We had 2 rooms for our stay becuase we travelled with 2 teens. The hotel is better suited for singles. The hotel seems to attract an artsy crowd, mostly gay and model types. The rooms, particularly the bathroom, has very bad lighting. The size of the rooms were fine and clean. Rooms facing The Grand Via are extremely noisy at night, one of the reasons I would avoid the area in the future. People screaming, alarms going off, etc. Finally the streets next to and behind the hotel were fully of undesirables.

Bewertet von Paul aus Prague, Czech Republic am Jun 28, 2009
We recently stayed at the De Las Letras H&R for three nights. The rooms are simple and well-designed. Bathroom was spacious and clean, outside of some water damage to the door frame. We slept extremely well in the comfortable not-too-hard, not-too-soft bed. Location on the Gran Via is tough to beat -- if you head out the hotel to the left, you cover Gran Via in about 15 minutes. To the right, you reach Madrid's top museums in about 15 minutes. We covered the city on foot and only used the Metro to come into the center from the airport. Noise might be an issue given the level of traffic on Gran Via. We were lucky and received a room toward the end of the corridor -- the balconies toward the end on each side are glassed in, which I'm sure helps to dampen the sound. We did not try the restaurant but we did spend some time every evening at the bar on the roof. Comfortable atmosphere as well as good service. When we did wander out, the best food we had was at the tapas restaurant right across the street.

Stayed for two nights. The hotel worked out perfectly. Great location, close to the Chueca neighborhood with all its bars, restaurants, and shopping, and only a short walk to sights like the Prado and Plaza Mayor. The rooms were a good size, with large, modern bathroom and small balcony overlooking the Gran Via, and were well-maintained and clean. The hotel's lounge was fairly expensive for drinks, but the rooftop terrace was worth it. Would definitely stay again, and would recommend to anyone planning to stay in Madrid.

This hotel is just stunning. Although the hotel as a very vanguardist design it is true to the original Belle Epoque period. I would define as conservative with an edge like Spain itself. The public spaces are incredible. Go to the terrace for an incredible view of Madrid. The sauna was soothing and healing after a long trip. A wonderful experience in a hotel with a lot of character.

Access to spa facilities (hammam, jacuzzi, sauna, steam shower and rain shower) is now free. Excellent location on Gran Via just a few metres away from the Metro, a few minutes from Gran Via shopping and the El Retiro and a half way between the great going out areas of La Latina and Malesana.

This is a stylish, ultra modern renovation inside an old building full of character. We loved the fact that the hotel had a library open round the clock with computers for email access (though the book selection is currently quite limited). The multi-lingual front desk staff were friendly and helpful. The rate is more than I would normally want to pay, but it was a special occasion so I splurged. Our room had a lovely balcony and there are some great views from the rooftop terrace. The spa is very nice as well. It is a good location as a jumping off point (near the Gran Via metro stop).

The staff were helpful, we asked for hot water and cups every morning to make a drink and it was no problem, and no charge. We had a balcony over looking the main road, when the doors were closed it was quiet. The hotel bar was no more expensive than most bars in the city. We celebrated NYE on the roof terrace! Do the cable car ride at Telerifico, stop 21 on the red tour bus line, amazing.

We enjoyed our stay at De Las Letras - it is located on Gran Via which is a main street in Madrid and pretty central to everything. The women at the front desk were very helpful with directions and restaurant recommendations. The men at the front desk weren't. My biggest complaint is the lighting in the room and bathroom. As a woman who wanted to apply makeup, the undercounter mood lighting in the bathroom was horrible and the natural light in the bedroom was nice but there is no mirror in the bedroom. We loved the terrace bar on the 7th floor. It was very cool. Interesting hotel, fairly spacious rooms for Europe, clean.

For Europe, the hotel was really nice and the rooms very clean and modern. We loved having free internet and a really cool blue light elevator that when you ride up and down, makes you look like you're either part of Blue Man Group or a Smurf (take your pick). I would say, for the price, it was a pretty good value. The only slight annoyance is that you have to walk through the lobby to get to the elevator, which is connected to their bar, with no door (which is kind of odd)...hence breath in even more cigarette smoke than you are already forced to breathe in throughout the rest of Spain. All in all though, really good hotel and I am very very picky.

I had a feeling that maybe they were redoing the lobby, though, so I guess that complaint won't exist for long anyway!

The Hotel is ideally located on the Gran Via and is within walking distance of museums, shops and Metro stations. Staff were very helpful, rooms are well appointed and clean. We were on the 3rd Floor of the hotel overlooking a side street and although a little noisy it was not that intrusive. I would suggest asking for a room on one of the upper floors to minimise the noise especially if on the Gran Via side of the Hotel. The hotel has a Spa facility and access is included in the room price. All in all an excellent hotel, location, etc. If returning to Madrid we would stay there again.

I liked the "boutique" feel of this hotel, nestled into an old building but with modern conveniences and an "avant-garde" look. I got a decent-sized, comfortable room for a good price. Ten-minute walk to Retiro Park. (Important for me, because I needed a place to run, and the park is wonderful for that!) "Fitness room" is a bit of a misnomer -- there's nothing there but a treadmill and a stationary bike. The spa area is wonderful, and very relaxing. TV was rather small, but I didn't rent the room to watch TV; it was fine for the morning CNN / SkyNews fix. _Free_ wireless Internet access in rooms! Almost unheard of in this class of hotel in Madrid, and a significant benefit. Efficient staff who gladly speak English when needed. Cozy bar and decent breakfast, though of course the prices are high, as usual in Madrid.

The servers in the restaurant did not speak english very well which made ordering room service difficult. Upstairs on roof top very cute set up with tables and bar - but not open bc "too cold" in January. Hotel also lacks a large front reception area for meeting friends but did have a great basement library and internet for guests to use at no charge. If looking to go for New Years Eve - make dinner reservations somewhere - expensive at all restaurants but at least you can eat !
