Das Hotel wurde von uns für einen privaten Wochenendaufenthalt (3 Übernachtungen) in London gewählt. Die Lage ist sehr zentral - das war aber auch schon der einzige Vorteil. Der Service war sehr schlecht. Die Badezimmer für ein Doppelzimmer deutlich so klein. Die Zimmer verfügen über keine Heizung und sind nur mit Klimaanlage ausgestattet. Der Zimmerservice war sehr unzureichend - trotz mehrstündiger (ca. 5 Std.) Abwesenheit tagsüber war das Zimmer nicht gemacht. Der Zimmerservice stand aber bei Rückkehr vor unserem Zimmer - wir baten in einer Stunde wiederzukommen, da wir uns kurz auffrischen und dann das Zimmer wieder verlassen wollten - uns wurde daraufhin mitgeteilt, dass dann kein Service mehr möglich sei, da der Zimmerservice dann Feierabend habe. Für 2 Personen im Doppelzimmer gab es insgesamt 3 Handtücher. Dieses Hotel kann ich nach meinen Erfahrungen nicht empfehlen - nur auf Beschwerden hin wird Mindeststandart (roomservice) geliefert, ein Zimmer mit verfünftigem Bad gab es ebenfalls erst gegen Beschwerde und dann nur ein Dachzimmer (Fenster in Höhe von ca. 1,70 beginnend) etwas anderes hätte uns nur gegen nochmalige Zuzahlung angeboten werden können;

Bewertet von Bill aus Cheyenne am Aug 1, 2009
This place is wonderful. If offers a nicely sized room, with smallish bath - complete though and well supplied - and a small closet. Good bed. The attached restaurant is OK, though very high priced. Right down the street there are other places cheaper, better, & with much better food. GREAT location if you are visiting London to see London. You are a half block from Trafalgar Square. The National Portrait Gallery forms one side of the Square. Saint Martin of the Fields church forms another. It has a great cafeteria & wonderful food service the basement. The nearest pub is Sherlock Holmes Pub right across the street. It features great Sherlock Holmes memorabilia & even better food if you are a fan of those wonderful books or movies. The movies play constantly, BTW. The beer is cold & the prices are A-OK. You are within walking distance of nearly everything too – from Saint Paul’s Cathedral in one direction (20 minutes walk) – or Westminster Abbey in the other direction (15 minutes walk) & the London eye right across the river (10 minutes walk). Every walk in London takes longer than just walking time, because there are so many memorials, statutes, & things to see along the way. You just have to stop & say “I remember reading about that!” Take a photo… I’d recommend this place to anyone who is visiting London to see the sights. You are near an underground station (Charring Cross) to get anywhere in London. No place in London is over a half hour away by Underground. ATMs are all over the place. Great service overall, even if the desk service is a bit ‘cold,’ from what we are used to here in the US. Maids were good and the rooms were clean. The only problem you could have is, the entrance is up four steps, & although there is a handicapped lift available, they simply won’t use it for luggage. So you better be able to carry your luggage up steps. There is a lift in the hotel to get to the various floors.

Very surprised at how nice the hotel was for the price. It is set up for business travelers but worked just fine for me, too. Loved the free internet access at the second floor lobby...used it to check email and print my boarding pass. There is a decent fitness room to use in case you don't get enough exercise walking around town all day. You can see Trafalgar Square from the front of the hotel and it is about halfway between Charing Cross and Embankment tube stations. I would definitely stay here again and recommend it to anyone looking for a central hotel in London. Can't comment on the service because I used self check-in/check-out and didn't use room service (only stayed one night).

The room itself was clean and functional, no bath in our room but was a very good shower. This hotel could not be better situated 25 meters from Trafalger Square and from that point alone it was good value for money. Overall a very good hotel and we will definately be returning

A minor gripe -the duvet was rough and so heavy it kept dragging down off the end of the bed. There was 1 VERY soft pillow each, although additional pillows were available on request. Other than this all was fine. The hotel is 2mins from Charing Cross underground. We were wowed by the foyer - marble, wood panelling in the main parts & fresh flowers in the foyer. There's a traditional wood panelled library with computers, magazines & newspapers(not sure if this was only for Club Quarters visitors - both The Grand and Club Quarters share the hotel, they have separate receptions - & the library said Club Quarters members only, but even though we were staying with The Grand everything was headed "Club Quarters".) A nice touch is the water dispenser next to the lift on each floor with bottles so you can take chilled water and ice chips with you for the day. The hotel is in an excellent position for the theatre, a 5 min walk to Haymarket & Leicester Square & an easy 10min stroll to Buckingham Palace. There is no restaurant at present, but the Obiza bar/restaurant is next door and you can access it from the hotel. You'll also find a Prezzo and a Garfunkels within 20 metres - literally! Room service is available from Obiza, and there are arrangements for you to order from 2 local restaurants, charged to your room bill (with the usual room service surcharge of around £3.) For position and price, I think pretty much you'd be hard pushed to beat it!

We checked in via the automatic terminals and were in our room within 5 minutes of entering the hotel. Apart from some difficulty getting the lift to accept our key card, we found the hotel quiet (despite its close proximity to Trafalgar Square) and also our room spacious,clean very comfortable and had all the facilities I'd expect (eg internet, satellite TV, a microwave and mini bar). Staff were very helpful in helping us locate local places. Breakfast was slightly basic and a little expensive at the attached small bistro. I would definitely come back, I expect I'd go round the corner to one of the local cafes for breakfast though.

The hotel is situated in one of the most central parts of london and just seconds away from the tube station. You have some of the most famous attractions on your doorstep in walking distance. The rooms were modern and comfortable and the bathroom facilities met my high expectations. We were also offered the option of leaving our bags in a safe holding on our day of check out which proved invaluable as carrying your luggage around central london is perhaps not the most fun. The location of the Grand is very convenient -- close to Tube stations, very close to Trafalgar Square and Picadilly Circus, and also within walking distance of Westminster Abbey, Big Ben, Parliament, etc. Can't imagine a better London location. Restaurants are also quite close, with two American diner style restaurants that were good within a block, and a bunch of restaurants nearby in Picadilly Circus. As other people indicated when we were choosing our London hotel, The Grand is a "no-frills" business hotel. The automatic check-in didn't work for us, and the line to do a "regular" check-in at the desk was slow. Extra toiletries are in a closet down the hall from the room and you help yourself. The purified water station on each floor was great, and the lounge area was huge, with comfy sofas/chairs, and internet available. (We brought our laptop, so just used it in our room -- very convenient!) The bed and pillows were VERY comfortable and the room was large. For some reason we were put in a handicap accessible room with low door handle, a contraption in the shower, etc., but it didn't bother us. Our room was somewhat noisy, since we were on street side, but I wear earplugs anyway, so it wasn't a problem! Hotel itself was quiet -- hardly ever saw any other guest or staff, seemed like we were all by ourselves. No breakfast if that's important to you. I would most definitely stay here again!!

The taxi ride from the Eurostar is about 12 GPB and the tube is near if one prefers tube travel. The hotel is "new" and the restaurant is not yet open, but there are many near by and this is not a problem. I have stayed in dozens of hotels in London and this one is a great value as long as one only wants a room and not meeting rooms, pools, restaurants, etc. The room had high celings, crown moldings, small but modern bath room, flat panel TV (not that anyone should want to watch TV in London), and just across the street from the National Gallery, with five nice pubs within a five minute walk. I could see Nelson's Column from my window. Also, one has the option of upgrading to a better room at time of arrival for a small fee, 15 GPB.

You couldn't ask for a better hotel at Tralfagar Square for the price. I've stayed in other hotels before in London and this is by far the best one. The room was what I'd refer to as 'American sized' which means when you opened the door you weren't on the bed and in the bathroom at the same time. It had a great, contemporary, modern decor and the bathroom was a very nice size. The location was perfect. We walked EVERYWHERE from the hotel even from our day at Hyde Park. I will definitely stay here again when I go back to London! The only cons were: 1) the bed was a bit hard and 2) you needed to swipe your key in the elevator to punch the floor and it took MANY swipes...but it's worth it for the security.
