La Locanda di San Martino - Siena

The hotel was very quirky and boutiquey, with lots of hand painted details on the ceilings, walls and doors. It made it feel a bit like a Tuscan villa. The hotel was very clean and the receptionist very helpful. The reception however is only open in the mornings and afternoons for checking in and out, the rest of the time you have access via a door code and key. Breakfast was typical continental. The only down side was that our room was at the front of the hotel and that proved very noise early in the morning as it was on one of the main narrow roads into Siena, so we were woken up by the rumble of delivery lorries.

good clean hotel very convenient for restaurants, sights etc

I like using small hotels, usualy old building conversions and usualy a bit shabby-chic but this place crosses the line and is just a bit shabby. Location is perfect and facilities are satisfactory but it's definitely a two-star pretending to be a three-star. Was a little disappointed. Also, reception desk keeps very odd hours.

Hotel is very clean. Room was spacious. Bathroom was first rate--one of the best we've had. Service is prompt and courteous. Breakfast was very good--especially for Americans.

The Locando San Martino is a small family run guest house, in an extremely old building, just three minutes walk from famous Piazza del Campo. The building is in fantastic condition, and the rooms have a real old-world charm. Breakfast was excellent with lots of choice and freshly made coffee to order. The hotel even had free wi-fi! We had an amazing break in Siena and cannot recommend it highly enough.

Great first impression as you walk down a nice quiet street and get to the grand-looking doors. The rooms (or at least ours) are not quite as posh but still nice - they've gone for a kind of 'distressed' orange finish on the woodwork, cupboards, etc., which didn't quite work for us but it was a nice enough room, bathroom was good, and so on. Location is really good and the only real downsides were that the bed was the usual italian thing of two single mattresses stuck together in a double-bed frame (who thinks that's a good idea?) and that there isn't really a reception - you get your own key to get in and out at night and then there is someone sort of hanging around during the day. In some ways it's quite nice, but if you're looking for 24hr attention then maybe this isn't for you. We didn't really need anything and Siena's too beautiful to want to spend much time in the hotel anyway...

We stayed here for 3 nights Sept 08. The hotel has a great location only a few minutes walk from the main square and all the bars and restuarants. The room was painted in a traditional, charming way but with a modern bathroom. Breakfast was a good buffet. Would definetely recommend and return. I would request a room at the back of the hotel for a better view and a quieter stay as passing traffic on the cobbled streets can be a bit noisy.

very disappointing hotel. The room was like college dorm. Room was not clean or comfortable and street noise was very loud. Of all the hotels we stayed at on our trip to Italy, this was by far the worst. Even by european standards, this would rate as a 1 star property. Skip this one. The loby was pleasant and the location was convenient - but those are the only pleasant parts of this hotel. Did I mention the flea bites?

I made reservation for La Locanda di San Martino but I was sent to Chistro del Carmine immediately. That was a big inconvenience for me as I was rushing to catch the inauguration of my conference. So my review here is actually for Chistro del Carmine. It's a very old (about 400 years old!) covent. The staff was very courteous. For me (I was traveling myself) I did enjoy living in such an historic building. The view from the dining room was great. I had my own terrace which I could use to have a private drink or enjoy the full moon night. This hotel, however, is not fit for people who would have trouble climbing stair (doesn't have an elevator and room was multi-level - very difficult to carry luggage upstairs). The sign outside the hotel was almost invisible (I spent about 30 min trying to find when I returned aroud midnight the very first night). Overall, I enjoyed staying in this hotel.

We were only here for one night, but it was a great one. Just off of Il Campo - the famous plaza. We took a train into Siena, then a short bus ride to the center of town, and about a ten minute walk to the hotel. The staff was very helpful and friendly. The hotel is in excellent condition, breakfast was excellent. 100% recommend.

Hotels.com was a really good resource for our trip to Italy and we chose La Locanda on pictures of the hotel rooms and other people's references. One person said that the scooters will keep you awake at night, but this really wasn't the case. A good clean, well decorated comfortable place to stay in a hectic town.

There is a very long walk to get this facility and many stairs to climb. IF you drive, you will have to park outside the city and walk in. If you park to drop off luggage, just hope that no one is behind you. If you have a car, I would advise that you stay outside of the city and park just outside the city walls. We drove through the city for over an hour trying to find this place. The location is good, however, and the front office staff was very helpful.

Great hotel! Customer service outstanding-We were going to be arriving late so they gave us the code to get in and left our key and door unlocked! Biggest room we stayed in in Italy, beautiful, very clean! Great Location-II Campo is just down the hill from the hotel. Wouldn't think about staying anywhere else!

La Locanda di San Martino was fantastic. The room was extraordinarily clean and warm, the staff spoke clear English in addition to Italian, and the breakfast each morning was outstanding. A great value.

Lovely hotel only five minutes from Il Campo and in the heart of centro storico

I stayed there for two nights and I loved the hotel. The room was so spacious with a great bed, a separate living room and spacious bathroom. The room had such character! The staff was very nice and helpful. Location was also perfect no more than 10' walk from the center.

Hotel well located and quite easy to access by car as soon as you know the entrance is by the Porta Romana not indicated in the map attached to the Hotel website

Plus : Hôtel bien placé. Petit déjeuner copieux et de qualité. Vrai lit double. Prix abordable. Moins : Chambre mal insonorisée (nous entendions tous les bruits de la cuisine, du couloir et de l'entrée bien que nous étions au 1er étage). Equipement de la salle de bain fragile (porte de la douche qui reste dans les mains)

Etter prisen vi betalte hadde vi ventet oss hotellstandard, men det var mer som et gjestgiveri. Enkel standard, fremstod som slitt og gammelt. Fint bad og rent både på bad og rom. Veldig bra beliggenhet i forhold til å nå alle severdighetene i Siena. Begrenset utvalg til frokost.

Très bon hôtel, situé juste à côté de la Piazza del Campo. Réceptionniste très serviable, chambre propre, petit déjeuner copieux (le meilleur de nos vacances). Les chambres bénéficient d'une grande hauteur sous plafond et de grandes fenêtres. Il y avait toutefois des bruits de circulation (scooters) le matin tôt, car nous étions côté rue.

God beliggenhed - parkering dog et stort problem

Malgré le manque de netteté du couvre-lit, des meubles et des murs qui demandent à être rafraîchis, j'y retournerai. L'accueil, simple, est très sympa. La situation par rapport aux centres d'intérêts et au calme est appréciable.

Gångavstånd till alla sevärdheter i Siena. Trevlig och hjälpsam personal. Lite synd att det inte står i beskrivningen att det är bilfritt i innanför murarna och att man måste ha tillstånd för att komma in med bilen. Svårt att hitta till hotellet trots karta.
