Sehr freundliches Personal. Sauberkeit des Bades: eher augenfein als sauber.

We stayed here for three nights last weekend and found it to be a really nice hotel. True the neighbourhoods not exactly fifth avenue and it isn't within walking distance from manhattan but if you don't mind the five minute stroll up to the subway station then it's actually not that much hassle getting into town at all. The fourth floor Queen Double room was way above average and the view from our balcony was a real bonus. As you'd expect from the Americans the service was professional and very friendly. All in all a really nice hotel, although not exactly boutique in not that great a neighbourhood but it's hardly a ghetto which I'd recommend as long as you're aware of this.

Stayed here with my partner for 2 nights in a King room with Balcony. The room was very big and clean. The bathroom was a bit strange as it was open plan and only a frosted door to keep the toilet and shower private. The hotel is based in an industrial area and assured by the hotel it was safe, which we found it to be when walking back from the tube - which is a 10 minute walk away. The rooftop bar is a must with great views of new york! The only down side was when we ordered room service they lost our order and we did not know until 3 hours later when we phoned to chase it, by this time the kitchen was closed and we never got our food :( and went hungry.

von value="10""Hardly a boutique hotel!"
Bewertet von G aus UK am Sep 13, 2009
The hotel was certainly not the boutique style one we were expecting and our first thought was to check straight out. Admittedly the room was very large and the bedlinen was clean but the carpets in the corridor needed a very deep clean. There is a nightclub on the roof terrace which is open to anyone ... it was well managed but the bass beat was rather loud. Very glad we were not on the 5th floor! It is situated in a very run down area of Long Island City and we did not feel safe walking back from the subway. On the plus side - the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The free ride to the subway in the big black cadillac was good. It was only about a 12 dollar taxi fare back from Times Square area so when you add that to the cost of the room it is still a bargain. The views across to Manhatten (ignoring the derelict building and plot in front!) are amazing. If you can afford it, it is probably better to stay in Manhatten, but if you are on a budget and can factor in the cost of taxis back at night then this is a good option.

I paid the additional fee for a "King room with city view." My room was on the 2nd floor directly across from a multi-story, condemned building. The only view I had was of the underbelly of the Queensborough Bridge. They were unable to provide a different room. There were no towels in my room. When I requested them, someone knocked on my door at 12:30 at night to deliver them. There is no internet connection in the rooms. There is only 1 computer in the "internet cafe" where you can log on to the internet for a fee. I am a 45 year old muscular man but I didn't feel safe walking the several blocks to a restaurant nearby. To their credit, they offer a shuttle service to local attractions. Just not the experience I was looking for. When I complained about the various things that went wrong during my stay, it was obvious that the staff was powerless to help and tired of getting these complaints from multiple guests. I would never stay there again!

The hotel was pleasant enough, especially given the reasonable price. The view from my room across the East River to Manhatten was a great bonus. But unless you are bringing your car, or prepared to spend a fortune on taxis the hotel's location is a big drawback. It is a good 15 minute walk from the nearest subway, and the walk takes you through some pretty depressing terrain - cracked pavements, broken glass everwhere, every doorway stinking of urine. I live in London but I felt unsafe, even in the daylight. My sister who lives in Queens said that she had been warned about being in the area after dark. I should point out that nothing unpleasant happened to me, but I left the hotel each day in the morning to head for the city and got back before dusk.

I arrived after a long journey from the UK, and after a bit of waiting was shown to my room. Now, i thought that the 'Queen Deluxe' would be pretty much the best room they had, but i was wrong. Apparently all of the rooms on the lower floor are Queen Deluxe, therefore i had no view (which is awesome by the way) until the roof opened at 4pm. The room itself was great though, very clean and well looked after. I checked out after my one night there and said thanks to the staff and said i'd be coming back in a few days, When i arrived back i was given another room, but this time the same Queen Deluxe but with 2 queen sized beds and a fantastic bathroom. overall was a great place to stay, although it gets a little noisy due to the bar / club upstairs i'd certainly recommend it. Don't go if you are going to stay in your room and relax all night, it's too good to do that! By the way, some travel info. when you get off the E-Line Subway at Queens Plaza, just walk out the Queens Plaza exit and keep going for about 10 mins, (just follow the bridge!) it's on the waterfront.

I read some really bad reviews about the hotel but I still took my chance. It turned out to be pretty good. Some people complained about the isolation of the location, but if you go down on Vernon Blvd, you can find so many nice and chic restaurants, bars, galleries, antique stores... Also, we discovered the long island city water front park at night, I've never seen the manhattan skyline so close and so beautiful even thought I grew up in the city. I think the hotel can definitely advertise these surrounding attractions more! A couple of places to recommend: a bakery/restaurant 5 minutes away, it has metal flower windows, you won't miss it. They have the best prosciutto fig salad ever! and the LIC bar next to the big willow trees, very romantic looking. Masso, an italian restaurant, nice brunch. The hotel itself, what I liked about it 1) very spacious. I got a king superior manhattan view, with this price you get a shoebox in the city. 2) relatively new and modern, with a incredible view 3)surrounding industrial zone - hidden gems like the Foundry (thefoundry.info)

We arrived at the hotel via subway and had to walk for 15 minutes through a very rough neighbourhood. The hotel staff were welcoming and friendly and the room had a great view. We went back into Manhatten but got a cab back again the evening. Add the cost of taxis to your hotel price. The view from the terrace was great - the Manhatten skyline at night - very good. I wouldn't stay here again - definitely better to stay in Manhatten if you have come to see New York City.

When I read some of the negative reviews about the hotel, I was thinking, "oh, there are always people who are hard to please." But upon arriving at the hotel, I found out that most were very accurate. The Ravel is a "nice" hotel, but when it came down to the little details, they fell short. Very short. The biggest issue for us was the cleanliness of the rooms. They are all furnished very nicely, but when you look close, it seems like they don't want to do the extra work to maintain them. the walls had dirt smudges all over them, the baseboards were also extremely dirty. The bathroom was kind of gross too - If you care about having a clean shower, you will be disappointed. the tile and grout were very grungy looking, and it was just gross. I won't mention the fact that the first room that we were put in was marked as "clean" but the garbages were full and smelled like food, and the bathroom was dirty, with wet towels hanging up.

Staff at check-in were nice but did not seem to have complete knowledge of amenities; gym was supposed to be available but when went to use it it was "out of order" (whatever that means). Only one of the two elevators worked and the working one didn't sound too good either; finishes of wall-papering badly done in public areas; broken tiles on the floor near the elevator and the prices of goods in hotel room were outrageous ($5 for a melting snickers). The only positive was that the bedroom was very clean and a decent size, though lacking in some wall decoration as they were big, blank white canvasses.

Taxis do not come to this hotel, but the staff does provide a shuttle service to Manhattan for $25. There is a boarded-up building across the street in view of the balcony, but so also is Queensboro Bridge, which is a rather beautiful very old bridge. A portion of the Chysler Building and Empire State Building can be seen in the distance. The staff of young men was very good. Good for the price perhaps, but you are in walking distance to nothing in this industrial area. The room was clean, but had an odd construction in the bathroom wall seperating the bedroom area. Lohng Island City is adjacent to the north side of Queens, which is north of Brooklyn. Get the idea? I was close to not recommending this hotel. Not for the luxury travelor.

Then to top it off there was no where to park, when we were told that we would have a space in the lot. Once settled into the right room , which was despite the frustration was a nice room, we then had to listen to bumping music all night long from the rooftop bar which was right atop our room, along with people running up and down the hall all night long to the bar. So all in all not a great experience.

I researched for 2 weeks hotels in New York for me(young woman) and my 15 year old nephew's overnight trip in the city. This hotel is in a perfect location, and I will stay there every trip to New York. Service: Excellent, very friendly and resourceful. Location: Although it is in an industrial area, you will not be bothered. The hotel is gated from the surrounding area. They have a shuttle service from the Subway that is very efficient and if you time it just right, you can have the Escalade limo waiting for your when you step off the train. We went back and forth from Times Square, Harlem, and the ride is only like 10 to 15 mins. The view is captivating, you will be there before you know it. Room: the biggest you will find in New York City area. OMG, the seperate bath and shower enclosed with frosted glass sliding doors. VERY NICE! To top it all off, the rooftop lounge will take your breath away. You won't find a better deal in NYC. If you want clean rooms, inexpensive prices and convenience, stay at the hotel.

Taking in to consideration that this is a developing neighborhood, transitioning from industrial to business, possibly residential. It is like many neighborhoods all over NYC and I found this Hotel to be a GREAT FIND! You have to do some walking, but nothing out of the ordinary for NYC. The views of the East River, Queensboro Bridge, Roosevelt Island and Manhattan are worth it. If you don't like those things, the staff is very pleasant, courteous, accomodating and helpful with dining recommendations. This staff was far better than those I have encountered at the so-called Luxury Hotels, they are first rate. The room I had could have used a dresser, but it was no big deal. When you reserve a room and you want a bath tub you should specify,(my room had a shower only, but a nice large one). I enjoyed my stay and my girl friend cannot wait till we go back to the Ravel.
