Located in the centre of medieval Ghent, Monasterium PoortAckere is a serene hotel housed in a former nunnery. Built in a neo-gothic style the property dates back to 1278. The 45 guestrooms are located in three separate buildings and are furnished in natural tones with simple wood furniture. While respecting the building's history and neo gothic architecture, rooms offer the comfort of modern amenities including cable television, direct-dial phones, Internet access and coffee and tea making facilities. Private bathrooms have hairdryers, bathrobes and complimentary toiletries.
Guests can explore the former monastery and absorb its tranquil atmosphere, or relax with a coffee and newspaper in the enclosed garden. The chapter house is also open for evening meals on Fridays and Saturdays when guests can enjoy a menu of typical Belgian dishes beneath the beautiful neo-gothic arches. Multilingual staff on the 24-hour front desk can arrange airport transport and lock valuables in the hotel safe-deposit box. The hotel has several conference rooms available to suit business guests and small groups, and secure parking is available for around 5 EUR per day. Ghent's attractions are within easy walking distance from the hotel, including Pont St Michel, a bridge which offers stunning views of the old town (300 metres). The medieval houses of the Quai aux Herbes is 350 metres away, and the restored medieval castle, Château des Comtes de Flandre, is 600 metres. Brussels Airport is 65 kilometres (40 miles) from the hotel, around 60 minutes by car.

Anfahrt

At the airport, the railway station can be found on the basement level below the terminal building. Airport City Express trains to the city depart every 10-30 minutes to Brussels' three main stations. Trains run on to St- Pieters station, and from here tram numbers 21 and 22 stop at Oude Houtlei. Hotel staff can arrange transport to/from the airport, and taxis are also available outside the terminal. Ghent city centre is easily explored on foot or by bicycle, available to hire at the hotel.
When driving from the airport, follow the yellow signs for 'Parkeerroute Gravensteen/Sint-Michiels'. Take the exit 'Gent Centrum' and proceed to the crossing. Continue straight ahead until the Zuidparklaan. At the end turn right into Zuidstarionstraat. Drive around the Sint Anna plein and turn into Keizer Karelstraat. Continue straight ahead for as long as possible. At the end turn left onto Grauwpooort - Lange Steenstraat. Continue along the street and at the end turn right into Burgstraat. Follow to the end and turn left onto Pelikaanstraat. Turn left at the crossing into Hoogstraat. Oude Houtlei is the last street on the right, and Monasterium PoortAckere is halfway along on the right.

Ein etwas anderes Hotel

Die Bootsfahrten sind oft sehr kurz, wenn der Wasserstand hoch ist und die Boote nicht unter die Brücken passen. Dann keine Innenstadtfahrt wählen. Toll und auch für Familien ein Hit sind Nachtspaziergänge vom Hotel aus durch das beleuchtete Brüssel.
