Location. The elegant Grand Hotel National overlooks the lake in Lucerne, Switzerland. The city's picturesque Old Town and Chapel Bridge are 500 metres away.
Hotel Features. Opened in the 1870's by renowned hoteliers Auguste Escoffier and Cesar Ritz, the Grand Hotel National is a perfect example of Swiss old- world glamour. Richly decorated in Fin de Siecle style, the Grand Hotel National combines traditional decor with modern facilities.

Gourmet French and Swiss cuisine and an extensive wine list are on offer in Le Trianon restaurant. The room is lit by a chandelier and decorated in pastel shades with silk wallpaper. Traditional Italian cuisine and regional specialities are on the menu in the airy plant-lined Padrino restaurant. In summer, dinner is served on the pretty terrace with lake views. The Grand Hotel National's Thai Lotus restaurant is an exotic setting for Thai curries, salads and soups. It features its own Thai temple, Asian greenery and rich decor. Guests can enjoy views of the lake and the Alps from the comfortable leather armchairs in the wood-panelled National bar.

The Grand Hotel National offers six meeting and conference rooms including a ballroom, business centre and complimentary Internet access in public areas.

The hotel has a well-equipped spa with sunlit indoor pool, sauna and sunbed. Guests receive discounted entrance to the Wellness Centre opposite the hotel, with fitness room, massage pool and beauty treatments.

Guestrooms. Decorated in an opulent Fin de Siecle style, the 41 guestrooms feature elegant silk wallpaper, upholstered furniture and Italian marble floors. All rooms offer satellite television, wireless Internet access (surcharge), safes and minibars. Private bathrooms have bath/shower combinations and complimentary toiletries.

Anfahrt

From Zurich Airport (ZRH):
Distance to the Grand Hotel National is 60 kilometres, approximately 60 minutes' drive.

Getting there. The airport's Swiss Federal Railways Station is located beneath terminal B. S2 and S16 trains run every 10 minutes to Zurich city centre at peak times. The journey time is about 10 minutes and single tickets cost 5.80 CHF. Trains run to many destinations throughout Switzerland, including Geneva, Berne, and Lucerne. The Grand Hotel National is located in the centre of Lucerne, on the lake. Taxis wait outside arrivals, and cost approximately 50 CHF (35 EUR) to the city centre. There is a bus terminal next to car park B, with 11 bus lines running to towns and villages across the region. Prices are all subject to change.

Getting around. The lake area and the Old Town, just opposite the train station are best explored on foot, but some of the best views of Lucerne and the surrounding area can be seen from a boat.

Driving directions. From Zurich Airport:
Take the A2 towards Gotthard.
Take the Luzern Zentrum exit and follow signs to Bahnhof and then Kussnacht/Weggisfter.
Cross the bridge over the lake.
The hotel will be on your right-hand side.
